R11: Team #12 ~ Twisted Twelfth ~

Book: Reckoning by S.J. Harper
Finished: 3/15
Rating & Review: ★★★.
This book was similar to book one but with a little more time spent on Emma's personal life.
First of all, I don't enjoy the mythology tie-in as the goddess Demeter seems cruel and unforgiving. She punished Emma and 2 other sirens for allowing Persephone to get captured but there doesn't seem to be an end to the punishment. Emma has been atoning for her mistake for a century but nothing seems to cool the goddess ire.
Emma and Zack are investigating a case where young girls are going missing from a prestigious high school and they can't seem to find any clues to the whereabouts of the missing teens. Emma and Zack's chief has a niece who attends that school and suspicion was cast her way by one of the parents. Considering the fact that there is no ransom note, the disappearance looks personal and the chief needs his top detectives to clear his niece's name. Will they be able to find the culprit and the girls alive?
In addition, Kallistos wants Emma to commit to him and move in to his place but Emma still pins for Zack. Should she give up on her hearts desire and go for the relationship the goddess would let her have? Emma is torn and has to make a very painful decision.
I hate the Emma, Kallistos & Zach thing. I don't even think it's a true triangle because one is love and the other is a friends with benefit situation. So it's clear what her heart desires. What I want to know is how this siren will deal with the goddess and her punishment. Emma needs to gain some kind of control back or she will be under Demeter's thumb forever.

We are 2 of 4 on Week 4, let's finish out our books in the next couple of days.
Did you all have a good weekend? I was on Spring Break with my kids and I am exhausted. This weekend i am looking forward to Insurgent--as DaniBoss knows, I have a crush on Four "Tobias Eaton" and the movie looks good!
I also look forward to buying the Annie movie for my kids tomorrow. They loved it so I can't wait for them to have it at home.

Oh man!! Well then I need to start reading Alpha and Omega to fill the void. I read the first one a few years back, didn't really like it but I think it's cause I didn't read the novella. So I read the novella last year I think and now things make sense. I think I'm going to do a re-read of the first full length book and start fresh with the series.
Also I'm almost done with my book! Will post some time tonight! I'm doing phone interviews all day which would be some prime reading time while I'm working but alas they think I'm supposed to work and THEN read. Go figure!

Review:
What to say about this book... I was really enthusiastic for the story as it unfolded. I was really interested in seeing where this story was going. It has quite a few story lines, a lot of new characters, and so much crap that I didn't understand why Jane was charged with figuring it all out as someone who is a contractor.
I'm left with quite a few questions and a sense of wanted more from this story. There was no great aha! moment for me where everything came together and made sense. There was a really convoluted plot associated with weres, Rick, the vampires, unknown creatures, multiple murders... I didn't know which way was up by the end.
There is a lot of potential for this series but I'm still not pulled in or compelled to read the next book immediately after each one. I might try a series BR to make me read and perhaps I'll grow to love this one but right it's missing the mark for me and I'm not sure.

Book: True (New Species, #12) by Laurann Dohner
Finished: 3/18
Rating & Review: ★★★.
Jeanie Shiver was a lab technician working for Cornas, one of the new Species testing labs that spring up after Mercile Industries was shut down. When Jeanie got the job, she was unaware of the true nature of Cornas experiments, but once she found out, she went for help.
Jeanie sent information to NSO and eventually led them to rescue the New Species at Cornas, specificially her crush 710.
Now on the outside, 710 chose the name True but he wasn't sure where Jeanie's loyalties truly lay. In fact, the federal government was investigating Jeanie's claims because there was a money trail suggesting she was in this for the money and not because she was a good person against mistreatment of New Species.
Can Jeanie convince the man she has grown to care about as well as keep herself out of jail?
I liked this one as it was my first New Species on Audio. I also know what to expect from this series by now. It is a nice enjoyable read and it continues to be a look at society's issue with accepting those who are different from the "norm". What I liked about this one was even though the villain hated New Species, his main motivation was financial gain. So that was a new aspect to the story.
True and Jeanie were a cute couple and they developed nicely. Their chemistry was good and they were likable characters. I sure hope the author has a book planned for Flirt because he needs someone of his own.

Book: Wild Wolf
Shelf: Shifter - Week 5

3.5 stars. I love Ashley's historicals but it took me a little while to warm up to this PNR series. I really enjoyed the last couple of books but I have to admit that I wasn't looking forward to Graham's story. I think I'm alone in that, but that's OK with me.
So, I was kind of right to feel that way. I never really warmed up to Graham. He's a bit too much of an old fashioned alpha for me. He's definitely tempered a bit, here in his own book. But it's still there. But I did think he & Misty were a good couple. And the interactions with the cubs are adorable. What I enjoyed more than the romance is the is the interesting world that Ashley has built. The shifters are still discriminated against and they continue to work around that. This book gets more into the fae and introducing some other races stranded in the human realm. So, while this is never going to be my favorite couple I'm still looking forward to others in the series and the expansion of this world.

Loved it. My Favorite Mercy book so far. It was nice to have a book that spent more time on Mercy and Adam as a couple without the pack, Jesse, vampires or the fae around. That didn't mean Mercy wasn't involved with something dangerous that was trying to kill her. This time it involved something related to her Native American heritage.

Good job team, now lets finish out the Shifter Shelf #5 and get ready for Wednesday

This one was just okay. It featured two jaguar shifts who were on their annual rainforest vacation in the amazon when they stumbled onto a military sting gone awry. Jaguar shifter Connor Anderson rescues Captain Katherine McKnight from the Colombian drug lord who took her hostage and formed a bond with her.
Even though Connor lived with his sister jaguar shifter Maya, he longed for a mate and thus began their journey.
The writing was just okay as was the actual story. I may pick up book 2 if it's on sale.

Loved it! I loved Meg's ability to win over the various types of Others with her simple kindness and thoughtfulness. The Crows, the Ponies, the Sanguinati the Elementals and to some extent the Wolves. Eventually she is considered "our" Meg by them, and they will do whatever is necessary to protect her from the people trying to take her back to where she ran away from.
I particularly loved her interactions with Sam.

Review:
This is the third installment of the Rylee Adamson books. Rylee is just as kickass as before however she came off as extremely abrasive this time. I was really confused about why she was being bitchy to every single random stranger she encountered. She came off as a hard ass in the other books but this time around she felt unnecessarily mean at times.
I'm also ready for these stories to be more cohesive. So far in each book there has been a missing child plot and personal Rylee plot. I'm ready for the two to become one because it's starting to feel a little formulaic.
I hate that the issue with Liam hasn't been resolved but it seems they are getting more clear on feelings so that's a step in the right direction. Speaking of relationships, (view spoiler) .["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Sabrina Jeffries is one of my favorite historical romance authors and after their "sparks fly" meeting in the last book I was looking forward to Tristan and Zoe's story. And I did really enjoy it but there were a couple of minor things keeping it from the favorites shelf.
The beginning and the ending were excellent. From the bombshell that Zoe wants The Duke's Men to investigate Zoe and Tristan begin with that sparky chemistry. And at the end from the time you find out the story behind Zoe's question and the confrontation between longtime enemies the story really takes off. I didn't want to book the book down. In the middle, however, it seemed to drag a little bit. Nothing bad really, just easier to put aside.
One other annoying little thing, Zoe has an Aunt Floria, referred to as Aunt Flo. Every time I read it it set me off giggling a bit. Especially when "Aunt Flo came to visit". It took me a minute to remember there was a real Aunt Flo in the story and it wasn't Zoe getting her period. (And I really doubt they would have referred to it at all, never mind as Aunt Flo in mixed company).
But those were minor issues. I enjoyed Tristan and Zoe's relationship. And I think Sabrina Jeffries is very good at giving glimpses of previous and future couples without overwhelming the current story. It's a nice little extra for the series reader. With all the events in this book, it provides and excellent set up for Dom's book next.
