For JoJo, I pick one that was given to me in this relay. The Joy Luck Club. It was really good.

Jennifer, I think you could pick from Pixie's To-Read bookshelf. That's the default.

message 207: by Jennifer (last edited Nov 01, 2022 09:50AM) (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Thanks! I picked from that shelf. I’m glad I’m specifying, then, because all I use the to-read shelf for is to stash books I see when I’m in a hurry that I want to look at later to see if I have any interest in!

message 215: by JoJo_theDodo (new)

JoJo_theDodo Thank you Marla for picking The Nightingale for me. I really enjoyed it. That is the third book I have read by Kristin Hannah and I have enjoyed all of them. I think I may need to add all of her books to my TBR.

For you Reagan I will pick The Astonishing Color of After by Emily X.R. Pan it is on my TBR and it seems to have received many good reviews.

For my next read please pick from my Hardback Bookshelf:

Jennifer | 341 comments Thank you for selecting The Lies of Locke Lamora for me. It has been on my to-read list for a while. I ended up picking it for my book club pick too.

For Jo-Jo, I recommend Dear Edward. You and I have quite a few books in common and I think you will enjoy this book. It was the first book I read with the book club I mentioned above and we all liked it. It is emotional but worth it.

Please select from my library-on-hold or sitting-on-my-bookshelf lists.

message 217: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Kim, I finally got around to reading Marta Oulie. Perfect length and difficulty for today, and excellent book. Reminds me of the best literature in college, the stuff that was easy enough to read and enjoy, but that also had a lot of stuff to dissect and discuss.

Jennifer, this might possibly be a good time of year for you to read the library book Set Boundaries, Find Peace: A Guide to Reclaiming Yourself.

Next person, please pick from my 'on-deck' shelf... it's still the ebooks, but it's a prioritized & shorter list. You don't have to worry about length anymore. :)

message 218: by Pixiegirl105 (new)

Pixiegirl105 | 64 comments Finished In Cold Blood. I always forget how great an author Truman Capote is.

I'm going to be done with this post and start up in the next on in 2023. So if the next person wants to pick for Cheryl, that would keep the post going :)

message 219: by Tokoro (new)

Tokoro (magicschooltokoro) | 24 comments O.o Kim, I see a Chunukah-themed one and also a possible romp which sounds interesting from your 'on deck' shelf I'd love to hear about from you! Id' say either Potato Pancakes All Around by Marilyn Hirsch (pan-holiday season read) or Alastair Chisholm's Consequence Girl (if it's not part of a series, as the book page doesn't specify). If I made it on time before someone else!

Someone could choose for me something either recently added to my library shelf or my bookshops/little free library shelves, to get more of those checked off (and also many to-read of mine on here I do not own).

Tokoro, I assume the pick is for Cheryl, correct? You mentioned Kim, so got confused.

message 221: by Tokoro (new)

Tokoro (magicschooltokoro) | 24 comments Yes, for Cheryl, sorry.

message 222: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I very much enjoyed Potato Pancakes All Around: A Hanukkah Tale. It's much like the Stone Soup story. I'm not Jewish, so I don't know from... but it did feel like true to 'old country' culture depicted; it has a lot in common with, for example, some of the stories by Isaac Bashevis Singer.

Tokoro, I'm reading the Next Generation novels now and will read the original series Star Trek in a few months (I hope). I'd love to know what you think of Captain's Peril from your library.

I don't need another pick because Tokoro also suggested another book to me (Consequence Girl) and it will probably take me until the new thread in 2023 to read it.

Thanks for a great year, y'all!!

Oh, glad you read the potato pancake one! My sister get them from the local German restaurant my nephew likes, which also has festivities for Sint Niklaus Day.

How do the Star Trek series work? Are they based off the films or television episodes or original stories?

I've gotten somewhere around 100 pages into mine, from before, and so far I've been very impressed by however William Shatner is involved in the writing in the explanatory science and the banter between retired Enterprise captains, how they tease each other and put on display their personalities. So, I will need to get a hold of it again and finish it. I've read Stars Wars expanded universe volumes before but never any Star Trek.

Someone can pick another for me, so we can keep it going, again from my bookshops-book sales shelf.

Cheryl (cherylllr) Tokoro wrote: ".How do the Star Trek series work? Are they based off the films or television episodes or original stories?.."

All of the above! It's very confusing to me. I'm using lists provided by other people... and sometimes those lists don't match up, either.

I think it's easier if you just want to read a few for fun. But I've decided to read all the boxes full that I inherited from my brother. It's a project!

That's exactly what I do most of the time: spontaneously pick from a larger series just for kicks. I'm not much of a series person, with my attentions span and reading habits so scattered.

I chose Lake Roland for you and hope you'll enjoy it.

Please select a book from my 'Bookcase unread' (https://www.goodreads.com/review/list... ) shelf. Thank you!

Hi Lena
For you I pick: A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens Just because it's a good season for this read. I've watched several versions of the movie, but have not actually read the book myself. I will add this to my TBR too!

For my next read please pick from my Hardback Books Shelf: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

message 228: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) (Oh goodness. Anyone who has not read the Christmas Carol really is missing out. I've not read any of Dickens' long novels, but this story is such a treat that I've read it several times. Print is better than audio because then you can pause and reread all the juicy lines. You're in for a treat!)

Same, Cheryl. I really enjoyed A Christmas Carol too and have also not read any of his other novels. But it's been years since I read it. I need to reread it some year. Probably not this year, but maybe next year.

message 230: by superawesomekt (new)

superawesomekt | 264 comments I agree, A Christmas Carol is fantastic to read; however, sometimes I put on Tim Curry's narration when I'm working on projects and need to be hands free and it is so good!

message 231: by Lena (new)

Lena (lenaw) | 88 comments So I'm looking very much forward to this read. Thanks for choosing this gem!

message 232: by Ron (new)

Ron (rtwoj) | 83 comments Although I am not officially a member of this group, I would like to make a recommendation if I may. For those who have read "A Christmas Carol" by Dicken's, I highly recommend "Mr. Dickens and His Carol" by Samantha Silva. It's a great companion read to the original by Dickens and a heartwarming story for the holiday season. In addition to "A Christmas Carol", I have also read "Great Expectations' and "A Tale of Two Cities" by Dickens as well. By references to characters in other Dicken's novels, Ms. Silva has inspired me to read other Dicken's novels as well.
