Kushiel's Chosen by Jacqueline CareyMy rating: 3 of 5 stars
I liked this second book less than the first of the series. It was just a bit too long-winded for me, and I found myself getting distracted from the story by the likeness of Terre d'Ange and it's neighbors to Europe, trying to figure out what the real life counterparts to all locations were.
238/6000 pages read, already 140 pages behind schedule...
One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García MárquezMy rating and review: 2 of 5 stars
May be a classic, but not my cup of tea...
666/6000 pages read, meaning I am catching up...
De bekeerlinge by Stefan HertmansMy rating and review: 4 of 5 stars
Recommended to me by my mother, and for very good reasons.
Though the difference in writing style between this read and the previous one was a bit jarring (after the long, complicated compound sentences GGM is so fond of, Hertmans simple and short straightforward sentences felt almost brutal), the story soon drew me in and I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Recommended to anyone who likes a story that lingers in the mind, and doesn't insist on a happy ending.
984/6000 pages read, almost back on track.
A Princess of Mars by Edgar Rice BurroughsMy rating and review: 3 of 5 stars

Just good pulpy fun, though a bit dated.
1170/6000 pages read, still behind a bit but nothing I can't overcome (for example during a holiday).
The Midnight Library by Matt HaigMy rating and review: 4 of 5 stars
Turned out to be a page-turner for me, though I can't even pinpoint why exactly. Quick, fun and easy without being empty, I guess.
1474/6000 pages read, back on track :)
Picture Unavailable by Andrew J BrandtMy rating and review: 3 of 5 stars
A well-built scary story but the ending was a bit of a let-down.
1798/6000 pages read, well on my way.
Never heard of someone have a goal for how many pages to read but that's really cool. Hope you accomplish your goal, 60,000 is a lot😯.
Abby wrote: "Never heard of someone have a goal for how many pages to read but that's really cool. Hope you accomplish your goal, 60,000 is a lot😯."Thanks. I started counting pages instead of books after a year in which I noticed I was choosing short books instead of long ones just to reach my goal. I don't want the goal I set to influence which books I choose.
And yeah, 60,000 is a lot. I'll be happy if I get to 10% ;)
The Rabbit Factor by Antti TuomainenMy rating and review: 4 of 5 stars
Very entertaining.
2098/6000 still going strong.
Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Terry PratchettMy rating and review: 4 of 5 stars
Very amusing, just what I wanted during a very stressful and busy time.
I did fall behind again, though, needed sleep more than entertainment. 2489/6000
Warbreaker by Brandon SandersonMy rating and review: 5 of 5 stars
Love, love loved it...
I had an annotated version and read every annotation afterwards as well. Not something I would want to do with every book I read but I thought it was very interesting to get a glimpse of all the thought processes and interactions with test readers and editors that are involved in writing a book like this.
3661/6000, this put me ahead of schedule again.
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick SüskindMy rating and review: 5 of 5 stars
3933/6000. Being on holiday and the weather being too hot to move more than a finger is very beneficial for taking a serious lead on my goal.
The Mirror Man by Jane GilmartinMy rating and review: 3 of 5 stars
So sad about that ending letting this book down, I really enjoyed most of it.
4224/6000
Tarzan of the Apes by Edgar Rice BurroughsMy rating and review: 3 of 5 stars
Forgettable fun.
4430/6000

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis CarrollMy rating and review: 1 of 5 stars
Total letdown and I wish I hadn't read it because I actually liked what I knew about it from the various adaptations...

Oh I recall this was a 5-star for me as well! It's been years since I've read it but I know I was completely immersed in it when I did.
Do you have a book that has stuck out so far this year as being a front-runner favorite? :)

For this year I would have to say Warbreaker. I'm a huge fantasy fan but after having read so much of it, it's hard to find fantasy that feels original. So many authors get trapped by the same overused tropes. Sanderson's work feels fresh.
A Study in Scarlet by Arthur Conan DoyleMy rating: 3 of 5 stars
I liked it but thought is was very strange to interrupt the mystery with the complete background story of the murderer. Although it was fun to read in itself, that was a very abrupt break in the flow of the book.
4624/6000, still going strong, but now my holiday is over...
Gothic by Philip FracassiMy rating and review: 3 of 5 stars
A very ambivalent feeling after reading this. I wanted to love it, did love parts of it, but overall was left feeling wanting.
5165/6000. It's starting to look good, I think I'll actually hit my goal this year.
Piranesi by Susanna ClarkeMy rating and review: 4 of 5 stars
Although I (just) didn't give it 5 stars this was probably one of my favorite reads of 2022 so far. I guess when a book is hyped more, I get more critical, but this was a refreshing, fun and wholesome read.
5411/6000
The Moonstone by Wilkie CollinsMy rating and review: 1 of 5 stars
Finally DNF'ed, should have done that a lot earlier. Responsible for a new reading slump and not reaching my page goal this year... I'm ending the year on 5757 of 6000 pages read.

I fell short last year, but still think it is a good number to motivate me to read instead of passing my time on only games, series and social media.
