There's a sale on Audible right now and there is a book called Haunted House. It almost sounds like Haunting of Hill House.

Oh no... another sale! lol That one does sound interesting. It looks like the sale is on for the whole month, so I'll keep it in mind.
Janice - I just found this about that book: HAUNTED HOUSE is a sequel to the novels AFRAID, TRAPPED, and ENDURANCE. The survivors from those thrillers are all together, and put through a new kind of hell. Also included is Dr. Frank Belgium, from ORIGIN.
All characters have back stories. In the case of HAUNTED HOUSE, these back stories exist in other books.
While HAUNTED HOUSE can be read as a stand alone, and may be the first Kilborn book read by a lot of people, if a reader enjoys it, he/she can read more about these characters in different novels. And fans of these other novels will enjoy seeing familiar characters show up again in a new novel.
- from J.A. Konrath's Blog "A Newbies Guide to Publishing".
series is here: https://www.goodreads.com/series/1459...
Nice haul Gavin. :)Which subscription book club did you join Kristie? That book looks quite interesting.
It's called Once Upon a Bookclub. They post a hint about the upcoming book online, then they send you a box with the book and a few book related gifts. While you are reading there will be sticky notes on four of the pages that tell you to open your surprise and the surprise relates to whatever you are reading. This is my first month doing it, but looking at the past boxes was fun to see what was included.
I just got Shame: Forced into marriage, rejected by those she loved. I saw a short video of the author speaking online and thought her story was really interesting, so ordered a copy of her book.
I am really interested in the book about Olive Oatman that Sandra nominated this month. I've seen little bits about her story and would like to learn more about her. Unfortunately, the book she suggested is not available through my library and is a bit pricy here, so I decided to look for other options. I found Olive Oatman: A Life From Beginning to End. It is written by Hourly History, so it is short (Amazon says 58 pages) and it is also available through Audible for just under $5. I have it in my cart, but am waiting just incase there is another percent off sale before I have time to get to it.Hourly History has a decent list of books that look interesting. I think they would be a great way to learn a little bit about quite a few things. I hope they are well-written and there is good information in there.
I didn't know about Hourly History. It sounds like a good way of learning about something, and decide to read more about it or not. I will take a look.
I've ordered on Book Depository the following books:Madly, Deeply: The Diaries of Alan Rickman and Faith, Hope and Carnage.
Exactly, Sandra. I think they just touch the surface of each topic. If you wanted to read more in depth about it afterwards, you could probably find many books.
Saar - I'm very interested in the Alan Rickman biography. I'll be interested to see what you think of it.
Kristie wrote: "It's called Once Upon a Bookclub. They post a hint about the upcoming book online, then they send you a box with the book and a few book related gifts. While you are reading there will be sticky no..."Sounds interesting. I'll check it out.
Kristie wrote: "Saar - I'm very interested in the Alan Rickman biography. I'll be interested to see what you think of it."Me too.
@Kristie&Janice: It has been shipped from the UK to Belgium, so I think I'll get it somewhere next week. I'll let you know what my thoughts are.
So, Kristie got me interested in the Hourly History series so I took a look at it. It seems they have many books that are permanently free (some for KindleUnlimited members, and other for everyone). You can also subscribe to their email list to receive a new ebook for free every Friday. Books are usually free just for the weekend, so you have to download it as soon as possible. I subscribed but didn't get their email yet, so I can't say how well it works, but I thought other people might be interested in give it a try:https://hourlyhistory.com/how-to-read...
Ok, I received the email with the link to get 13 free books (I got a few), and 8 bargain ones ($0.99, the regular price is $2.99). FYI, these are the free books offered:
Indus Valley Civilization: A History from Beginning to End
The Crusades: A History From Beginning to End
Eleanor of Aquitaine: A Life From Beginning to End
The Industrial Revolution: A History From Beginning to End
Dietrich Bonhoeffer: A Life from Beginning to End
Civil Rights Movement: A History from Beginning to End
Mitanni Empire: A History from Beginning to End
Michelangelo Buonarroti: A Life From Beginning to End
Queen Elizabeth I: A Life From Beginning to End
Battle of Waterloo: A History From Beginning to End
Korean War: A History From Beginning to End
King George VI: A Life From Beginning to End
Sean Connery: A Life from Beginning to End
A varied bunch with biographies and specific historical events or times, form different places, from long ago and more recently in time.
I have now to read one to see how they are written.
That's excellent, Sandra! I quickly grabbed the Sean Connery one, but I am getting ready to head out so I will have to check out some of the others later. It is not an easy process to add a book to shelves anymore, so I will need a little time.
I saw one on their site that looked interesting about Celtic mythology. I'll have to look into it more when I have time.
The Celtic Mythology one is free right now. I think it is one of the permanently free, but I am not sure.

Thanks, Sandra!
I went to a huge used book store. It had four floors of books. They have a lot of rare and unique books, but those are completely out of my price range. They were fun to see though. I picked up a used paperback copy of Evvie Drake Starts Over.
It was Balwin's Book Barn in Pennsylvania (https://www.bookbarn.com). It carries "rare books, manuscripts, maps as well as fine paintings, prints, estate antiques, and other valued collectibles." A lot of the stuff was interesting, but not what I'd be buying. I picked up a few books only to find that I already owned them on Audible. Most of the used books were older, so available through the library, etc. So somehow I only ended up with one. It was a cool place to visit though. I've been going back and forth on The Good Wife of Bath. It looks really good, but it isn't the greatest deal. I will probably end up getting it anyway.
I went to a used bookstore like that. I think I was in Vegas. I was doing the Around the World in 52 books challenge, so was looking for books to fit. I think I got a couple. It was so long ago. I don't remember what city it was, but I remember the store vividly.
I picked up 3 books today on Audible - The Nurse's Secret (daily deal)
The Winners (at my sister's request)
Jasper Jones (I need for road trip)
There's a 2 for 1 sale at audible uk. I've been really good on my book buying this year so I went a little mad!The Love of my Life
Away with the Penguins
The Herd
The Appeal
Sun Damage
Everything Is Lies
Sign Here (this one wasn't in the sale but I heard a booktuber rave about and I loved the sound of it!)
Hoping that some of them will fit prompts for the 2023 challenge. Some we can start to bug Janice for clues - can't believe 2022 is nearly over.
Sorry Janice. Thinking about the December themed read kinda put the wind me so I thought I'd share the fear lol
I just bought Granny's Got a Gun because someone recommended it to me as being funny and similar to Killers of a Certain Age, which I loved. It's free on Kindle with a whisper sync less than $5I also picked up Racing the Light and Outfoxed for Craig this week and he read them both already! I'm hoping there is another Audible sale where I can get the last few Andy Carpenter books for cheap. I hate spending a bunch of credits on a series and I'm really kicking myself for not buying them all the last time we had that huge percent off sale.
I'm considering getting the Audible daily deal, Pandora's Jar: Women in the Greek Myths. It wasn't on my radar, but I listened to part of the sample and it seems interesting.
Returning to the land of the living. Updating my pile of books that have appeared over the past 6 weeks or so:Blitz
Big Little Lies
The Survivors
Sharp Ends
Even Dogs in the Wild
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe
Demon Copperhead
Tonight's Dinner 2: Even More Recipes From The Cook Up
Looks like a good pile, Rus. I've only read two of them, Big Little Lies & The Survivors, but I enjoyed them both.
I grabbed a couple new boxes from my subscription book club. I got: Mad Honey, which I already read and loved
The Love Hypothesis
Never Name the Dead
I've bought:Zij en haar kat. I bought the English translation ('She and her cat'), but it seems it isn't added to GR. Not the cover I've got.
De kat die bleef. No English translation available, but it can be translated as 'The cat who stayed'.
I've got a thing with Japanese books about cats and Japanese books in general.
I was in the neighborhood of one of the very few independent book stores left in our area yesterday, so I popped in and bought a couple of books. It's usually pretty quiet in there, but I was happy to see that they were quite busy a week before Christmas. I think I can get both of these at the library, but I really like to support them when I can. I got:
The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times - Just thought I'd like to have a copy to keep on my shelf.
When in Rome - Liked the title (we are headed to Italy for a visit in 2023) and thought it might be good, light read to carry around and not worry about needing to get it back to the library.
I got today's daily deal on Audible - Shutter. Here I go again buying books for the annual challenge.
