Wolf's Fall (Alpha Pack, #6) by J.D. Tyler

Read: 5/4/15
Rating: 2 stars

Review

Having not read any of this series before, I wasn't sure what to expect. I needed to do a review of this one though, so I just jumped right in. Sad to say, I was disappointed. I couldn't connect to any of the characters and just found myself bored a lot of the time. By the end, I was just glad it was done. I most likely won't be reading more in this series.

I'll be posting a more in detail review over at Dark Faerie Tales and will post the link to the review when it's up online.

Sandra | 25908 comments Steph Ann, I read the first one of that series and was less than impressed. Since then various friends have read the series and raved about it. Glad I'm not alone in thinking it just doesn't click and was positively boring in parts.

Sherri | 781 comments Here is the latest update from Daffodil.

This week's look at the bingo stats and where everyone stands.
We added Team 10 (sorry I forgot to mention you last week Bookworms) to the potential winner list, but once again Teams 3 & 8 are still without 4 in a row. A few Teams managed to add more potential winning calls to their list.

Team 1: blue/purple, black/gray, vampires
Team 2: yellow/orange, UF, vampires
Team 4: witches, vampires
Team 5: vampires, yellow/orange
Team 6: Sci-Fi genre, leather or lace, New2You Series
Team 7: leather or lace
Team 9: witches, Sci-Fi genre
Team 10: 1st,2nd,3rd in series, blue/purple
Team 11: yellow/orange
Team 12: UF
Team 13: armed & ready
Team 14: Sci-Fi genre

Of the shelves left to call
Only 2 are not winners and will continue the game for another week
white/beige/pink
red

4 shelves assure a shut-out victory with only 1 team as a potential winner
black/gray: Team 1
New2You series: Team 6
1st, 2nd or 3rd: Team 10
armed & ready: Team 13

7 shelves will mean a race to the finish with more than 1 team in the running
vampires: Team 1, Team 2, Team 4 & Team 5
blue/purple: Team 1 & Team 10
yellow/orange: Team 2, Team 5 & Team 11
UF: Team 2 & Team 12
witches: Team 4 & Team 9
Sci-Fi genre: Team 6, Team 9 & Team 14
leather or lace: Team 6 & Team 7

So what does this all mean? If Vampires is called we still need the New2You shelf finished in addition to Vampires. Team 2 needs vampires and New2You, Teams 4 and 5 need just vampires to finish.

If Black/Purple is called. Man's World shelf will need to be finished along with the Purple. Team 10 the other team with this shelf still needs to complete the called book along with New2You and Man's World for Bingo.

And of course if Black/Grey is called (which is the ONLY non-competitive one) we have until the next week to complete the Black Grey Book. LOL.

Best shelf for us is Black/Grey followed by Black/Purple and then Vampires.

Off to write reviews and post. I'm finished with both Man's World and New2You.

The Shadow Reader (Shadow Reader, #1) by Sandy Williams

Title: The Shadow Reader by Sandy Williams
Rating: ★★★★
Read: April 30th – May 5th
# pages: 307

Review: The Shadow Reader has been in my TBR pile for a LONG time; I kept meaning to get to it, but just never seemed to be able to make the time. Having heard some great things about it I was looking forward to reading and it didn’t disappoint.

I loved the unique twist to the fae and the mortal world and the internal war that fae was struggling with. The fae’s deceitfulness amongst their own and the twists and turns kept the story moving throught the entire book.

I’m a bit on the fence about McKenzie though; I struggled with her difficulties in choosing a side. I get that she was a victim, but once she began to understand that she had been deceived I wanted her to step up more. Kyol and Aren are part of the most bizarre love triangles I think I’ve seen in paranormal/UF books and in the end I’m not sure who I actually wanted McKenzie to end up with. Both have strengths and flaws which had be vacillating between the two.

Overall, a new to me author and series that has been added to the continual reading list.

Trapped (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #5) by Kevin Hearne

Title: Trapped by Kevin Hearne
Rating: ★★★1/2
Read: April 29th – May 6th
# pages: 290

Review: It had been awhile since I had visited Atticus, Oberon and Granuaile and I was glad I was able to jump back into this series with relative ease. Twelve years has passed since the last book and Granuaile has completed her druid training and is ready to bound to the earth; and of course everything goes smoothly with that. NOT!

So what did I like –
• The humor! It is first rate and had me laughing out loud at several places. Oberon is such a hoot and added to the story’s enjoyment.
• Granuaile. Who knew she would become a kickass ninja warrior? I also enjoy that she doesn’t always go along with Atticus’s way of thinking. There are several examples in Trapped when Granuaile’s ideas and principals are tested with the thousand year old druid and I appreciate that although Atticus listens to her opinions he often doesn’t agree with them. It will be interesting to see how that plays out in future novels.

So what didn’t I like –
• The “relationship.” After all the buildup in previous books it fell flat for me. We’ve known for a while that they were attracted to each other and once Granuaile forces the issue after become a druid, Atticus just point of view is anticlimactic (no pun intended).
• Mythology. I’ve liked exploring the mythology in the past novels but in Trapped it was just too much for me. The various realms and species interactions were a bit overwhelming and I found myself just skimming over them to get back to the story.

Overall, I liked Trapped and it was a good read. I’m looking forward to Hunted as I’m hearing great things about it so this is a keeper series for me.

I'm glad it's not just me! I honestly might not have finished it if I didn't have to write a review of it.
