Alice Tordoff | 9 comments So i remember this picture book about a Dragon who is hired as a waitress and given a trial. During her trial a family known as the grumbles come in. They complain about everything but the dragon is able to satisfy their requests.

I don't remember the name or author at all. Does anyone else remember this or did i have a fever dream

Kerrie’s Bookish Coven I’ve been looking for an hour and I can’t find anything, sorry!

They were all animals. I think the Grumbles were hippos or something similar.

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments Can you describe the pictures? Were they cartoony, full page, colorful, etc?
Part of a series?

Mai | 1280 comments Storytime For 4 Year Olds by Joan Stimson came up in a search and the summary mentions Dilys, a dragon waitress. Searching "Grumbles" inside the book on Google books gives 6 results so hopefully this is it!

message 7: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 28705 comments I think Mai's gotten it. Further searching reveals that the story is called "Just the Job for a Dragon" and can also be found in Animal Storytime and My Big Ladybird Book of Stories and Rhymes. In My Big Book of Stories and Rhymes, the dragon's name is Debbie, not Dilys, and the title is "The Right Job for a Dragon."

You need to be a member to borrow books, but membership is free; you only need to give them an email address.

Thank you! This is the version I remember best with the art style

I was wrong about the grumbles being Hippos, they appear to be lizards or dinosaurs of some kind. At least in the Animal Storytime version.
