Sherlock Holmes Retold for Children by Alex Woolf with illustrations by Eve O'Brien is a terrific set of classic stories that can be enjoyed by all ages. This is a 16-book box set of chapter books, but there are singles and audios and small sets, too. All libraries should have them!
4.5~5★ My review of Sherlock Holmes retold with some of the illustrations
I am very fond of Aussie author Emma Viskic's Caleb Zelic, but this is said to be the deaf investigator's last story. (I tweeted to her that Kat and the ancestors will pester her to continue!) Those Who Perish is excellent, and I want more!

Under occupation
by Alan FurstThe story of a writer caught up in the French Resistance in Paris during WW II. Far from Furst's best, this is second rate Furst which is still good/OK. Still better than most in this genre but a disappointment for Furst's fans. 3 stars.
I listened to Stay Awake
but wasn’t a fan like most. My three star review:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Finished two excellent reads this afternoon.
Dirt Town by Hayley Scrivenor ⭐⭐⭐⭐.4 https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Out of Her Depth by Lizzy Barber ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished - for our group read:
And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
Rating: 4 stars

I also finished an excellent roman dur (noir):
The Snow Was Dirty by Georges Simenon
Rating: 4 stars
Review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
and I started reading:
Anatomy of a Murder by Robert Traver
I've just today finished Death At The President's Lodging by Michael Innes. I've read a few of his books besides this one that were better. Next up in the mystery category is likely A Question of Proof by Nicholas Blake (1935).
Now starting WHAT IT WAS by George Pelecanos, the fifth book in his Derek Strange mystery/thriller series set in Washington DC.I enjoyed the previous books featuring Derek Strange and I have read another half dozen of Pelecanos' other series and stand alone novels. I wish he would write more stuff but he has been doing a lot of TV work lately (writing and producing) and having a lot of success with it.
The Daughter of Time by Josephine Tey. Did not live up to the hype of being one of the best mysteries of all time. It was different but too dry. 3/5

Euphoria is a lovely state if you can achieve it. Lily King's Nell Stone (a fictional version of anthropologist Margaret Mead ) does get carried away with her studies of primitive societies, but this book is more about jealousy and desire in her own. Fascinating setting, research, and characters.
5★ My review of Euphoria
That clever femme-fatale Phryne Fisher solves all kinds of crimes in these short stories, The Lady with the Gun Asks the Questions, by Aussie author Kerry Greenwood. One for fans of the fabulous Miss Fisher.

A Necessary Evil
by Abir MukherjeeCaptain Wyndham #2. India, 1920. English policeman is tasked to solve a murder/assassination of an Indian Prince. Great characters, complicated plot, fascinating milieu. Written to a high level, 4 stars.
Beyond the Moonlit Sea by Julianne MacLean ⭐⭐.5 https://sandysbookaday.wordpress.com/...https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Yesterday I finished reading The Twilight World by Werner Herzog about Hiroo Onoda's time in the jungle after he refuses to believe that World War II is over. The man is a natural-born, gifted storyteller in any medium. My suggestion would be to read No Surrender: My Thirty-Year War, Onoda's own memoir, before going on to read Herzog's book.
Starting A Question of Proof by Nicholas Blake, and well into yet another volume of the British Library Tales of the Weird, Our Haunted Shores: Tales from the Coasts of the British Isles.

While I'm thinking about it, would anyone like a brand-new, paperback never-read copy of Deadline at Dawn by Cornell Woolrich? I mistakenly bought a second copy by accident. It's one of the books in the Penzler American Crime Classics series.
US only, free to you and I will pay postage.
