We were yelling at the cat, but she didn't seem to care. :(
Wow... this thread is like an emotional rollercoaster. lol Definitely not a fun thing to see on your walk, Peggy. Even worse, Jayme. That is just gross and horrible to see.
Rus, you are probably correct. I bet it was a fox. I'm sorry you learned that info through personal experience, but you do have the best stories and a great presentation. I agree you should write a book!
Great to have you back, Pragya. Congrats on opening your own practice!
I had no idea why it was so dark out this morning when I woke up. It wasn't until I was reading Facebook, that I learned it was DST. Personally, I would prefer to scrap it all together. But then, where I live, it stays light in the summer till the wee hours. Maybe if I lived further south, it would have an impact.
We had a referendum with the last municipal election in the summer. The referendum was provincial. It was worded to keep permanent DST and it was rejected. I think if they had asked to keep permanent standard time, it would have been accepted. As it is, it stays dark here till 9:00 in the morning and it's dark again at 4:00 in December. I would hate daylight only between 10:00 to 5:00. Ugh!
I don't mind it, but wouldn't mind scrapping it either, although preferably to winter time, because otherwise in winter it will be dark until 10am or something. It's nice to have the long daylight in summer, but that one hour isn't really necessary.I think also health wise it would be best (at least that's what scientists say), but I think many people are opposed to it just because it's 'winter' time.
I think it also has to be a European wide thing, it would be very inconvenient if evert country randomly did their own thing.
Has anyone else experienced lately that GR duplicates your book when you change it from tbr or any other shelf to 'currently reading'? So annoying..
I don't really care if it is winter or summer time. I just want them to keep one. I'd even be happy if they split it down the middle. lol Honestly, having natural light from either 10-5 or 9-4 doesn't really make much difference in my life. It's still the same number of hours (not enough!). There are too many health issues and accidents with each time change and no real reason to keep it except for preference. I understand wanting light earlier or later, but the system is outdated and unnecessary.
I love daylight savings, just to be different. I actively look forward to it every year, and count down to it. I do not and never will need more sunlight at 4-5am. But at 8-9pm it's perfect.

Oh, now I'm curious. What if they kept daylight savings and never went back? Would you be good with that or do you like the change?

Pragya wrote: "After working my a** off the last year and half, I quit my job end of Feb and now trying to find a routine for my private practice. And now that I finally have time to breathe, I am slowly finding ..."Well done Pragya! It will be good to "see" you a bit more often :-)
May I ask what field you're working in?
Kristie wrote: "I wish they'd stop now. Adjust to daylight savings and just keep it there."I'm with you Kristie. I want them to stop messing around with time.
Rusalka wrote: "Congrats on starting your own practice, Pragya!! That is MASSIVE news and so exciting!"Thank you so much, Rusalka! It was a difficult decision to quit my job but I will make the most of it. :D
I am especially liking that first time in my life, I actually have weekends off! In the hospital industry, you work mon-sat. I still can't take sat off because more clients that day but that means no more Monday blues because I am taking Mondays off. It's good to be your own boss. Hahaha.

Margo wrote: "Pragya wrote: "After working my a** off the last year and half, I quit my job end of Feb and now trying to find a routine for my private practice. And now that I finally have time to breathe, I am ..."Thank you, Margo. I am a clinical psychologist.
Pragya: This is great. Congrats, Scary but it sounds like it was a good move. Peggy: yikes. Not what you expect taking walk.
Daylight saving time: I am in the let's stop this. This morning was a mess. Meeting with people in a country that does not change time is not fun. Meetings move around earlier or later depending on who (where) did it and a lot of schedule conflicts ensued. Painfull.
Thanks, Esther.Daylight savings is so confusing both for people who undergo it and those who don't. I missed an hour of one of my seminars last year because I didn't realise the change.
Sorry, been a bit all over the place here. I don't mind it in winter, although I would like the longer evening personally though. But in summer, the sun is up at 6am and sets at 9pm. If we stayed on that time, then the sun would only come up at 8am and would set at 6pm. I can see that actually being really hard for people getting children up in the morning.
Where as I dislike getting out of work in the dark, but it's really only for 6 weeks a year and it doesn't effect me much. Nothing like some of you who only have 5 hours or so of sunlight per day.
I see this is almost a moot discussion today in the US after your Senate vote on getting rid of the time change.
I actually didn't know they were voting on it when I was discussing it here. The Senate voted unanimously to leave us in daylight savings time starting next year. They don't want to mess up any schedules for airlines and such by making the change immediate. The House still needs to vote on it, then Biden will need to sign off on it to make the change.
How is everyone today? I've had a lot going on lately and I had a dream last night that I was about to be hit and killed by a giant Ferris wheel in outer space... I'm sure that would be a great dream to have analyzed. lol
That sounds like something Douglas Adams would have written, Kristie. My dream last night was a direct result of the book I'm reading - turning people and animals into evil beings by tainting their blood.
When I woke up my husband this morning he complained because in his dream he was just about to bite a "tortita negra", (which is an Argentinean traditional pastry). "Am I not better than any dream?", was my defense... It worked but only partially...
Funny story. Every March we get a letter addressing a raise and a possible bonus. These are usually applied in the friday at the end of the month. This letter is definitely a template and people really do not paid attention. They adjusted my salary a few months ago, so no raise for me. Fair enough. But no one thought to remove that paragraph from the letter. So I had a statement that they were please to confirm my raise of $0.00 and that it would be effective on April 1st. I never thought not having a raise would make me laugh that much.
Oh! Congrats on your $0.00 raise, Esther! That should buy you a lot. lol You'd think they would catch that!

Well, the sun is shining here as we enjoy the second day of our 2 day holiday for Paddys day(s)! This is a one off holiday to cheer us all up after covid (little did our gov know when this was decided that it would take more than than an extra day off to raise spirits). For the first time I can remember the parades didn't get rained on!!! Most of them were lead by Ukrainian refugees so many a tear was shed.
Anyway, from next year we will have a new bank holiday to mark Brigids day on February 1st.
Oh, that's excellent, Margo. It rained heavily here yesterday, so no celebrations for us. Honestly, it's been a pretty crap week. I didn't even make our traditional corned beef and cabbage yesterday.
Actually, something was happening near our house yesterday and there was so much smoke that I couldn't even see the road at all coming home. I had to pull over and wait for Craig to walk out to the car and walk me home so that I didn't drive off the road! I still have no idea what happened. I ended up getting home really late, so no dinner at all for me, never mind corned beef.
Fortunately, today is a new day and the start of the weekend. The sun is shining and I am ready for it.
I have spent a busy morning getting ready for some major storms that are supposed to hit our area later this afternoon. I can deal with the thunderstorms, but the tornado threat is never easy to deal with. I have all my storm supplies ready and my last load of wash is drying in case we lose electricity. Most importantly, I have my books gathered to help me through the storm. I also have plenty of tea, coffee and chocolate. Now, I just have to corral my husband. LOL!
Kristie, how strange! Did the smoke smell like anything?Sharon, I hope it is not as bad as forecasted. Charge all your devices!

Charged and ready. Only made that mistake once!
Thanks Kristie and I’m doing good Kristie and oh ok Kristie and oh that’s not a good dream Kristie and lol your funny Kristie lol
It was really crazy. At first I thought it was a heavy fog, but then I could smell that it had that burning smell and my eyes and throat were dry and scratchy by the time I got out of it, so definitely smoke. I never did find out where it came from and it was just in a short section of road. This whole week has been crazy like that. I feel like I keep telling my friends things that they just 'won't believe.' lol
