Jenn | 3029 comments No kidding Rusalka, those Dr’s really need to take it for a spin, and start thinking outside the box lol

Of course some of us could be dangerous when we hit the streets again as we search for the button to drop a banana peel, or fire a shell . . . 😳

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments We have some sewage ventilation pipes along a couple of our highways here (zoning laws mean you can't build residential areas close to highways, which allow things like this to happen away from houses) which look just like Mario pipes.

Some genius graffiti artist kept painting them green and putting cardboard cutouts of Mario going down a pipe or a Piranha Plant on them.

The gov was very quick to pull these down but it really did your head in sometimes driving down the roads at 100 and doing a massive double take, then worrying about someone shooting a mushroom at you.

message 503: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 3029 comments OMG that is awesome Rusalka 🤣 we just have tailings ponds with stick figures wearing rain gear paddling little rafts - very dull

message 504: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments haha that is amazing Rusalka. Yeah I'd definitely do a double-take too.

I've had a quiet week this week which has been nice, given me chance to process the impending changes and chill out a bit. I went to my friends for dinner on Thursday and we played board games. I'm a little bit obsessed with them at the moment, solo and multiplayer. They totally consume me when I play, sort of what reading used to do for me. I seem to have the focus for the games but still not for the reading. I manage a few pages here and there but just never make any progress. I'm hoping with all the changes, I can ditch the non-fiction work books and maybe get back into reading fiction again, starting with some fluff. I miss chatting books with you all. I think challenges are a long way off but the odd book here and there would be good.

I'll keep you posted on the job interview. I've not been to one for a while so I've been doing some prep today and my cousin is going to help me with it tomorrow on zoom which is good. It's been so long since I went for an interview.

Janice (jamasc) | 59883 comments They have a simulator car here that I “drove” the other day. The OT said I was the only person to adjust the mirrors when I got in. Needles to say, it handles very differently than a real car but I stayed on the road, had no accidents, and didn’t run into any of the obstacles.

I’m counting down the days to Friday when I get discharged.

Then I’ll have better access to GoodReads instead of this ridiculous app.

Janice (jamasc) | 59883 comments So nice that you had a quiet week Sarah. Board games are great. I’ve been playing various games on my iPad. Good luck with your interview.

message 507: by Anusha (new)

Anusha | 195 comments Congrats on the successful drive, Janice! Hoping to see you back in action soon. 🥳

I agree, the app sucks. Recently when I was on vacation, I wanted to make a post with links. I had to log in via phone browser and change from Mobile to Desktop version. Not very convenient.

message 508: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19136 comments Rus, I would love to see those Mario pipes when driving! I love that. Some people are so creative. lol

Janice, I think adjusting the mirrors should be the first part of the test. You should have gotten bonus points for that!

message 514: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments I had my job interview yesterday. I had to role play an intervention. I hate role play lol. I really wasn't expecting to have to do that, although I'm pleased I didn't know in advance as I'd have worried about it. They didn't ask me any the questions I'd prepared. They asked some tricky questions about target driven environment and cross conflicts between the service and the GPs, and those are situations I've never been in before. I learned a lot from the interview and know what other things I can prepare for future ones. I think it went reasonably well but I'm not expecting to get the job. I wish my first interview in 14 years had been for a job that I wasn't that bothered about but this one seemed really interesting. If I'm successful, I'll hear by next Wednesday so fingers crossed.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Fingers crossed Sarah!

On jobs: I've been on 50% sick leave for the past 1.5 weeks because apparently I'm in the early stages of a burn out. It was on advice of my GP. I had a meeting with a company physician (is this a thing?) today and she advises to stick with the 50% for at least 3-4 more weeks and then meet again to see how it goes.

message 516: by Jayme, Moderator (new)

Jayme | 4518 comments Sorry that you are experiencing burn out, Peggy. But I find it encouraging that the medical field and your company recognize it and have an action plan for your well-being. I don't think we are there yet in the states.

message 517: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments Peggy - Excellent that your company has a physician. Here i think the most they have are occupational health practitioners?! It's good that you have the option to be on 50% sick leave. Hopefully it will have the desired effect and you'll start to feel less overwhelmed.

message 518: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments I got the job!!!!!! I'm very excited. I start 30th May officially but the organisation has some funding for additional hours so I'll be going in for 20hrs before then for some training so that I can hit the ground running which is excellent. This is not something they are usually able to offer so I'm very grateful. It's 4 days so I will still be able to see some online clients and comfortable carry out the other hypnosis related commitments that I have. The best combo. So I'll have some much-needed routine, money and stability. Can't believe I got the job - first application I sent off and first interview that I've done in 14 years!!!

message 519: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19136 comments Fingers crossed for you, Sarah.

I'm glad your company and medical team are understanding and supportive, Peggy. That will make a huge difference in helping with your burnout recovery. I hope the temporary 50% work time works for you.

message 522: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments And thanks all :) I'm grateful I work for an organization that takes these things seriously and really cares about its people. Unfortunately I'm not the first or the only within my department, so they've had lots of experience ;-)

message 523: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Sarah, congrats! So happy for you!

Peggy, I'm sorry you are not feeling well, but relieved to know you are using the resources you have to take care of yourself. Summer vacations are coming soon, so you at least will not have to teach and if I remember correctly you have a trip planned so hopefully all of that will help you get a deserved rest.

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments Congratulations Sarah! That is very exciting. Also, the less interviews the better in my opinion, they are way too stressful.

message 528: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments Sucks that you are on stress leave Peggy but I am jealous that you have a workplace that has resources to help with that.

message 529: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments That's terrific news Sarah! One obstacle out in Project GOTC! And a major obstacle too! Be proud of yourself.

It'd good to hear your employer is so accommodating, Peggy. In my last job there was access to mental health counseling, but I don't recall anyone ever using it. Come to think of it, I can remember some who would have benefited from a session or two. It's good to take a step back and reassess sometimes.

@Peggy: knowing what the problem is and seeking help must be a relief for you. You've got a good employer to take into account.

when I'm on Goodreads, I'm getting logged off automatically at some moments. Haven't got this problem before. It started the day before yesterday. So, I need to log in frequently.

message 534: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I have that sometimes too Saar, but not now. It always fixes itself quickly. Hope it will for you too.

message 535: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Sarah, congrats on the job!

Peggy, sorry to hear you're on stress leave. There's a lot of it about right now. Pete has been out for a weeks. His company don't facilitate half time sick leave but they're very good about stress related issues. The company doctor is great. A number of people he works with have been suffering burn out which doesn't reflect well on the organisation but I feel like a lot of it has been brought on by non work issues like covid. And straight after that we have war in Europe with the related increase in cost of living and fuel crisis. It's a lot to deal with. Add to that work projects going wrong and time line pressures and people feel at the brink of disaster. We are having a mental health here.

I hope the measures you have wisely taken work for you Peggy and that you feel better soon *hugs*

Yes, I'm not sure what happened. I have to log in a lot now.

message 539: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Margo, I'm sorry to hear Pete is struggling with stress. It has certainly been a difficult couple of years. I really hope the weeks off help and he can recovery.

message 540: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments thanks Sandra. It's been a tough time for sure. He's very worried about his dad who has shingles in his optic nerve which is very dangerous not to mention painful.

I'm sitting in the dentists waiting room right now waiting for my root canal!

message 541: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59883 comments I'm so happy for you Sarah! All the best with your new job. :)

I'm home! The hospital does their weekly meeting every Tuesday and then the doctor does his rounds. The doc came in and said, "Your son is coming on Friday, right? Well we can't wait till then. We need your bed. We'll discharge you probably to a hotel tomorrow and you can wait for him there." I said, "What? You're kicking me out?" Several texts later, Alan said, "I'm coming to get you tomorrow." As soon as I was dressed and packed yesterday morning I was formally discharged and sent to the tv room with my stuff to wait for my son. I think I have whiplash as to how quick they punted me out.

Anyway, I'm home. I had my first evening alone last night and I managed just fine.

It's going to take me a while to catch up on everything.
