To me the case in A Mother's Trial is honestly a lot worse...But then I'm no expert on Gypsy Rose.

In Gypsy's case, I was horrified that her mother injected urine and possibly other things into her to keep her disabled, gave her a mountain of medication to keep her so spaced out that she couldn't even walk, and verbally abused her by telling her that she would never be able to function in the real world. I would be very interested to read Gypsy's book.

I finally had the minimum basic brains to make a shelf called "Attempted" for people who got away alive from kidnappers, killers, etc and for any other crime that didn't quite fly. Any suggestions to add titles to this wide-ranging shelf are welcome...

Any suggestions ..."The book I just read, Murder, Interrupted, has the Gypsy-Rose Blanchard story in the second half of the book. It was included because it was felt that Gypsy was saved from murder by her mother when her 'boyfriend' killed the mother. The first murder in the book is about a husband who hired a hit man to kill his wife. She was shot in the head but lived.

Crime ALWAYS finds me. I'm happily reading Why Fish Don't Exist: A Story of Loss, Love, and the Hidden Order of Life, about a naturalist from the turn of the last century, and sure enough there's a whole section about the guy's cover-up of the murder of his boss.
The Dozier School for Boys now has its own shelf. There are quite a few books on it. I struck a vein of these books when looking for something else wntirely...

Just wanted to say, if you are looking for an old discussion thread, it may have been moved to "Archive" folder. However, since I only move threads there when they have been inactive for a year, if you really don't want to search just start a new one. I used to lock them but haven't in a while because people complained.
Just wondering whether people consider the use of nuclear weapons a crime that belongs on our bookshelves. Not for the first time I have considered this option after reading Hibakusha over the weekend.

I just added a shelf for the Gujarat Riots which I never heard about before this week.

I accidentally struck a vein of serial killer trivia and quiz books in the GR database. They went onto our Serial Murder and Other True Crime shelves.Jay Gould -- the finance finagler, not the college professor -- now has his own shelf.

We now have a shelf for Jamal Khashoggi. Without even trying hard I found TWELVE books to add to it.
After assuming for a long time that there was just one book on Thomas Quick, I found a chapter on him in the book I'm reading that mentioned a couple of others. I quickly found even more than that, so he now has his own shelf.
There are now 2 books extant on Bruce McArthur (that I know of), so he now has his own shelf.
Robert Durst, who somehow did not have a shelf before now, has one.
Liver-Eating Johnson now has his own shelf. I put it under "Jeremiah Johnson" even though I prefer the nickname.
Someone on Reddit said the jury has come to a verdict on Ruben Flores but they're waiting for the verdict on Paul Flores before they announce it. This must be miserable for Kristin Smart's family.

I guess I didn't make it clear. James Patterson books are like a condensed version. I'm wondering if there is another book that is just that crime. I did an Amazon search and it looks like there are some short books but not what I was thinking so I must have seen this case on tv.
