Kristin Quintanilla | 7 comments Time to start reviewing before I forget what I've read! There was a lot to like about this book. There are good characters, strong but flawed, and an exciting story. I think that it will certainly appeal to teens in this age group and I'll recommend it to some adults as well, but it might bore older teens. I admit I had never read 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea but I do know the story so there were some references to it that were a little confusing. If I had no knowledge of it, I'm not sure I would have noticed (I did read it after finishing this). I look forward to the continuation of the series. 4/5

Ash (chocodippedlibrarian) | 5 comments This book was so exciting! I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. I like that it was fast paced but still kept great detail. It did not seem rushed. I absolutely think it will appeal to teens. Ana (and other students) had to overcome a lot of obstacles in a short amount of time. They had to rely on their own intuition and intelligence. I also liked that everyone had strengths and weakness, but they all were pieces to make a great team. 5/5 would definitely recommend.

Librarybud aka (msterrettbentonvillek12org) | 9 comments Oh dear, I'm afraid this one was a real struggle for me. I think my Harry Potter kids will love this because of the similar concept and even reference to Harry Potter, and my kids who are interested in marine life and liviing under the sea will find it fascinating, but the book seemed to lag a great deal quite often. I got a bit tired early on of Ana's trouble with her menstrual cycle details (unnecessary to mention again and again) and really felt that those who haven't read 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea will have a real struggle. There are some clever and intriguing moments, but I'm afraid an impatient reader and unfamiliar reader with Vernes's work will find it difficult to finish. To help remedy this, I plan to place a summary of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in the front of this book to help support understanding. To me this was just a bit mediocre. 3/5
