I bought kindle Q-Squared,Sisters of the Southern Cross, and When I Found You.Audible- The Eye of the World
My first purchase of the year was a freebie from Amazon's First Reads program. I got The Lobotomist's Wife. I really didn't want to get this one because the discussion of lobotomies in The Rose Code really disturbed me. I wanted reassurance that the MC doesn't end up a victim, or threatened to be a victim. I checked out the other books and everything paled in comparison. I kept coming back to this one. I googled all sorts of information, and finally I decided that I'm having too visceral of a reaction to ignore this book. So I "bought" it.
Oh wow... that one looks like a book where you may find yourself holding your breath at times! I haven't looked at the first reads yet. I'll have to check them out today.
My First Reads choice was Impossible To Forget. I also used an Audible credit to buy Forgiving What You Can't Forget: Discover How to Move On, Make Peace with Painful Memories, and Create a Life That's Beautiful Again.
I also looked at The Lobotomist's Wife and will probably "purchase" it. You're right, Janice. The others paled in comparison. But the subject matter (lobotomies) disturbed me too.
There were some very interesting choices with this month's offerings. I had an internal debate about wanting something that might be disturbing or wanting something light and fluffy.
I picked up The Burning Swift which was released today. It's the final installment of the Shadow Skye trilogy. I loved the previous two books.

It's official...I turned to technology and went to 'the dark side'...I bought myself a Kindle. I always said I wouldn't do that, not in a million years, and look...I'm reading The Wandering Inn: Book 1, buy it(s only available on the website, which I hate reading on a computer, and on Kindle. Well, I love the story enough that I bought a Kindle and the book, along with another book Cinnamon BunThe thing is a bit slow, but I think it's because it cost a bit under 100€ and I still need to figure it out how it works. I even can connect to Goodreads!
What I don't understand, is that, now, through a message on my Iphone, I installed the Kindle app and now I can read The Wandering Inn: Book 1 in for free on my phone, before I bought it! I can't read books on the pohine, so I bought the book.
Well, help, I think it's me, but Kindle is not easy!
Welcome to Kindle, Saar! I also hate reading on the computer. I enjoy my Kindle, but it took me a while to get used to reading on it instead of physical books. I only use mine to read, not to do anything else, so I've never noticed whether it's slow or not. Hope you end up loving it.
I'm not sure this really goes here - it's sort of the opposite of a purchase. I had a weird thing happen with my Audible account today. I still had Opal Fire downloaded to my app for some reason. Usually, I download a few upcoming books and remove them from the app as I read them. So, I went to remove Opal Fire and the option wasn't there. Instead it gave me the option of return. I thought maybe it was part of the Plus catalog and I had mistakenly thought that I had bought it so I hit return and it gave me back my credit. I never return books and had no intention of doing that. All I can figure is that either I had already removed it from the device and just thought it was still downloaded or there was a mess up in the app somehow. Either way, I removed it from my device and ended up with a credit. So, I guess I'll be purchasing something else. I'm posting in this thread as a 'purchased' credit. lol
I use the Kindle app on my iPad and iPhone so I don't know how a Kindle works. That is weird about your credit Kristie.
I thought so too. I didn't intend to return it, but I won't complain about the extra credit. Hopefully it won't cause any issues if I ever do need to return one.
Saar The Book owl wrote: "It's official...I turned to technology and went to 'the dark side'...I bought myself a Kindle. I've had numerous of them and they've all given me problems problems. I used to use them for the immersive reading function - the one where you can play the audiobook and the text is highlighted on screen in sync with the narration - allegedly!!! The damn thing never worked right. Amazon kept replacing it for me and the same fault would develop after ever system undate so eventually gave up. Theoretically a great way for dyslexics to read but I think they were just knocking them out too cheaply and too quickly
Probably work well for other 80% of the reading population though i.e. the ones with no reading problems.
Well, for now it works, but I think I'm going to buy my books through the app on my phone and read them on my Kindle. I thought it was an easy thing, but I still need to learn about it. But, I read lots on it today, haha!Maybe it was some sort of bug, Kristie?
I don't know, Saar. but, the book is no longer in my account and the credit still is, so I'm just going to leave it at that. I don't usually buy books that my library has, but one of my book club books has a long wait, so I may use the credit on that. I'm not sure yet. I may wait to see if it's a sale soon first. Either way, it's a free credit so I don't feel like it's as wasteful to use it on something my library owns.
My Kindle is super easy. I set it up in my Amazon account. Whenever I buy a Kindle it is automatically sent directly to my Kindle and I just click on it and read it.
I just bought 8 books from the Audible sale. I got: How the Penguins Saved Veronica
South of the Buttonwood Tree
Missing Molly
When We Were Young & Brave
The Exiles
The Honey Bus: A Memoir of Loss, Courage and a Girl Saved by Bees
Mama's Last Hug: Animal Emotions and What They Tell Us about Ourselves
Build a Better Brain: Using Everyday Neuroscience to Train Your Brain for Motivation, Discipline, Courage, and Mental Sharpness
I've had 3 Kindles (still have 2 of them) and never had much of a problem. My original was just old but was still working when I traded it in to as part of a deal on my latest Paperwhite version. I set them up through Amazon, too, Kristie. I used to buy a lot of books but now I borrow them through my library, Libby or Kindle Unlimited. Just click, download and there it is. But my Kindle is only for the books, no other bells and whistles so maybe that's why I don't have problems,
Yeah, I think they just don't do what it says on the tin for so called immersive reading. Not a problem for most people.

Woot! Nice haul Kristie.
I snagged one book from the sale last night, just before the sale closed. I got The Other People and it wasn't until I was cataloguing my purchase and putting down what was on the cover, that I realized it had headlights!! Bonus.
For once I buy a book because I really like the author, and find it fits a task instead of buying a book because if fits a task.
I had that one in my cart because it is in my wishlist and I ended up not getting it. I just wasn't feeling it. Didn't realize it would fit a task. I'll have to go check which sites I have put aside to see if I have that one.
They do. Hopefully, it's a good one; I hate when I miss paying less. Fortunately, it's for badge two and not badge one, so I have a little time. Having to read the badges in order will benefit me here again. :) I like this new rule.
I had it on my Goodreads wishlist since it came out, and then I axed a lot of the books because my shelf was over 1500 at the end of 2021. It was still on my Audible wishlist and when it came up in the sale, I picked it up. I'll have to get brutal with my Audible wishlist too. That might be a task for this weekend.
Audible has a 2 for 1 deal and I spent a credit on The Road Trip and The Sun Is Also a StarAlready I have more audiobooks than I can keep up with.
Haha, welcome to the club Peggy ;-)I indulged too. I got The Liars' Gospel for myself, Caught and One In Three for mum and Another Time, Another Place for Pete. Wasn't I kind?
I ended up getting The Lobotomist's Wife from Kindle First and buying today's Audible daily deal, The Riviera House.Audible is running a promotion where you earn a coupon for using your credits, so I'll likely pick up a few other books over the next couple of days.
I'm looking at the sale right now. Two that I'm debating on are The Last House on Needless Street
The Good Sister
I got them both. I think I'll stop with the 2 credits/$5 coupon offer. I now have only 7 credits to last till July. (As if I won't buy more between now and then.)
I have a few in my cart, but most are pre-orders. I sent an email to Audible to confirm they are included because I did not get the email notification. I also figured I could have them look at why I'm not getting the emails (I also didn't get the yearly stats for 2021) and that I'd have a written confirmation this way. It seems like I always have to contact them to get my coupons lately and I don't want anyone to be able to say pre-orders weren't included after the fact. In my cart I have:
Daisy Darker
The Diamond Eye
Quicksilver
An Impossible Impostor - Craig is reading this series
The Book of Cold Cases
The Night Shift
The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot - my library has this one, so I may skip it
All of these, except the one the library has, are pre-orders. The only problem I have with pre-orders is that I never know which ones my library will get. They may end up getting all them, then it will be a waste of money for me. However, I am interested in all of them so at least I don't have to wait on the library and have time limits, etc. I'm not really sure which I'll get yet. It seems like everything I'm interested in right now is already at my library or a pre-order.
They have always accepted pre-orders in the credit purchases, but it's good to get confirmation. Have you asked them why your email isn't working? I presume you have the options set to receive all emails, but maybe they have a glitch on their system that doesn't recognize it.
That was part of the email I sent. I have the sales box checked to receive emails. I confirmed that before I emailed them. I don't know why I'm not getting them, but I'm guessing it's a glitch on their end. Honestly, the pre-orders were listed on the sale page so I knew they were included, but I just wanted it confirmed since I didn't get the email and always have to contact them for my coupons now. Not often, but every once in a while you get someone that doesn't know what they're doing, so I wanted that as a backup.
I ended up switching out some of the books in my cart. I got:The Diamond Eye
Quicksilver
An Impossible Impostor
Master Class
The Lightkeeper's Daughters
The Last Tiara
I'm not sure those were all my best options because I've seen a couple in previous sales, but I didn't want to go with all preorders that my library may get either. I know my library doesn't have the last three. The top three are preorders, but I was likely to buy at least two regardless and my library likely won't get all of them. I'll wait on the others (Daisy Darker, The Book of Cold Cases, & The Night Shift) to see what my library does first.
Oh, you're right! lol I didn't even notice that. I just checked my library because Quicksilver came out today and they have the book, but not the audio.
Edit: GR says today, but it is actually the 25th. It must have been pushed back. My library has the book 'on order'.
I grabbed a few from the Audible sale:The Invisible Husband of Frick Island
The Wife and the Widow
The Chanel Sisters
The Photograph
Reel of Fortune
I found quite a few books this week between Chirp and the Audible sale. From chirp I gotMaster of Poisons
The Empress of Salt and Fortune
When the Tiger Came Down the Mountain
The Telling Time
Sisters of Shadow
And from the Audible sale I got
The Ancestor
How Iceland Changed the World: The Big History of a Small Island (thought of the island task)
If Cats Disappeared from the World
The Sisters of the Winter Wood
The Lonely Hearts Hotel
Winter Tide
you've all given me book buying bug (well, I have to blame someone LOL). I spent 2 credits last night on:Aristotle and Dante Dive into the Waters of the World and
The Wonder Boy of Whistle Stop
In the audible UK sale I picked up:
The Wolf Den and
The Burning
So pretty restrained in comparison ;-p
