Clearly, Foley plotted a great deal to write this mystery. It fell a bit short but was very entertaining.

The book is a novelization of the Alfred Dreyfus affair that rocked the French Army back in 1895 and exposed widespread corruption within its ranks. Dreyfus was falsely court martialed for treason and spend several years on Devil’s Island in French Guiana before evidence came to light that he was innocent.
I have read four of Harris’ other novels (ARCHANGEL, MUNICH, THE GHOST, and V2) and really enjoyed them. After I finish off this book I think I will start hunting for some of his earlier stuff.

Guess what? Town destination refused entry, so where to go? The Brink, Brink Island, an isolated island off the coast of Western Australia, of course. Western Australian author Holden Sheppard understands this place and these kids.

Just finished The Supernatural Enhancements by Edgar Cantero. Review here, https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Now on the third story in Mostly Murder by Joe Gores. Gores was a frequent contributor to Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine, in which several of these stories were originally published, though he's probably best remembered for Hammett: A Novel, which was adapted into a mediocre film.

Started rereading A Time to Kill for the group read. I'd forgotten about the part where he uses racial slurs on pretty much every page. Sheesh. Story good -- cringeworthy use of epithets not so good.
I keep forgetting to mention this book, The Rightful Future by Dianne Liuzzi Hagan.
I read it last year. Dianne and her husband are 40+ year friends. My probably biased review is here, https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I also finished The Very Nice Box by Laura Blackett

which is maybe not a real 'thriller' but it has some interesting points that made me like it!

Finished reading A Time to Kill by John Grisham for the July group read. Now on to Razorblade Tears and Devil in a Blue Dress by Walter Mosley for this month's Reading the Movies choice.

Mortimer Angel #5, probably best to read series in order. I've read the whole series and this is by far the weakest entry. Almost the first half of the book is taken up with teasing, flirting, cute dialogue between Mort and a pretty girl. The plot is OK, its just that way too much of the book is wasted -- I found myself skipping whole pages of dialogue. 2 stars.

I hadn't originally intended to read this since it's off of the beaten track for me. But I ended up doing so because I had I received an invitation from the publisher. This was very good, and I need to prioritize more sci-fi thrillers.

I watched the pre-code film made from that book yesterday, The Ninth Guest (1934). Follows the book pretty closely except that the powers that be added an extra character for the movie, an assistant butler whose only function in the film was (I think) to provide comic relief.
