Janice (jamasc) | 60023 comments That will keep you occupied, Rusalka.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19219 comments If anyone likes cooking and/or wants to eat more veggies, I highly highly recommend getting your hands on In Praise of Veg.

She's a primary school teacher/Masterchef contestant/food educator who makes things really simple to understand and fun (would be perfect for kids) and the food is delicious.

We've been getting a farmers box each week straight from farms within 300km radius from us this winter, and it's been my first point of call every time I pull something out of the box and go "What on earth is/do I do with this?" (Looking at you Swedes and Sorrel.)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11293 comments I just bought Mahabharata and Ramayana as a complement of the "India" chapter of Our Oriental Heritage

message 205: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11663 comments I've been relapsing on my book buying habits - I'd be embarrassed to admit how many I've picked up so far this year so I'll just mention the two I bought today:

Seveneves and
Different Seasons

I haven't read the King book in over 30 years, hope it works as well on audio.

message 206: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19219 comments Hah! I want to know about ALL of them :P

message 207: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60023 comments LOL! Me too. :)

message 208: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11293 comments Lol. You'd never be judged here, Margo!

message 209: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60023 comments I didn't actually purchase them. Strawberry Shortcake Murder was free through Amazon Prime reading, and The Night Stalker was free becuase of a coupon I had with Amazon.

In order to get that coupon, I had to spend $10 on ebooks throught Amazon, and I got Sea of Tranquility.

message 210: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60023 comments I picked up today's daily deal at Audible The Great Witch of Brittany.

I recently read Sea of Tranquility. An interesting book. I’d like to know what you think of it when you’ve finished it.

message 212: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4482 comments I've been wanting to read Sea of Tranquility. The library wait is quite long so I'm trying to decide if I should wait or just use an audible credit

message 213: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60023 comments I bought Joanne Fluke's Lake Eden Cookbook. It was one of Kindle's daily deals. I have never before bought a cookbook on an ebook, but I figured for $1.99, why not? Now if only I can get the energy back to bake. There is a Tapioca Cheesecake recipe that I must try.

message 214: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4547 comments When I first started reading the Hannah Swenson books, I’d copy the recipes I wanted to try onto index cards. I even made a few. I don’t remember if the best lemon bars I’ve ever had is one of hers, but if it is, you should definitely make them. The bottom layer is is a shortbread. Absolutely delicious!!
I saw that the cookbook is available through kindle unlimited so I may have to check it out soon.

message 215: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60023 comments The recipe books contains all the recipes from book 1 to 10 (Carrot Cake Murder plus new ones. I will check for the lemon bars. I've had some that sound similar and they were really good.

message 216: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11663 comments I picked up the audible UK DD today, it was a real blast from the past - Along Came a Spider. The first Alex Cross book!

message 217: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4482 comments The hubs and I just finished Shifting Shadows and it reminded us how much we like the Mercy Thompson books, so we decided to try and collect them on Audible so we bought the first three of the series.

I was over visiting my daughter last night and she told me that she had purchased Sea of Tranquility from. I cannot listen to it until she finishes though. ;o)

Kristie | 19232 comments I picked up a few short stories from the Audible sale. I don't tend to like too many short stories, but these were only $1 each (except for Brat, which is not a short story and was $3) and I had interest in each of them for various reasons.

Brat: An '80s Story
The Bone Box
A Cat Was Involved
Tail of Vengeance
Little Lies
The Academy
Ricochet Joe
Evidence of the Affair
No-Nonsense Buddhism for Beginners
Small Things Like These

The total was just $12 and I had a $7 coupon, so for $5 I got a handful of books that are just the right length to listen to in the car when Craig and I have somewhere to drive.

message 220: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4482 comments Thanks Kristie! I didn't realize there was a sale and These Small Things is on my TBR because it's is on the Booker Prize long list that came out today. I'm going to see what else there is!

message 221: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4482 comments Lol, Small Things Like These. Stupid GR app

message 222: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19232 comments Glad you saw it, Katrisa! Today is the last day. Someone recommended that one. I had never heard of it before.

message 223: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4482 comments So I ended up getting these from the Audible sale in addition to Small Things Like These
The Thief of Always
Elevation
Tin Man
Citizen: An American Lyric - which I own in hard copy and I love - but it's poetry so I'd love to hear it spoken
The Witch of Duva
and I picked up the daily deal A Thousand Steps into Night also.

And from chirp I got In the Time of the Butterflies
The Deep
Sorrowland and
The Hummingbirds' Gift: Wonder, Beauty, and Renewal on Wings

message 224: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I have several of your books on my TBR list Katrisa. I listened to The Deep when it first came out. Can’t wait to hear what you think of it.

I like to listen to poetry too but don’t do it enough these days.

message 225: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4482 comments Cherie I loved The Deep. I read it on paper once and listened to it from the library. But it's one I wanted to own because I would reread it again and it was inexpensive.

Janice (jamasc) | 60023 comments I picked up a Kindle book, Mischief in Mudbug. I need it for my roadtrip and I will start it tonight.

I'll pick up a couple of books in the current "use your credits" sale. I'm just not sure which books I'll be getting. I have a couple of days to decide.

message 227: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19232 comments I have Mischief in Mudbug coming up for my road trip too, Janice.

I have a few books in my cart for the "use your credits" sale too. The timing is good for me as I just received my yearly credits. I'll probably grab a few off my wishlist that aren't available through my library (or unlimited or whispersync).

message 228: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60023 comments I picked up A Dress of Violet Taffeta and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow so should get a $5.00 coupon in a couple of weeks.

A Dress of Violet Taffeta is the story of Lucy Duff Gordon who was a dressmaker and survived the Titanic. One time that we went to Vegas, there was an exhibition of the Titanic. There were real life replicas of articles as well as some of the steel hull. When we entered, we were given cards with the name of a person who was on the Titanic. The cards gave some information about the person we drew - where they lived, occupation, etc and whether they survived or not. We were to assume that identity during the tour through. I was Lucy Duff Gordon. I've been fascinated with her ever since.

message 229: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19232 comments I used 6 credits:

What's Done in Darkness
The Lullaby Man
Bury the Lead
The Secret Life of Albert Entwistle
After We Were Stolen
Fairy Tale (preorder)

I feel like I got a good variety of genres - mystery/thriller, historical fiction, contemporary fiction/romance, fantasy... I should have something to read no matter what mood I'm in. :)

All of these were books that I want to read and don't have available elsewhere. My library will probably get Fairy Tale, but it's one I'd like to have anyway. I should be getting a $20 coupon to make it even sweeter.

I debated about getting What's Done in Darkness. I still have time to get it, and one other book for a $10 coupon. I shall have to think on that a bit.

message 231: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19232 comments I debated on that one because my library has a physical copy, but I liked the audio sample so I went for it.

message 232: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60023 comments I think I'll just hold on to my credits for now. I'm sure there will be other sales throughout the year.

Janice - you may enjoy The Dressmaker. It is a HF account based on Gordon, I think. I liked it.

I read it and it was more about Lucy Duff-Gordon's employee than about her. I just read over my review and it wasn't a glowing one. I likely picked that one up because of it's connection with the Titanic. I hope A Dress of Violet Taffeta is a better story.

I enjoyed the series on Netflix as well. I was reading the reviews for the book on Goodreads and people were saying that they enjoyed the books better. Thankfully the book series is 7 books. I was expecting it to be 20+ judging from the tv series.

message 243: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60023 comments I purchased today's Daily Deal Only a Monster. I used my coupon from the last sale, so it's actually a freebie.

message 244: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

And from chirp I got
Oz: The Complete Collection for $5!
The Hungry Moon and
Herland

message 247: by Janice, Moderator (last edited Aug 30, 2022 06:51AM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60023 comments I used a couple of credits and got:

The Island of Missing Trees
The Harbor. I realized after I had purchased it, that is #4 in a series. Oops. Oh well mysteries aren't as rigid in series. The backstory will be missing, but hopefully I can glean what happened in the earlier books.

ETA - I looked at the blurbs for the previous books and they each focus on different characters, with the location being the common factor. It should be fine.

message 248: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4482 comments I loved The Island of Missing Trees! one of my favorites of the year!

message 249: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11663 comments Just picked up The Ink Black Heart, the latest Cormorant Strike. Happy day :-D

message 250: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19232 comments I have that on my wishlist, Margo, but I pre-ordered the last one and haven't had a chance to read it yet. It's so long!
