Hello Hannah,
I choose Nightingale for you to read next.

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I finished Twelve Angry Men by Reginald Rose Twelve Angry Men and now I need to get the movie out again.

Pushkar, I am choosing A Wrinkle in Time (Time Quintet, #1) by Madeleine L'Engle for you. It's exciting and heartwarming and perfect for a weekend read!

To whomever, please pick from my Very Next Up Shelf.

message 104: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Thank you Samantha. Key to the Treasure was unfortunately not very good, but it was light and now it's off my list! Your idea to use a random number generator was a good one.

Jennifer, I also have The Guncle on my to-read lists. I hope you like it, and please let us know!

Again I ask next person for something light from my sony or android shelf:
https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

message 105: by Pixiegirl105 (new)

Pixiegirl105 | 64 comments Well finished The Westing Game. interesting note, the library copy was so antique that i would have had to go read it in a special section of the library....sooo gave into ebooks for this one. it was a fun book!

Cheryl, i pickA Choice of Catastrophes because Asimov is one of my favorite sci-fi writers. :) (also had to add to my tbr...)

Thanks to JoJo for suggesting News of the World. I love reading historical fiction, and this one was a gem. Will be watching the movie soon.

Hannah, for you I choose The Humans by Matt Haig. You may not have liked his Midnight Library tale, but this story is very different. It has all the feels, it's funny and sad, and I loved it. Hope you do too.

So what's my next book, dear readers?

message 108: by Samantha (new)

To whomever, please pick from my Very Next Up Shelf.

message 113: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 87 comments I finished Flowers for Algernon. Thanks for the pick!

Jennifer your next book is Death Is Like a Box of Chocolates - totally picked this one based on the title! :)

For the person picking for me, I'm looking for a nice light side-read while I am reading The Count of Monte Cristo.

message 114: by Ailine (new)

Ailine | 6 comments Brittany I chose for you Life’s to short to fold your underwear by Patricia Lorenz and hope you enjoy the short stories as much as I did.

I would be very excited to read a new biography!

message 115: by Tony (new)

Tony (flintflash) | 48 comments Renata - Thanks for suggesting "Wuthering Heights". I enjoyed it!

Ailine - I did not see this book on your 'want to read' list but you asked for a new biography. So for you I chose:
Not Dead Yet: The Memoir Not Dead Yet The Memoir by Phil Collins by Phil Collins I really enjoyed it. Phil really opens up and shares some great stories.

For me, if you could choose from my 'Ready-To-Be-Read" list

Tony, just a gentle reminder that this challenge is meant to decrease our TBR's, so please select a book from Ailine's bookshelf. Thanks!

message 117: by Tony (new)

Tony (flintflash) | 48 comments Sorry for that, I got thrown by "new". My mistake! :)

Ailine - let's go with Keanu Reeves: Most Triumphant: The Movies and Meaning of an Irrepressible Icon Keanu Reeves Most Triumphant The Movies and Meaning of an Irrepressible Icon by Alex Pappademas by Alex Pappademas I like Keanu and think it would be a interesting book.

Again, for me, if you could choose from my 'Ready-to-be-read' list

Samantha | 539 comments Tony wrote: "choose from my 'Ready-to-be-read' list

Tony, I am choosing A Dog's Journey because I have been wanting to read the first one and it looks like you rated it high so hopefully this second one will be just as good!

I also forgot to mention that Will by Will Smith was definitely an intriguing read! He sort of lost me a bit toward the end but it was fun overall. Definitely listen to the audio so you can hear him narrate, rap, and hear his overall emotion.

For my next pick, please choose from the following shelf:

Hi Samantha : )

For your next read I will pick:
Black Sun (Between Earth and Sky, #1) by Rebecca Roanhorse

I haven't read it yet, but it was recommended by a couple people and I have it on my TBR Rec list. I'd love to know how you liked it once you've read it.

For the next Bookish friend picking for me, please choose from my Next Read list:

Renata (renatag) | 1478 comments Mod
Just finished reading The Guest List. Thanks Samantha for the great pick! It was a real page-turner, soap-opera and an easy read.

JoJo, you've got a great list there! For you I pick a classic, To Kill a Mockingbird, often featured in best-ever lists. Hope you love it!

So now I'm ready for my next read. What's it to be?

message 128: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Pixiegirl, A Choice of Catastrophes is excellent non-fiction. Took me awhile to read as it's not light! But I'm glad that I did and I thank you for the rec.

Renata, I see Before the Dawn: Recovering the Lost History of Our Ancestors on your shelf. It covers an area of interest to me, so I'd love to hear what you think of it!

Next person, please, yet again, try to find something light and neither too long nor too short from my 'sony or android' shelf. I've got to work through my ebooks! https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

message 129: by Cheryl (new)

message 130: by Katie (last edited May 10, 2022 01:46AM) (new)

Katie (katieeeeee) | 33 comments hi! for you, i picked Time Travelling with a Hamster by Ross Welford
i haven't read it--though now i'm thinking about it--but i think it fits your criteria pretty well.

to whoever chooses for me, please pick something from my tbr-soon shelf that's not too long

message 131: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Katie, the juvenile time travel novel was pretty good. A little longer and for a slightly older audience than David Walliams books, which it reminded me of. (For example Gangsta Granny.) But def. for kids and the young-at-heart; if you don't normally choose kids' books I don't recommend it.

Katie, I recommend Anne Frank's Diary of a Young Girl for you. But I'm taking the liberty of recommending the graphic novel instead of the classic book that is taught in schools. I found it to be even more effective than the original. Don't get me wrong, it's important to read the original, but the edition with artwork makes an amazing impact. Anne Frank's Diary: The Graphic Adaptation

I now need someone to pick for me something off my Currently Reading shelf. I'm embarrassed by how "miscellaneous" that has gotten!

message 132: by Miriam (new)

Miriam (riareadstoomuch) | 216 comments Cheryl, for you I chose Boy in the Tower. It sounds really interesting, I guess I'll give it a try one day, too ;)

To the next one chosing for me: please take one off my physical-tbr, but none of the classics, please.

Thanks

Cheryl, thanks for recommending Before the Dawn: Recovering the Lost History of Our Ancestors. Unfortunately, it was a slug to read, interesting but not entertaining. If you like lots of data, stats and footnotes, then it might be OK.

Tiffany, for you I highly recommend Water for Elephants. I loved it!

Looking forward to my next read. What's it to be, dear readers?

message 141: by Tony (new)

Tony (flintflash) | 48 comments Renata, for you I chose Lonesome Dove Lonesome Dove (Lonesome Dove #1) by Larry McMurtry by Larry McMurtry

It's been on my radar for a while, and I enjoy a good western for an easy Summer read.

For me, if the next person could choose my next read from my "Ready To Be Read" list. Thanks! :)

Estefanía | 188 comments Tony, for you I chose Watership Down by Richard Adams. It's what I would call a rite of passage.

Leslie Ann, thank you. Rosemary's Baby was quite mortifying.

Estefania - I would like to recommend for your next read, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I listened to the audiobook version and really enjoyed the story.

For my next read please pick from my Paperback Bookshelf TBR:

message 144: by Estefanía (new)

Estefanía | 188 comments JoJo_theDoDo, thank you. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo was hard to put down and also help with the Calendar Challenge.

Also, I would like to recomend Frankenstein: The 1818 Text. It's a classic and one never gets to see it adapted well. However, some reimaginings are good as their own thing.

Thank you for recommending Frankenstein. Initially it was a slow read for me, but I found it interesting how much different the book was from any of the movie adaptations that I had seen. The story really gives you quite a bit to think about.

I am ready for my next read, please pick from my Paperback Bookshelf:

message 146: by Estefanía (last edited Jul 14, 2022 05:06PM) (new)

Estefanía | 188 comments Okay, I think I will keep you in science fiction with A Wrinkle in Time. It's a fast read and will make anybody fuzzy inside. Sorry, it's the only other book besides Beloved and Jane Eyre I can vouch for. And, I think you might want a break from the horrors of at least one book.

I will be waiting for your recommendation.

Thanks for your recommendation! For you I pick The Queen's Gambit I read this one previously for a challenge and it was an interesting read. I definitely think I would read more by this author.

message 148: by JoJo_theDodo (new)

JoJo_theDodo I completed reading the recommendation of A Wrinkle in Time and really enjoyed the story. I had seen the movie before with my family, but I had not read the book before. I liked the book even more than the movie.

I am ready for my next read and I am trying to get through all my paperbacks on my bookshelves so please pick Paperback-TBR list:

message 149: by Cheryl (last edited Jul 20, 2022 01:42PM) (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I coulda sworn someone recommended to me Boy in the Tower. Whoever it was, I owe them thanks, it was very entertaining and thought-provoking, and definitely not just for children.

Next person please pick for me from my sony or android shelf, my ebooks: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list.... It'd be super helpful if you could pick something between 100 and 200 pages.

JoJo, you probably should get Matilda off your list. It'll be quick and fun. ;)

message 150: by Pixiegirl105 (new)

Pixiegirl105 | 64 comments Finished The Lovely Bones. I like books like that, but now need to just have something that isn't so heavy.

Cheryl,

I looked in your link and it only goes to 92 pages. So I'm choosing from the ending pages around there. I love anthologies (and now adding this to my TBR. facepalm lol) because it leads to new authors. I hope you might do the same in this one:
Edge of Infinity
