Review:
I really enjoyed this story. This takes place in 2437. 400 years in the future and the women are in charge. I was drawn into to how the world was operating. There were the Northlands which was formerly Alaska and Canada and then the Motherland which was the former US.
I really liked the idea of the two different societies. The Motherland was peaceful and the Northlands was rugged. I could see how in the future our world could come to be like this world presented.
Writing well done and characters are well formed and I can see why there lots of books in the series. Many story lines to be fleshed out and cant wait to read the next one.

I started my Alternate Reality book on Thursday, just to see if it would "take" and it did, but now I'm back to finishing up my Free Space read. Hope to be done it tomorrow. It has dragons!

Ohhhh.... Dresden, I should reread the whole series and then get to the last few new books actually. Thanks for reminding me and enjoy!!!! (loooooooooooooooooooove Dresden!!!)

Had a few reads last bingo where I needed to switch out halfway cause I just couldn't finish it :(

From the first book straight to the second and again... I couldn't put it down! Such a great series!
Worldbuilding:
Hosting the peace summit for Nexus, yeah, why not, you might ask? Wellllllll, I'm sure Dina will have something to say about that now :D But apart from that, we've come to know more about the universe and the major players inside it. We learned more about Gertrude Hunt and her capabilities. As always, the scenes were very well written with enough details to ensure complete immersion.
Character development:
Dina has changed a lot since the start of the series, and we're only the second book in! What I like about her is that she stays true to herself even when shit hits the fan. The mission in this instalment isn't easy; keeping the peace during the negotiations seems an impossible task, but luckily, she's not alone because.... queue Orro (a disgraced chef) who is omg amazing! I laughed, I facepalmed, and I wanted to strangle him, often at the same time. A sign of a great character ;)
Arland appeared as well, as the representative of the Vampires, trying to woo Dina in some sort of way. Unfortunately for us all, and much to Dina's sorrow, Sean hasn't returned yet from the favour he owed :(
We met several new characters, and I hope we get to see more of them along the way as they left a lasting impression.
Pacing and flow:
It started with a bang (aka a secret, not even Dina knows), and it just doesn't stop from there. Outstanding balance between all the action and quite a lot of conversation to keep the story moving forward smoothly. I read this one in one go as well (seriously, I'm not sleeping anymore, it seems lol). I just needed to know how things would end!
The book:
The book was well written with no (noticeable) errors. There is no sex described (if that is important to you).
It has 237 pages, spread over 17 chapters and is told from Dina's point of view.
Final thoughts:
A lot happened in this book, all while staying in one location. We met many new characters and learned a lot. I look forward to what the rest of the series will bring!

Adding to my TBR, sounds great the way you describe it. Reading the blurb though makes it sound ridiculous. :D I'll go with your thoughts.

Oh and I checked out the books yesterday, apparently I didn't have the last two and they were dirt cheap (like seriously) so I picked them up right away! :D They are now on my reading list for this year... so many books, so little time :D

Review: I liked it, didn't love it. The wink, wink, nudge, nudge, tongue in cheek, oh so cute family situations and casual incest didn't really work for me. The background, the story and the characters themselves were great, but there were too many quick change story breaks and pronouns and it sometimes took me a minute to catch up. I'll read the next book but it's not going to the top of my TBR mountain.
My alternate reality book is very interesting. I wish I had more time to read, but I will be caught up before shelf call. It is snowing here, again. Which at least means it has warmed up a bit. What are you both doing this lovely Tuesday?
We haven't had any snow yet. I'm kind of waiting for it, but I'm guessing we're out of luck; it's just too mild outside :( So far been doing work, but I will read a bit before going to bed though (22h30 here at the moment), reading some paranormal romance cause I live vicariously through my characters :D :D
A question for you all (one I pretty much ask everyone I meet and who is a reader): what is the one book that in your opinion everyone should have read, as in, what is your absolute favourite? (any genre).
I've found so many new great reads this way :D
Just finished coffee break and I have about 30-40 minutes of reading left on my book. Since I'm going home around 4 and shelf call is around 5, I should be finished right around the time to pick a new book. Didn't want you to think I was flaking. :DI don't have favourite books and my favourite genres change constantly, but the book that is closest to my heart is
. I received it for Christmas when I was 6 and I reread it almost every year. I'm not a crier, but there's one part of the book that makes me sob like a baby. Even thinking about it can make me cry. I have lots of other childhood favourites, but Anne is special. And honestly if people tell me they hate it, I can't talk to them. And if they are indifferent, it just makes me sad. So I guess it is my favourite.

Review: I think I would have enjoyed this book more if I had not known it was Robin McKinley. It was jarring to me. This is not the Robin McKinley of The Blue Sword, one of my favourite books. Anyway, the story was different. Interesting world, interesting heroine, evil, non-sparkly vampires. All good things, just weird.

For some reason I just can't get past this book, I read 1/3 and then I'm putting it aside... but not this time, I need to finish this damn series! (I really did enjoy the previous books though, and looove the author, so no clue why this book is being so difficult :( )

I really enjoy reading UF and especially when it is done well. This time Harry is confronted with some grisly murder scenes and along with Murphy try to figure out who is doing all the killing. This had werewolves and they were super duper werewolves. There was a loup garou and then the Hexenwolves who both seemed to have super strength and killing abilities. There was political power and corruption in the police/FBI. A very enjoyable read.

Thanks for the review Rosina!I will request the stamp for our second shelf (yay) :D
Have a wonderful weekend!
I'm probably the last person on the planet to read Darkfever so can I just ask, does the MC ever get less annoying. I truly don't care that her nails are pink and that they match her bra but I just don't need to hear it every other page....
Allison Ann wrote: "I'm probably the last person on the planet to read Darkfever so can I just ask, does the MC ever get less annoying. I truly don't care that her nails are pink and that they match her..."Allison, I've only read the first 6 pages.....it was enough for me :)
I've read the first book, and I have to admit I really struggled to see what all the hype was about, didn't really like it either :(
Good to know. I finished it last night and I'm taking the series off my list now. I thought it was universally loved, so I'm interested to see how many people were as annoyed as I. Terrible.

Review: Really, really not for me. I can't read books where I hate the characters and I hated the MC and wasn't too fond of the other people involved either. There wasn't a single page of this book without a comment about how girly, pretty, pink, spoiled, young, indolent, silly, etc. she was and I have no interest in following her journey. I hope she grows up but I don't think it will be enough or fast enough for me.

Review: I selected this book because of the location. i like stories where NOLA is the main setting. This was a NTMA and I did enjoy the writing. The story was about Elle and Lord. She is a rich girl who is rebelling against her stepfather. Lord owns a pawn shop. It was an insta love and a hop in the bed with a hot tatted bad boy. There was a mystery surronding 3 murders.
Sorry ladies, I've had a super busy week so far so hadn't had the time to file everything. I'm all caught up now though... yay for our second stamp!! :DI'm a tad behind on my reading, but hope to have the book (and maybe the new call) done this week!

Review: An interesting world of magic, with fun situations and characters. Even the romance is cute, at least I like both Katie and Owen and that so rarely happens in these types of books. I like to think that I would deal well in a magical world, but I suspect I might be very mundane. At least I'm always on the side of the person with no magic. I feel for Katie's dad and find her mother exhausting. I hope she stays in Texas, where apparently magic goes to die. :D
