Julian, I am so sorry! I know how those slumps go.... Usually, when I get into one of them, the only way for me to push through is by comfort reading a favorite book or series. It helps me remember why I love reading so much... But don't pressure yourself. We are always here and you can just pop up to chat even without reading:) *hugs*

Lately, it feels like super-rigid planning of 30+ books a month has served me well, somehow... we'll see how long it lasts... sometimes, I just need to cut back on my reading for awhile, and split my time on other pursuits more, for awhile... I never stop reading entirely (usually)... I think it's easier to maintain if I never completely stop, even if I slow down for awhile... once you quit something, it's easier to put it off awhile longer (as evinced by the games I haven't played in a few years and think about revisiting frequently, but don't actually revisit)...
Reading slumps are the worst. Bound to happen with the sheer volume of books most people in here read. Ive avoided one this year so far, but have mostly been reading Malayan with a few other sprinkled in so having the goal of finally finishing this series has helped me. Its cost me to miss a ton of BRs though that I wanted to get in.

I'm not in a slump exactly but books are taking me longer than I think they should to read. Not sure what's up. I hope the new Ilona Andrews release next month helps bump me out of it since I usually blow through their books in a couple days.
Hmm... interesting thinking... I *think* I'll read more when I have vacation time free to and can read... but I think I might actually read more when I'm busy with work, because I NEED it as a break.... while when I'm on vacation, reading breaks are necessary, and sometimes are like making myself sit down and read....

Amen! I feel exactly the same way. Those have been a really good to-go-to when I am not feeling any other books... Very nice pick-me-ups:)))
@Iain - I'm not sure if you saw the news... Ilona Andrews is going to release the audio for Magic Tides and Magic Claims as a book bundle on or around June 13th.

Have all conspired to reach a point where I think I need to make a bunch of Collections to more easily pare down my library into manageable chunks when I want to download something I've read before... it's easy to shrink my library to the 10% or so I haven't read yet, but when I have to skim through everything, it takes forever and has to pause a bit to load, every dozen books or so, and I have hundreds... things feel much easier to manage in my iTunes collection stored on my hard drive...
Luckily, it looks like I can build collections on the website, and it'll sync to my devices...
I had no idea you could build collections within the app. Let us know how it goes?

I made one for Marla Mason last year, when I bought all the audiobooks I was missing...
Collections, eh? That's good to know... will have to try it out...Probably will group books by BR month. ^_^

It has it's upsides & downsides... Ninth House was an impromptu BR inside the Hell Bent thread, when most people struggled to read Hell Bent after so many years waiting for it to come out after Ninth House... some people did a re-read, I did a re-read, I still need to read Hell Bent (I was never going to have time to read it, back in February, but thought I might in April, after reading Ninth House in March)

And that leaves a cozy book to schedule for October 31st... I was thinking Under the Whispering Door, but you've already read it... any ideas?...

We decided if we were gonna force ourself to read the next Kagen the Damned book, we were gonna need cozy reads before and after...
I love Jonathan Maberry... but he really tortures his characters / readers...
Kagen the Damned is like Joe Ledger x1000... it's actually technically set on Earth, thousands of years in the future, apparently... before Son of the Poison Rose even came out, there was rumors/confirmation that Nicodemus was gonna appear in the story somewhere... magic and Cthulhu cults are all over the story...
Yeah he does. It's the reason I haven't finished Joe Ledger yet and I have Kagen unread on my kindle still. When the pandemic hit I just couldn't do Grimdark any more. I still kinda can't.
I see Audible is having a 2 for 1 sale...

I remember being kinda numb after finishing Rage... I couldn't believe what Maberry just did...
I plan to finish out the original Joe Ledger series and then wait and see on the second series.
Ok, I picked up two books in the sale....Beware of Chicken which I was planning to get anyway and A Deadly Education which I see a lot of you guys really enjoyed :)

I sense a Beware of Chicken BR in our future--and I'm in! I think I need official BR threads though.... I keep stacking up the Vagabond ones I want to read and not finding time for them...@Iain--Klune just came out with a new book--In the Lives of Puppets... I don't know anything about it though, but I bet it's cozy.

I picked up Beware of Chicken and Vigor Mortis: Volume 1... there's a fair bit of nice stuff on the sale, but I've read most of it before, or wasn't that interested (or it was mid-series and I wasn't sure I wanted to start the series)...
I'm excited to read that Klune book! Honestly I'll give any of his books a try after The House in the Cerulean Sea and Under the Whispering Door
I'd join if y'all do a puppets (and beware of chicken) cozy sandwich BRs... as long as they have real threads. ^^

lol sorry looks like I didn't notice the end bit. Maybe the other TJ Klune? Reviews say its heartwarming in the same vein as his other two with found family which seems to be the best comfort reads :)

For some reason I've been wary of it, just reading the blurb... and then I was just doublechecking on the coziness, and see that Diana Stormblessed rated it 2 stars a few days ago, as a fan of other Klune books we've all read, and now THAT has me MORE worried :D

I'm also interested in Beware of Chicken BR, altho it doesn't have to be part of the Poison Rose sandwich deal...
Diana Stormblessed has mostly been doing the Sun Eater books with us, I think?... and the Sanderson Secret Projects... looks like they tried Percy Jackson, and a couple Dark Hunter books... they might have quit Sun Eater at #3, tho... or struggling with #4... just checked, and it looks like they're trying to get a copy of book 4... maybe a library checkout?... I dunno...
Whispering Door was cute, though not quite up to Cerulean Sea level for me... very curious about Puppets now... though going in with low expectations isn't necessarily a bad thing...

Goodreads just isn't very friendly to people like me that read 100s of books a year and are terrible about keeping up with my recordkeeping on a daily/weekly/monthly basis...

If you read Dade County Death Cruise, you know it ended on a cliffhanger that NEEDS to be explored in a future book... that was what I was looking for when I stumbled on to Dragon Heist...
