Sensitive (for lack of better word) to certain topics? Unsure of whether to read a book or not because of it? This is a safe place to ask your questions!

Please be considerate and kind to everyone's different opinions. We are all unique in different in some way, and that's what makes us interesting. If people start to mistreat others and use this thread for the wrong reasons, I WILL take it down and/or block you. However, I think that we've got a good, solid group that respects one another.
I don't think I'll have to worry about that :)

I've been wanting to read "The Hate U Give" for a while now but am unsure if I will be able to handle it. Can I have some advice?

message 4: by Amaya (new)

Amaya Thomas | 63 comments Hey Annika! I have read The Hate U Give and a main trigger warning is gang violence. It is a little heavy at times due to the MC's poverty, but it isn't that bad.

So it took me a while to push though this and I knew I wasn't going to like this because of the characters. Jamie is nothing but your typically player and treats Autumn like an asshole, Autumn is no better and can't make up her damn mind who she wants to be with. The whole book it's back and fourth of I wish him, I wish that... etc. Jamie always got mad when Finny tried to flirt with Autumn but he literally had sex the night before prom with another chick and expects Autumn to be okay with this. Autumn also has no backbone and will not stick up for herself.

If you haven't read this book you need to! This is one of my favorites! Bree had moved from her hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio after her dad had been murdered and was looking for a fresh place to start. Bree will never forget the day it happened and will remember that for a while. Well she moved to Pelion, Maine and bought a nice little cottage home but needed to get situated and find a job soon. She didn't move to find relationships either but she finds Archer Hale really good looking and she can't help herself.

The ending was totally not what I was expecting this to be. Mary Jane really took the ending in her hands and Millie was not the brightest in this book I will say, Enzo ended up coming back but I was disappointed because the book didn't hit off where book 1 left off. But this book had wwwwwwwaaaaaayy more twists and turns than Book 1.

Eddie and his friends had a secret chalk code they used to communicate and all of these kids had a secret meeting spot in the woods but as you read the book there is also a group that bullies others and forces them to do things that are just totally inappropriate and in my personal opinion- young teens should NOT read this.... It was pretty bad.
