Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet by Darynda Jones - 4 March 15 ★★★★★
I love Charley. Sarcastic, flighty, and flawed. I don't even mind when she goes off on tangents: coming up with a name for her sofa. I liked the fact there was more Reyes and that he shares more info with her about being the grim reaper.
A random favorite line: "No,I'm Apple. Charley's evil twin."

Awesome!
Dani, have you read your free Space book? If so, you forgot to post it here!

I really enjoyed this addition to the series. At first I wasn't super excited to read about Dragos and Pia again. It's not that I don't like them, I actually really do... I was just ready to get to another couple's story and see this world built more. But I have to say, going in with low expectations was the wrong thing because once I got going I REALLY got into it. The book actually felt much shorter than previous books and felt very much like a transition book. We basically dive into the relationship of Dragos and Pia still learning one another, Dragos trusting Pia to handle herself and his business alone, and then finally the Sentinel games.
I would have liked to see more of the sentinel games highlighted other than a few quick glances but as usual I was still hooked because: 1. Thea Harrison has awesome Wyrs (shifters) that very few other authors use. You can always expect something fun and different with her. 2. Pia and Dragos are so cute and also totally hot together. 3. I appreciate (view spoiler)
I'm really looking forward to Ariyel's story. I came out of this one with her not has my favorite character though I've liked her in the other books, she was especially bristly when I thought she and Pia would be cool now that it's 7 months since Pia and Dragos's first book. Alas Ariyel is mean as hell and it looks like she and her HEA are going to have a task on their hands.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

So I've been putting off reading this book because I just wasn't ready for the series to be over. I wasn't ready to say goodbye to Cady, Lon & Jupe. Unlike a lot of series that run out of gas, this one being over in 4 books felt perfect, a little too short but mainly that's due to wanting to spend more time with the characters, the story was completely wrapped up.
It's hard to review this one without series spoilers. I'll just say that this book picks up not long after the major events of the 3rd book. The showdown between Cady and you know who is coming and I love that Cady & Lon continue their strong relationship even with the curveballs thrown at them here. We also get some of Jupe's POV and that was great.
I always recommend this series all the time for UF readers who like a little romance in their stories. Cady and Lon are a great couple and the family that they form with Jupe makes me so happy when I'm reading. And by the time I got to the epilogue I had both a grin and some tears (happy tears).

you gotta save light and fluffy for after you read books like

Book: Beneath the Scars by Melanie Moreland

Rating & Review: ★★★.
A cute, yet predictable about novel about love, forgiveness and healing. I liked the story and I liked the characters, but I found the novel as a whole lacking in both plot and character development. Megan Greene and Zachary Adams were two wounded souls looking to hide from the world while healing from betrayal. Megan’s trust was abused by a trusted friend, so she sought refuge away from prying eyes. Her friend had a secluded place on a beach in a town called Cliff’s Edge and she offered to Megan . On the beach, she ran into the reclusive artist named Zachary and he was really rude. The mean he was, the nice Megan reacted until Megan’s kindness eventually wore down the cankerous neighbor. That’s when the story revealed why each person sought refuge at the Ocean front.
The theme and plot had a lot of promise, but it fell a little short as the author wasn’t able to really infuse the plot with the necessary emotion to make it angsty. It was also rather predictable so I wasn’t shocked when there was a huge misunderstanding leading to a separation. I didn’t feel like I was given sufficient information to draw my own conclusion about the character of both. No real foundation was lain about them. However, it was a sweet story about redemption and second chances. I always love those because it usually means that the characters have evolved and matured by the end of the book.

Sounds good

Blazing the Trail by Deborah Cooke 9 Mar 15 ★★★
I've long loved Deborah Cooke's Pyr series and the previous 2 books in this spin-off trilogy, I just wish I hadn't waited so long to read the final book.
I agree with other reviewers in regards to Zoe's obsession with Jared and what appears to be a lack of interest in her. He has staid in touch with her best friend (who has the same special magical skill as Jared.). In the meantime, Zoe hangs out with a wolf shifter who seems to like her and even asks her to the Valentine's day dance. Derek is sweet and decent, though Zoe accepts, she's not sure if she really wants to date him.
I do feel that Jared redeemed himself somewhat by pointing out the obvious reason he's distanced himself. Jared is considerably older than the sixteen-year-old Zoe. He rather not cause trouble with Erik or the law. He's willing to wait until she's older.
Would love to have more stories featuring the younger Pyr.

This was a fluffy, oddball book that is TOTALLY different from what I'm used to from Jennifer Estep. I think maybe I read this at the wrong time. Because it was cotton candy, sweet as gold, let me see you tootsie roll fluffy. So the h decides she is going on a crusade to unmask heroes and villains because her bf and fiance, a villain and a hero were getting it on the day of the wedding. It a little bit of an Incredibles feel to it, except I don't love this like I love the Incredibles.
I get what was happening but some things stood out for me:
1. If they were really villains why didn't the ones she unmasked just off her?
2. The hero was odd at first too. There was an awkward sex scene pretty early in the story...and apparently he had his mask on the entire time because she didn't know his name or know how his face looked. So I guess that's a nod to faceless cosplay sex?
3. Damn that was fluffy.
4. Woefully predictable.

Typical zany, wacky Laurenston shifter book, and that's a good thing. I think you have to be able to let go of any preconceived notions of how "regular" people behave and just go with the over the top personalities and situation to really enjoy these books.
This world has grown huge and a lot of previously featured people show up here. I think Blayne & Bo show up in all the books now. And lest you think I'm complaining about that I'll say that they're one of my favorite couples and them showing up is always comic gold for me. One thing I've always loved about this series is how the shifter's traits really take after their wild animal counterparts (the best being the lion males) and that comes into play here. Toni, the jackal, is all about her family unit just like wild jackals are.
If there's a weakness to the story it's probably that Toni & Ricky tend toward being the calm and well adjusted ones in their respective families. I liked them both, and they were fun together, but their personalities kind of paled compared to other characters. Also, the focus is less on the romance than in earlier entries in the series. That's OK for me because there's so much other entertainment going on but it's definitely a change from the beginning. Shelly Laurenston continues to be one of my go-to authors when I want something guaranteed to make me laugh out loud.

I loved this book. Something about this one just really got me re-invested in the series. I've been reading since it's inception and the last couple of books had good moments but man I really BELIEVED the relationship, love, and struggles of Reseph and Jillian. It was beautiful, tragic, uplifting all that jazz. And add to that the awesome world that Larrissa Ione has created over the course of this series - such a great formula for this book.
I really liked all of glimpses of past characters. Larissa Ione does a great job of incorporating past characters into the story without it seeming like there are like 15 different story lines. Everyone's lines fit the space and it doesn't seem like fodder or filler to make the story longer. I especially felt for Reseph when everyone was so slow to forgive him which was TOTALLY understandable but still sucked because I think he's my favorite Horseman. PLUS this book technically falls into my favorite hero trope - the redeemable villain - more or less. And I'm more excited to read the next in the series especially with all the build up of the two main character Reaver and Harvester. We've been given lots of glimpses and clues for them over the course of the entire series... so ready to read their book!
