Vagabond Treehouse (2023) [Beware of Chicken 3 - December 4th]

Variety and re-reads are my go-to... most of the time...
Lately, it feels like super-rigid planning of 30+ books a month has served me well, somehow... we'll see how long it lasts... sometimes, I just need to cut back on my reading for awhile, and split my time on other pursuits more, for awhile... I never stop reading entirely (usually)... I think it's easier to maintain if I never completely stop, even if I slow down for awhile... once you quit something, it's easier to put it off awhile longer (as evinced by the games I haven't played in a few years and think about revisiting frequently, but don't actually revisit)...

I feel like, the last few years, I've hit the ground running in January to April, and tend to slump a bit over the summer... but going strong, so far...

I'm not in a slump exactly but books are taking me longer than I think they should to read. Not sure what's up. I hope the new Ilona Andrews release next month helps bump me out of it since I usually blow through their books in a couple days.

I think Choko's weekly BRs have been part of my secret weapon this year... In Death has proven to be a great weekly cleanser... and Dark Hunter has been as well, most of the time...
And I already have plans to do similar next year with Animorphs...

The newer version of the Audible App (which force you to load and see recommendations before you can even access lyour library and books, when opening the app), the number of books I have, and the amount of re-reads I've been doing...
Have all conspired to reach a point where I think I need to make a bunch of Collections to more easily pare down my library into manageable chunks when I want to download something I've read before... it's easy to shrink my library to the 10% or so I haven't read yet, but when I have to skim through everything, it takes forever and has to pause a bit to load, every dozen books or so, and I have hundreds... things feel much easier to manage in my iTunes collection stored on my hard drive...
Luckily, it looks like I can build collections on the website, and it'll sync to my devices...

You can do it from the website, too... that's what I plan to do, since I think you can do searches to help with it...
I made one for Marla Mason last year, when I bought all the audiobooks I was missing...

Probably will group books by BR month. ^_^
Some of the BR re-reads I've done recently, I've remembered surprisingly little details of the books... I can't tell if I wasn't paying attention when I read the book and nothing sunk into my brain, or if I read the books around 2020, and memories faded post-covid...

How did I miss a Ninth House BR?

How did I miss a Ninth House BR?"
It has it's upsides & downsides... Ninth House was an impromptu BR inside the Hell Bent thread, when most people struggled to read Hell Bent after so many years waiting for it to come out after Ninth House... some people did a re-read, I did a re-read, I still need to read Hell Bent (I was never going to have time to read it, back in February, but thought I might in April, after reading Ninth House in March)

If you're still up for it, Emily, I'd like to schedule that Cozy Grimdark Fantasy Sandwich BR for November, Emily...
Bookshops & Bonedust is scheduled for November 14th...
I'd like to schedule Son of the Poison Rose for November 7th...
And that leaves a cozy book to schedule for October 31st... I was thinking Under the Whispering Door, but you've already read it... any ideas?...

We decided if we were gonna force ourself to read the next Kagen the Damned book, we were gonna need cozy reads before and after...
I love Jonathan Maberry... but he really tortures his characters / readers...
Kagen the Damned is like Joe Ledger x1000... it's actually technically set on Earth, thousands of years in the future, apparently... before Son of the Poison Rose even came out, there was rumors/confirmation that Nicodemus was gonna appear in the story somewhere... magic and Cthulhu cults are all over the story...

I don't blame you... I had a hard time finished Kagen... and alot of bad things happen to Joe in Rage... or in the final chapter, anyway... after all the stuff that already happened in the original series...
There's a reason Joe splintered and created a new darker persona to deal with it all, in Relentless...
I remember being kinda numb after finishing Rage... I couldn't believe what Maberry just did...

Beware of Chicken which I was planning to get anyway and A Deadly Education which I see a lot of you guys really enjoyed :)

@Iain--Klune just came out with a new book--In the Lives of Puppets... I don't know anything about it though, but I bet it's cozy.
Sounds like Pinocchio retelling with a bit of human murder?... I dunno...
I picked up Beware of Chicken and Vigor Mortis: Volume 1... there's a fair bit of nice stuff on the sale, but I've read most of it before, or wasn't that interested (or it was mid-series and I wasn't sure I wanted to start the series)...

What are we doing in the October 31st slot tho?

The puppets one?... we can give it a shot, if you guys want...
For some reason I've been wary of it, just reading the blurb... and then I was just doublechecking on the coziness, and see that Diana Stormblessed rated it 2 stars a few days ago, as a fan of other Klune books we've all read, and now THAT has me MORE worried :D

I'm really looking forward to Under the Whispering Door, if you're willing to schedule a re-read...
I'm also interested in Beware of Chicken BR, altho it doesn't have to be part of the Poison Rose sandwich deal...
Diana Stormblessed has mostly been doing the Sun Eater books with us, I think?... and the Sanderson Secret Projects... looks like they tried Percy Jackson, and a couple Dark Hunter books... they might have quit Sun Eater at #3, tho... or struggling with #4... just checked, and it looks like they're trying to get a copy of book 4... maybe a library checkout?... I dunno...

Only 28 reviews behind, after doing another chunk... so far I haven't done too bad about keeping up with 2023 reviews... still haven't done much about catching up on 2022... I want to finish doing decent 2023 reviews in the next day or so, then I'm looking at taking the lazy route with 2022, and just giving everything a rating and no shelving/details, then just editing the dates to 2022, to try and avoid the captcha issues that slow me down...
Goodreads just isn't very friendly to people like me that read 100s of books a year and are terrible about keeping up with my recordkeeping on a daily/weekly/monthly basis...

We can probably do Puppets in November, as well... I'm sure it'll be nominated for the GR Awards...

Who wants to read Dragon Heist with me?... new book from Alexander C. Kane (Orlando People & Andrea Vernon)...
Sounds like fun... I'll probably listen to it this week, after I clear Locklands and maybe Dragon & Slave and another BR...

Dragon Heist's synopsis sounds great. I doubt I'll be able to join but am looking forward to what you all think. If you guys like it, I'll grab it later this year.
Sorry I don't want to wait longer... I've already read everything else published by this author, so I'm always on the lookout for new releases, from this author and several others...

Tonari no Emily wrote: "Oh heck yes I'll just squeeze that right in. I was thinking about Orlando People the other day.. I want another book in that series!"
If you read Dade County Death Cruise, you know it ended on a cliffhanger that NEEDS to be explored in a future book... that was what I was looking for when I stumbled on to Dragon Heist...
