I read this book around 20015

It probably takes place in New York and central park. The killer goes in hotels and street and parks, we don't understand everything at first.
He walks in a park (central park ?), goes straight to a big and old tree and stick a needle in it and inject something. A the end, we understand it was a poison so the tree doesn't have leaf in spring. The author describe the park full of leafy trees everywhere but not where is the dead one wich left a line of sight straight to the appartment or hotel room of the victim.
I can't remember if he succeds or fail... I can't remember what was the police doing either.

I can't remember, I think i had the feeling this was a lonely man, and i didn't understand everything until the end...
The target ? no idea.
It's one of those books i read in 3 days because i need to undestand, but after, there is nothing left !

The sniper was middle age,
Since i have an e-reader, i don't remember the cover... it was helpful before, you're right !
I don't remember anything about modern technology, cellphone, computer.
I hade a feeling of nice writing, king of peotic like Ellory
