Okay, I've heard the Saga is terrible, but should I still read the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer?

It is pretty terrible, but it isn’t awful. Despite hating the main romance, I still liked the books somewhat. There are other characters in those books that I think are fantastic. I personally love the dynamics of the Cullen family, so yeah, I’d say you should read it

I've never read The Selection. The Selection has a higher avg. rating on GR though, so maybe start with Twilight.

I would do Twilight. I really want to read it, but I haven’t yet. I think you should! The ratings are really confusing for me, because I’m worried all the people are giving it bad ratings because they don’t want to be the one who gives it a good rating 😔

I’m sure some people do that, but the majority of them are genuine I think. The bad reviews were complaining about the same things I do (the toxic/abusive romance, the main character, codependency, etc.)

My Thoughts: Part One of the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer

(view spoiler)[Apparently, people love to hate The Twilight Saga. Sure, it's nothing extraordinary, but I wouldn't call it a total disaster. As Lexi stated above, the worst aspects of the Saga are the toxic and abusive romance, the main character, and the codependency. But all in all, the rest of it didn't reach my DNF standard.

First of all, I'm going to address the romance in general. It wasn't like some enemies-to-lovers deal, but the not-so-interesting new-girl-falls-in-love-with-strange-hot-boy. Before the start of their friendship, Edward (strange-hot-boy) is distant and cold to Bella (new-girl), which he later reveals to be because he was attracted to her blood more than other humans (Edward's a vampire, FYI). He attempted to get as far away from her as possible, but remained unsuccessful. He even left the state of Washington to get away from her, so why did he come back? Why did he start talking to her? What made him want to be around her, despite the thirst for her blood?

Bella...isn't the greatest character. She's the main protagonist of the Saga, the speaker. She fell in love with some hot boy who attends her new school and can't get away from him. She's clumsy, easily distracted, and oblivious to the world around her. She hates rain, and drives a rusty truck. Her parents are divorced, and she was forced to come to Forks (the setting of the story) because her hyper mother was moving to Florida with her new husband. Bella was new and hated everything about her new home, just like any other ordinary girl would. What makes her special enough to pose as the main character of all 4 novels?

Now, Edward and Bella's new-fallen love was...interesting. Edward has special abilities, which he doesn't even try to hide from Bella. After he reveals himself as a vampire, Bella can't get enough. In my opinion, Bella craves that dangerous secret, she wants to be special. She can't get enough of vampires and all their ways. She wants to be a vampire. So it makes me wonder...Is Bella really in it for Edward? Or is she in it for the thrill and wonders of being a different, immortal species from myth? (hide spoiler)]

My Thoughts: Part Two of the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer

(view spoiler)[It doesn't take long for Bella to realize her new boyfriend isn't ordinary. He's strong, extremely fast, and unearthly gorgeous (at least, Bella sees him that way). Edward...doesn't even try to hide it from Bella. They had only met a few times, and he felt entirely responsible for her. They don't talk, then he comes and tells her the biggest and most dangerous secret he has?

Edward doesn't hesitate to introduce his family to Bella. Bella even plays baseball with his family, when they've been dating for what...2 months? Maybe less? But that's when they meet more vampires...ones who actually drink human blood (The Cullens drink animals blood[They're vegetarians]) and that's when all the cullens protect Bella because 'They haven't seen Edward this happy.' 😑 Personally, I don't buy it. It doesn't make sense to me. Why did Edward fall in love with someone who he would have to control himself around, and on top of that, Bella isn't all that interesting. She's a clumsy, average girl who loves sunny Arizona more than the misty forests in Washington. And even after he did fall in love with her, why didn't he change her into a vampire? I know he believes vampires (view spoiler)[have evil souls and will go to H**l (I don't know how young some of our members may be) when they die (or get killed). (hide spoiler)] But he clearly loved her, so why couldn't have it been a Rosalie/Emmett moment? When Rosalie found Emmett and knew she wanted to live with him, she changed him so they could live together, literally forever.

Okay, okay, enough of all the negativity and things I don't understand about the Saga. Let's move on to something happier, like what I like about the series.

My Thoughts: Part Three of the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer

(view spoiler)[Okay, I promised you all some positivity and reasons why you should read the Saga, right? Okay, here we go. Let's start rambling (because I totally haven't been rambling in my past 2 posts 😁)

Okay, first, we just HAVE to talk about the Cullens. Seven unusual vampires, different from their own kind. They're humane, compassionate, hard-working, and protective. They protected Bella just because she meant so much to Edward. They have a strong sense of family, friends, they know who to trust, who to hate, when to leave, when to return. It's like second nature to them. Even though not one of them are truly related, they all live among their brothers and sisters, their sons and daughters (in Carlisle and Esme's case). They would risk everything, just for each other. To me, one of the better aspects of the Twilight Saga is the Cullens. They prove how they want to live, and I think if we all had the strength, compassion, and willpower of the Cullen family, we could all make the world a heck of a better place than it currently is.

One of my favorite and in my opinion, well-constructed aspects of the Saga is the Werewolf pack. Jacob, Bella's best friend, is a werewolf. His brothers, in arms, if not blood, all are bonded together by a mutual brotherhood. They can understand each other's thoughts, horse around like middle-schoolers, but still share that same protectiveness over their tribe. Emily, one of the tribe's women, understands that relationship. She's compassionate and cares for them, even though she cannot change into a giant wolf herself. Overall, I love the Quinette tribe because of some of the same reasons I love the Cullens. They're selfless, compassionate beings with a strong sense of family, and will protect anyone from their enemies.

Okay, I know this sounds crazy, but if you haven't read the Saga, I think you should. I'm less than halfway through at this point, but it's highly entertaining. There's a lot of action, not an overabundance of romance, and a thrilling read. Either way...I do need you to read it so I can hear your opinion...Team Edward or Team Jacob? P.S. For young readers who are planning on reading the Twilight Saga:
In the 4th Book, Breaking Dawn, I have been told there is an 18+ scene that I feel like I should warn you about. Beware!

There actually isn't an 18+ scene in Breaking Dawn. Stuff happens, but Stephenie Meyer is a Mormon, and is therefore not graphic with anything involving her romances =) Trust me, as someone who read this at 17 and hates mature adult themes, that book doesn't have any. Not really

Not really. It's more implied than shown tbh. I mean, I wouldn't hand any of these books to anyone under 13-14, but that's only because it's a YA romance that I don't think is suitable for young children. But teens should be fine. I hate mature, adult themes in books as well as adult scenes, and I honestly like how things were handled in the Twilight saga =)

Yeah, it been forever since I've read the Pyrrhia prophecy books, so I'm reading 1-10. I forgot how much I loved the Pyrrhian tribes =)

My favorite tribe so far is a SeaWing tribe I think, though I haven't fully met the SandWing or NightWing tribes. I'm barely on book 4, so I'm still on the 1st arc. I did find the RajnWing tribe interesting though. My least favorite is the MudWing tribe.

For me, I've read all the books except the 15th...but I'm getting there.

Currently, my favorite Pyrrhian tribe is the Icewings (they get into detail about the Icewing tribe in the 2nd arc), after that, my second-favorites are the Seawings and Sandwings. My fourth, Rainwings. Fifth, Nightwings. Sixth, Skywings; Seventh, Mudwings. I have nothing against any of these tribes, but Mudwings I just find the most boring and (I'm sorry) less beautiful than the other tribes.

That's very true. B&N is the greatest. No one can convince me otherwise. Also, the B&N I go to have a rip-off Starbucks in it and whenever you get a book, you get a Buy-One-Get-One-Free coupon to use at the Starbucks. It's pretty great.

yeah...I don't know, maybe it's just me, but it just wasn't as exciting as I'd hoped. It definitely got a lot more complex, which is good, but there wasn't the same action the rest of the books have. Ah, oh well. I prefer the Pyrrhian books better anyway, so I'll just stick to those.
