A Flicker in the Dark
by Stacy WillinghamThe daughter of a serial killer gets a bad case of déjà vu twenty years after her father goes to prison for life.....because the killings seem to be starting again.
Very good thriller 4 stars

Wonderfully narrated by George NewbernRules of War by Matthew Betley
A terrific thriller, full of fun and adventure. A perfect beach read or book to read in between more serious reads.
I'm working on The Feast of the Goat by Mario Vargas Llosa, a reread after finishing his Harsh Times. I loved it the first time through and I'm loving it again.
My copy of Fuminori Nakamura's My Annihilation arrives today, and I'll be starting that one right away.

The Midnight Hour
by Elly GriffithsMagic Men #6, OK to read as a stand-alone. A retired theatrical producer has been poisoned and Edgar and the Brighton cops are on the case -- but with the additional help of a new crime-fighting duo. And I won't tell you who. The book is a wonderful addition to the series with a complicated plot and warm human characters. I liked it a lot -- 4 stars.
A Tidy Ending[bookcover:A Tidy EndingA phenomenal psychological, twisty reading voyage. 5/5 stars

Now starting FROM A DARK HORIZON by Luke McCallin. It is a prequel novel to his WWII mystery trilogy featuring German Army intel officer and investigator Gregor Reinhardt.
I finished The Feast of the Goat late yesterday -- a superb novel of historical fiction by Mario Vargas Llosa and a sort of companion piece to his latest book, Harsh Times, which I also liked but not as much as Feast of the Goat. Starting another of Llosa's books, The War of the End of the World but first Fuminori Nakamura's My Annihilation, which so far is quite good.
I just finished The Chase
Fun, riveting entertainment. My four star review:

This ain't Jonathan Stride, but if you like Brian Freeman's writing, folks, this one's good! The Ursulina

I like Barclay's books. 🙂
Rag and Bone
by James R. BennBilly Boyle #5, OK to read as a stand-alone. 1943. Billy's now in England tasked by Ike to find the murderer of a Russian army officer. Which leads to angry Polish patriots and English gangsters. This could be the best of the series; 5 stars, highly recommended.
I finished the basis for the iconic Michael Caine film:
Get Carter by Ted Lewis
Rating: 4 stars

Also, I finished the first of the Lincoln Rhyme/Amelia Sachs books (much better than the film):
The Bone Collector by Jeffery Deaver
Rating: 4 stars

and I started reading the sequel to Relic:
Reliquary by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child
Murder Most Howl
by Krista DavisIn the pet friendly town of Wagtail, a real homicide occurs during a murder mystery game.
Fun cozy mystery. 3 stars

Moon Over Soho
by Ben AaronovitchRivers of London #2, recommend you read #1 first (Midnight Riot). It appears that someone is killing Jazz musicians in London and PC Peter Grant is on the case. And since magic is real it's not as simple as it looks. This could be one of the finest books in the series, extremely exciting and fun with lots of snarky humor -- Grant talks about city planners as working to finish what the Luftwaffe started. The book was amazing -- 5 stars.
Up to No Gouda
by Linda ReillyIn this debut "Grilled Cheese Mystery", restaurateur Carly Hale - who owns a grilled cheese sandwich eatery - investigates when one of her employees is suspected of murder.
Cute culinary cozy. 3 stars

Finished The Silent Sisters,
another good 'un by Robert Dugoni. From NetGalley.Review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Finished, Something More Than Night by Kim Newman. Mad scientists, madder film execs, early 1940s, Boris Karloff in lead role with Raymond Chandler who also narrates, what more could you ask? At least tangentially associated with the mystery genre. A bit more
