I read the book around 2015-2016. All i remember about the book is that two sisters live in a village outside of a forest that prisoners are sent to. The sisters are seer and seeker or keeper i can't remember that to well. One of the sisters gives a dagger to one of the prisoners going into the forest to help him survive.

oh it's Sea of Shadows. I love that series. Don't know the name of the series but first book is sea of shadows, second is the forest of ruin, and third is the empire of night. Author is Kelley Armstrong
in reply to my above comment, it's the Age of Legends trilogy. Mixed up the second and third book as well haha but yeah, without a doubt that is the series your thinking of
