Here, you can buy 1-ply or 2-ply, quilted, etc. All of those can affect the overall size of the roll.
No, good thinking Peggy but we buy different brands each time based on what's cheap. It seems to be an industry wide conspiracy 😒
Janice wrote: "Here, you can buy 1-ply or 2-ply, quilted, etc. All of those can affect the overall size of the roll."That's not it either Janice, we always end up with same 4 or 5 brands. In telling folks, since the pandemic began the diameters of toilet rolls have shrunk!!! Maybe it's some kind of payback for us all clearing the shelves of them in the early days *paranoid glance over shoulder*
lol, Margo. Maybe they're trying to 'spread the wealth' by giving each person slightly less in each roll. 😆
I have been buying the same brand, same package, at the same store, placed in same cupboard, for 20 years (hmmm, maybe I'm a creature of habit), and the rolls haven't changed size. I think in a couple moments of emergency I have bought other brands and they are totally different in size and paper quality though. Even my same brand but different packaging are different diameters. I just thought they were different lengths though.
And I have noticed that Charmin is very fluffy paper and the rolls disappear very fast. So they look like a lot but I don't think they are.
That's what I think Kristie, everything is getting smaller except the bills! Look at the size of chocolate bars compared to 10 years ago. Every time a product is repackaged it shrinks AND costs more. They seem to think we'll be so distracted by the pretty package that we won't notice the size 😉@Dawn, we don't have that brand here. Our most popular brand is Andrex and that is definitely shrinking. It's a British product so it could be a brexit casualty.
We have so many gaps on our supermarket shelves since Brexit. Between border issues and supply chain problems it's a nightmare. We're so interconnected with the UK in terms of trade that the split has led to many shortages. OK, maybe I can't blame brexit f9r my loo rolls getting smaller but sure has impacted on what's going into my shopping bag!
We've been hit by storm eunice. It's the worst one we've had in 30 years they say. Lots of homes without power, property damage and injuries. One death reported in Ireland. I guess it's minor compared to the worldwide picture but still scary.Hope Sarah's alright in her little boat.
Janice wrote: "Maybe the diameter of the cardboard inner roll was changed."Hmm, that's a possibility. No way to check it out though.
It's been giving us trouble too Margo (the storm, not the toilet rolls ;-)). I don't think loss of power anywhere, but lots of damage to buildings and 4 people died.
Margo wrote: "Completely random change of subject: has anyone else noticed that toilet rolls are getting smaller? I keep mine in the same drawer in bathroom as always - used to hold 18 (3 x 3 x 2), now holds 22...."There's actually a term for it called "shrinkflation" in economics - it is used mostly with regards to food and beverages though. I've noticed cracker boxes have become smaller.
Margo wrote: "...Hope Sarah's alright in her little boat. "I've been thinking about Sarah too. Last I heard she had everything all tucked away and tied down as much as possible and was as prepared as she can be for the storm. Hope she's doing ok.
Hey everyone - I just feel like letting out a grief that I have been trying to suppress over the last week so I could still do my job and be happy kindergarten teacher and do parent teacher conferences but my school had a 12 year old commit suicide this week. He hadn't been one of my students - and I can't even imagine how much worse it would feel if he had been - but our whole school has just been rocked with grief and being a mom who has dealt with suicide (resuscitated thankfully) and a teacher who holds so many kids in my heart I am just not feeling ok this last week but have been shoving it down and furiously shoving other stories into my ears via audiobooks to shut my brain up and shut my feelings down so I could do my job :) but now that I have a second to sit I am just too sad.
Oh, Katrisa. I'm so sorry. That's just heartbreaking. Even though he wasn't one of your students he was still part of your school community. So sad that he felt he had no other options and so young. Hugs to you.
Oh, Katrisa, I'm so sorry. The case made it to the news and I read about it a couple of days ago. I knew you teach in Utah but it never occurred to me that it could be the same school. It is natural and reasonable to be sad. Such a terrible thing. A big, big hug.
ya, it's made me feel so much more sympathy for people whose tragedies make the media. Even though we have had the unwavering support of the family, social media has been horrible to our school and we are just trying to grieve. It is so horrible to have everyone with no actual stake in our tragedy weigh in while we are still reeling
Oh, Katrisa! My heart goes out to you, the family of the student, and to your school community. Such a tragedy! Big hugs!
That is awful. Suicide in general is terrible but at 12.....It is too bad that any media has to be involved, must make it so much worse, when it is already so heartbreaking.
I sincerely wish you and your school community and the family get to grieve without too much extra drama.
Oh Katrisa. I am so very sorry to hear. Losing a life at such a young age is going to rock a community, no matter the reason. But that one is so very hard to comprehend. I hope you and the rest of the community have lots of support, and people are kind and caring, to help you process, grieve, and heal in time. Thinking of you *hugs*
I missed the toilet paper mysteries! I am a bad person to ask from Aus point of view (although very much have noticed it from everything else!! So glad there is an economic theory for it, not just Rus yelling "BACK IN MY DAY!!") as my toilet paper has not changed for years except for holiday wrapping.I get my toilet paper in bulk from Who Gives a Crap. Which are twice as long (or more) than normal toilet paper rolls. And give 50% of their profits to toilets and water sanitation products around the world to ensure everyone has safe water!
48 rolls preordered turning up on the doorstep every few months was a godsend in Covid madness
Looked and is definitely available in Europe https://uk.whogivesacrap.org/collecti...
USA https://us.whogivesacrap.org/pages/sh...
Canada https://ca.whogivesacrap.org/
Aussie kids doing well it seems, now accessible all around the world.
If you like really soft toilet paper, go bamboo. But I get the basic and it does the job. Check it out :D

So sad Katrisa. To think that a 12-year-old feels there is no other way out of her problems/depression/ desolation. While I’m here, on the subject of dying - my brother (71 years old) lost his excruciating battle with cancer last weekend. Cancer is a stinker!
Katrisa wrote: "Hey everyone - I just feel like letting out a grief that I have been trying to suppress over the last week so I could still do my job and be happy kindergarten teacher and do parent teacher confere..."Oh Katrisa, that is so sad. I have some experience with youth suicide but none as young as 12. That will take some time to get over as a community, I hope your school is getting the supports it needs.
Oh, Katrisa, I'm so sorry to hear that and so young...Giving you big hugs.@Shirley: cancer is just awful...My thoughts are with you and your family.
Oh Shirley, I am so very sorry to hear. Thinking of you and your family. 100% agree, cancer can get in the bin. I am not a fan, I've lost a lot of family members to that jerk, and it really isn't welcome anymore.
Massive hugs
And yes, very much free lancing for toilet paper company sales now!! Nah, good, socially aware, local company that is trying to do some good over profits, and I'm all for encouraging that.
Not to mention the subscription service saved my literal butt a few times over lockdowns. First time was March 2020 when there was no toilet paper in the entire city (my local IGA was selling rolls at $3 each!!) and 48 rolls turned up on my doorstep. However the postman wedged the parcel in some how between the doorstep and the woodpile and we were literally locked in our house by toilet paper. The irony was too great.
Has anyone here got a Samsung Galaxy S21? Regular one, not plus or ultra. What are your experiences with battery life?

Not t..."Ok you’ve got me in! Heading off to the website now to subscribe to toilet paper deliveries. No more standing in front of empty shelves wondering at the peculiarities of human beings.

Shirley, I'm sorry to hear about your brother. Cancer really does stink.
Yikes! The rain here has been relentless. It has been bucketing down all night and doesn’t look like stopping. We are not in the flooded areas thankfully but we’re staying home. Great weather for reading.
Something is going on with Goodreads Saar The Book Owl and oh that stinks Saar The Book Owl and I didn’t know that you have a horse Saar The Book Owl and oh that’s cool Jorge and welcome back Jorge and I’m very for both of your losses Katrisa and Shirley and I’m ready for spring and summer Shirley

Stay safe, and hope you're up on a hill!!
Not really complaining. The rain is beautiful. It's softer now and is very soothing. But not for all the people who are flooded.
