What to say about this book...I really wanted to give it at least 4 stars. But the book started so slow for me. There at least 4 different plots happening in this book and I didn't know which way was up at times. We have the werewolf plot (again), Evangeline the witch plot, the vampire parlay plot, and Ricky Bo plot. That's not even including some subplots! Once this one picked around the half way point, it went really quick. But Faith Hunter is such a dense writer, some descriptions (like every time Jane shifted to Beast) I didn't need every single time.
This series also piques my interest because I'm really interested the world that is built but the day to day actions of Jane and crew do not give me energy. They actually drain me because Jane and her personal guilt and the guilt others place on her... it's like borderline beating her up and her playing victim. And for her to be a badass, it's starting to piss me off because I guess I'm comparing how Kate Daniel's handles her guilt without being dumb about it. Like Jane blames herself for EVERYTHING! I mean literally things that she has absolutely no control over she takes on her shoulders as her fault. It's kind of annoying and comes off a little whiny like someone who needs a lot of attention. Anyways, I'm going to continue the series but man Jane is started to drive me nuts. I hope something changes in the next book otherwise I might give this one up.

I discovered this series last year. Characters from fables, fairy tales, nursery rhymes, literature have crossed over into the here and now due to a spell gone wrong by Cinderella's fairy godmother. The Third book features Nicky "Little Boy" Blue and Beatrice Muffet. Trish has long had unrequited feelings for Nicky. Nicky was married to Juliet (from Romeo and Juliet, either Romeo didn't cross over or their relationship couldn't survive the change). Juliet was a casualty of the events in book one. Now Nicky's back in town, he also had feelings for Trish though he felt she deserved someone better than him. Both are trying to find Dracula. I love how the Author reimagined how the different tales jor the here and now.

Review:
I'm already a casual fan of Alexandra Ivy's first series so I was happy to see another series pop up from her. I really liked the cover and the blurb is what really got me to read the book.
So going in, I had high hopes. Not all of those hopes were met because the hero came off as such an overbearing , trigger happy cop that pulled his gun at the slightest sound. He was overly aggressive and treated the heroine as if she were a delicate flower to the point that she couldn't do anything for herself and he annoyed the crap out of me.
Other than that, I enjoyed the story and the world that is set up in this story. I think I'll read more but no time soon.

This book (and any book by Gail Carriger really) is super fun. There are always so many great names and gadgets and, just things (werewolves who tied their top hats on so they keep them in wolf form, mechanical dogs named Bumpersnoot, schools for budding evil geniuses) that I always read them with a smile on my face. This one was a little tougher for me, it concentrated a bit too much on the love triangle with Sophronia, Felix & Soap. (view spoiler). While the scenes and set pieces were fun as normal I felt like the plot kind of meandered. The driving force seemed to be the issues with the werewolves but that kind of just petered out as the book moved along. If all the individual scenes weren't so amusing this would have been pretty easy to put down and not feel like you had to pick it right back up. If you enjoyed other Gail Carriger books, you know what you'll find here and most likely will enjoy it. But this wouldn't be the book I'd hand to someone to try to make them a fan.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

This book starts off with Detective Kera Watson sustaining a mortal injury but getting a chance at a new life as an immortal Viking. She gets introduced to her new battle crew, known as the Crows. It was sort of a sisterhood/brotherhood, but they were chosen to serve Allfather Odin. There are Nine Clans, with the Ravens and The Crows headlining this plot.
The Crow women are very rowdy, raunchy and boisterous. They relish their roles are harbingers of death. They also believe in "rehab"! Kera had some adjustment issues when she landed in the Bird House with the Crows, but when she met Ludvig “Vig” Rundstrom; she got a new incentive to immerse herself into her new life. Kera fought Vig and the Crows as she was just resistant to her new lifestyle. But Vig felt that Kera would be worth the effort, so he pursued her relentlessly. Vig was from Clan Raven, and he was the one who saved Kera when she was mortally wounded at the coffee shop. He has had a crush on Kera, and now he has helped initiate her into a new life. Kera is used to just being with her dog Brodie Hawaii, so having to work with others is a challenge.
In this way, Kera reminded me of Lone Ranger being asked to join a Special Forces team. It just wasn't working. But those Crows were funny. I think the humor help smooth the edges as the book 1 was a bit rough. While I have to admit that most of this authors humor was Lost in Translation for me, I found the Crows entertaining.
I think now that the foundation has been laid, the subsequent books will be better. The world building made the book dense and so it took me a while to get into the story. I do look forward to the next book now.
Acheron is really emotionally draining and uplifting. The first half is was hard for me to read because he just kept having bad things thrown at him. But it made it all the more better when he got an HEA.

It's basically two stories: the 11,000 years leading up to the present and then the present.
Ezi, it might have been better to read
first, which is the same world as
but totally different characters as its set in Jersey. The Jersey Crows are hilarious and there is no jarring with the MC not being a newbie.

This was a different take on vampires and a UF hero and I liked it very much. I've grown weary of all the uber "alphas" populating romance and even UF lately (and don't get me started on how the "alphas" are really petulant, whiny children with anger management issues) so I fell totally in love with Fort. Yes, he's a bit of a pushover in the beginning. He's the offspring of a vampire who is trying to hold on to his humanity. He's extremely non-confrontational. But he does have a backbone, honor and a heart of gold and will do what he has to when it counts.
I also loved Suzume. A kitsune (fox-shifter) who never lets Fort, or the reader, forget that, as she states, she a fox who can become a woman not a woman who can become a fox. In fact, it's a big of a gender swap. She's hired by Fort's mom to be his bodyguard with a new unknown vampire in town. And she comes to his air more than once. She's also the wildcard, the one with the temper and the mouth, and she pushes Fort's buttons. In the end though, he's the one that stands his ground to do the right thing lest you think he's a total wimp.
This is an excellent set up for a new series. There are hints at other races and a bigger picture but the plot for this one stays fairly tight on the vampires and Fort's family. I was just saying the other day that I think it's time for vampires to get scary again. And while I'd never classify this as horror, the vampires here are decidedly more unnerving than sexy & cuddly. This is definitely a series I'll be looking forward to more of.

The Dragon Conspiracy by Lisa Shearin ★★★★★
Mackenna is not the usual UF - heroine, like Kate or Mercy.Mac is not the butt-kicking type. it's her ability to see past illusions, that makes her valuable to the SPI. Her partner Ian is more or less her bodyguard, since seers are so rare and tend not to live long at SPI. Ian is former military and cop, nothing supernatural at all about him. In this book the pair are tasked with keeping a group of very rare diamonds safe while they are on display in a museum. The diamonds are known as the dragon's eggs and they happen to belong to a very nasty Russian Dragon. The diamonds are stolen and the only clues they have are Harpies and a young man who finds out quiet spectacularly that he's a gem mage. I really liked the characters and I'm looking forward to the next book.

Well, Twisties have been around since the 1930's and are found, sometimes with different names in New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, other Asian countries & surprisingly Malta. According to Wiki :)And yes those comparison utubes are hilarious. I've seen a couple on names for things like sidewalk & footpath, boot & trunk etc. And pronunciation ones are great as well.
I remember those Pop Rocks ones, though they were called something else here. Love the reaction to Vegemite, though I wouldn't use a spoon to eat it either. Goes great on melty butter toast though. Yummmm
I love Shapes, they come in about 10 different flavors and at the moment my fav is caramelized onion. But I've never been a fan of chicken flavored chips, I'd go for Salt & Vinegar :D
Those pics of Fritos are too regular for twisties, the fritos look machine made, whereas twisties are more free form and yellow. They don't actually have twists like those ones at all. They just go off at odd angles. It was hard to find a pic of twisties, that's why I put up the pack.
