Robin (robinmy) | 1389 comments Did you ever read two books at once and find that they were so much alike that you were getting confused? Both were humorous contemporary romances where a baby drew the couple together. Both had protagonists who swore they would never marry. Both books had heroes whose parent's relationship affected them deeply. Lucky for me, I'm working on a challenge where you read books that have like themes, titles, etc. These books fit the bill.

Good point. I usually don't even think about which genres I'm picking up next.

It was after that I started paying attention. I believe it was two historical fictions and I mixed them up horribly.

message 268: by Anita (new)

Anita (anitanodiva) | 1128 comments That has happened to me too. In fact, I just finished two Historical Romances back-to-back and got the details mixed up in my mind. I definitely agree about reading and listening to different genres. It is easier to keep the plots separate for me.

Robin (robinmy) | 1389 comments Sometimes I have a hard time keeping the facts straight in some of these books, especially the audiobooks. It's really hard when there are two books at once and they are so much alike. I'll definitely be watching which genres I'm picking up at the same time.

Luffy Sempai (luffy79) | 441 comments I am reading two books (Evil in Emerald, Means of Ascent) and I may begin a Complete Works of Virginia Woolf soon.

Means of Ascent is a quite ambitious book. It is nonfiction. A book about Lyndon Johnson. I am finding it as interesting as a good fiction book. People who say that David McCullough or Walter Isaacson is the apex of biographies disregard Robert A. Caro's excellent books. I recommend them to everyone, including middle graders. The level of research into the subject is so, so, vast. It is written in basic English with a smattering of precise words. Means of Ascent will occupy and delight me for days.

Evil in Emerald, by A.M. Stuart, is a third book in the Harriet Gordon Mystery series. It contains a subdued and understated style of writing, with a plot that could be better so far (I gave books 1 and 2, 3 and 2 stars respectively). I hope the story is worth reading. Even if the book disappoints, I will come back for a fourth helping. There is a special quality in this book. There is an outdated austerity that I find authentic. Hope I manage to read it all.
