I'll my review in a few minutes.

Nalini Singh

I loved this book. Mercy and Riley were amazing together! AMAZING.
The sex was pretty hot in this book. You could really feel the chemistry between Mercy and Riley but it wasn't overwhelming to the point where I'm ready to start skipping passages and get to the story.
Nalini Singh is a master story teller. She is seriously a beast at weaving a story arc that is ever evolving, growing, going deeper into the world that she has created in this series. And I love that so far, she hasn't fallen into the pit of authors that worldbuild to the point of things being unbelievable even for a sci fi/paranormal romance. I look at it this way: I walk into the world that you've created in your book. There are parameters that you set as the creator as I can imagine and can't imagine. So even in fantasy. PNR, whatever - I have to be able to believe that what you write is possible to achieve in the world you've created.
Nalini Singh wins with this. The way she writes conflict, the way she incorporates her side stories and characters - which I loved - usually I HATE a million characters but these all served to contribute to building the world and not just being filler or comic relief, just everything came together to make this a great book.
I don't know why I took such a long break from the series. I am definitely reading the next one soon!

Unleashed by Sara Humphreys 31 Mar 2015 ★★★★
I enjoyed this book. I don't have a problem with the destine mates trope. The Amoveo are shape-shifters, who connect with their destined mate in dreams. And until Samantha's father, they never mated with a human -- it was something that was supposedly impossible. Samantha's parents died when she was a baby and she never knew she wasn't entirely human. There is an old human family, that has made it their mission to destroy the Amoveo, they know about Samantha. But before she got involved with Malcolm and started showing signs of her Amoveo side, she was not a target.

This was a fun start to this series. I enjoyed Rio & Luke as individuals and their growing relationship. The story takes place in Bordertown, and area in Manhattan where fae, demons, humans and other races live and work. I really liked the world building here. Although there will always be a place in my heart for your basic vampire story I'm really liking the new trend of having a lot of different supernatural races share space. I can't get into too much without spoilers but the end of this book really sets up the series to continue to explore the differences and politics of the region.
As a couple Rio and Luke are fun. There's some good banter and only a couple of instances of "why don't you just tell him/her". The secondary characters round out their personalities, especially for Rio as she's more outgoing and makes friends more easily. Add in an awesome pet "more than an fox" and I'm sold. While I enjoyed this enough to wish I had read it sooner, I'm also glad I waiting since book 2 is just coming out soon now.

Book: Kodiak's Claim
Finished: 4/8
Rating & Review: ★★★.
Tammy is an insurance adjuster sent to Alaska to investigate claims submitted by Beark Enterprise. The CEO Reid Carver suspects that someone is trying to take over his Kodiak clan by stealing his transports, but the insurance company wants to insure his claims are not fraudulent.
Tammy is a sassy gal, who had an impromptu barbecue using her ex-boyfriend’s belonging when she found him in bed with one of friends. When she finally meets the Kodiak bear shifter’s alpha, Reid, sparks flew. As Tammy and Reid tried to figure out what was going on with his transports, Tammy never let Reid run roughshod over her. She gave as good as she got and quickly found herself nicknamed “City Girl”. When Tammy got kidnapped by the bad guys, Reid was forced to face his feeling for Tammy and figure out what that means for him and the Kodiak clan.
Honestly, the narration was not good. It’s not the worst, but it made the book slow and the monotone narration made the story slow. It was an okay beginning to a series but it wasn’t so engaging that I had to read the sequel immediately. I have read shifter books that were so engrossing that had quickly got the subsequent books. This book was average, but I will eventually read book 2.

Rating & Review: ★. I really hated this book. I guess I could give it a ★★ because I liked the narrator. Samantha Kingston was part of that Mean girl clique at her high school and she was such a little brat. She was the sort who wanted to lose her virginity so she's not the last in her crew who was a virgin. I saw so many great reviews on this one, I don't get it. It felt like nails on a chalk board.

good catch.

I had my days all mixed up!

This is my first foray into MMA/Street Fighter sub genre of romance and my first time reading anything by Roxie Rivera. I picked up In Kelly's Corner from recommendations that I saw on Amazon and was so happy to have gotten it for free because I'm all about saving the dollars! It was an enjoyable read and I'll be looking out for the other books in the series.
Let's start with the hero since this is my review and I can start wherever I like :P haha
I liked Kelly well enough. He is an alpha male who is initially fighting his attraction to the younger sister of his best friend who died in action. And it takes some level of danger for him to be like eff it, I'm going to get this woman. He seemed pretty hot in that "I can kill you" kind of way haha.
I also liked our heroine Bee. She had a few TSTL moments, like announcing that you can cover a $500,000 debt with no sweat off your back in front of mobsters. Other than not having common sense, it was nice reading about a tech geek heroine who was making strides in the industry. She also was a virginal heroine and TBH it probably would have been a problem if I'd read bunch of virginal heroine books back to back but it worked out this time. Roxy caught me at a good time.
This one's for you Bee:

Other than that the plot was pretty straight forward, fairly predictable. Nice, light read.

I'll update tomorrow with my other team challenge book so that will be one less book to read for next week :)

good catch."
i looked at the listing again. and Along Came a Spider is 200+ pges. so no change.

After the incredible badass ending of Fair Game (which I think I read over about 10 times in a row with my jaw unhinged I was so stunned) it was probably a little unfair to think this book could live up to it. I pre-ordered anyway but then some things I saw in reviews made me put it off. While I enjoyed it (I'm giving it 4 stars) it's far from a favorite in the Mercy/A&O world.
What's good? As always Briggs does such a good job making the fae and the werewolves in this world so not human, for lack of a better term. These are the old school unsanitized fae, beautiful, whimsical, dangerous and deadly in turn. And so very inhuman. The mystery the Charles and Anna get involved in is compelling and the stakes are high. I also enjoyed Chelsea and Kage and their kids. Her storyline is one that I wish we spent a little more time on.
So what's the problem? The horse info dumping. I get it, they were going to look at horses. But there was probably 20-30 pages (in a 300 page book) about various horse breeds and their history. It seemed like every time I got really sucked into the mystery or family drama, bam, let's go look at horses. I've nothing against horses and as an animal lover they can certainly add to the plot. But I don't need to know what measurements make a horse valuable. When we got to some of the horse personalities, that was better for me and made it bearable. Issue # 2 - another jealous ex? Really? This one wasn't as bad as the last Mercy book but outside of the heroines there are precious few female characters in these books. Do they always having to be fighting over a man?
So, while annoying stuff was annoying, page-wise it was not a majority of the book. The main plot thread of the mystery, how the fae are potentially maneuvering and Chelsea's story were enough for me to really enjoy the book.

(Dirk and Steele #6) Soul Song by Marjorie M. Liu 9 Apr 15 ★★★
I've enjoyed this series very much so far. The main character in this book had only a slight connection to Dirk and Steele agency. Kitala is a good friend of Dela Reese (Tiger eye). Several of the shapeshifters do show up -after kit calls Dela, but their part in this story is small. Kit can see how a person will die, but not when, so she's lead a solitary life. she's musically gifted. and one evening she sees how a young woman in the audience will be killed. Kit feels bad about the fact that she's powerless to help the people she sees. But after the concert she sees the same woman again and decides to approach her. ln the middle of the conversation with the young woman and her uncle, he is shot. Kit and Alice flee. Eventually both are caught. Their pursuers want Alice alive. But Kit is another matter: a lose end that has to be eliminated. M'cal, shows up and rescues Kit, even though he's been ordered to kill her by the woman who controls him. Kit is determined to find Alice. And M'cal decides to help.

Karen,
I felt the same way. Why so much info about horses? It was sooo little of Charles and Anna just on their own. In fact, so little of the Marrok. I wanted more of the couple and less about horses
