I'd be up for a re-read/re-listen, if we get the gang together... checking my book page, only Choko read it with me last time :D
KU + Whispersync is $7.49 for audio...

So if y'all do end up reading it... I'll uh... squeeze it in 😅

Been slow-reading, the last few days... mini-break maybe...
Was reading the last book I got from the Book Fairy the FIRST time... I wasn't gelling with it completely... I feel like the author crammed a series worth of plot into a single 3rd book because he wasn't very successful, and didn't want to let down what fans he DID have... the ending seemed open to future stories... hasn't really published anything since, tho... seems to have some short fiction on his website, and does some D&D Actual Play stuff, but the fiction doesn't seem to be listed on Goodreads...
Gonna start WIN now...

Also the stupid time change threw me off! ><
You take a couple days off, to read whatever you feel like, and all of a sudden you're 10 books behind...

It's a combination of forgetting to add things to my list (Crystal Calamity 2 & The Siege 2 by KJ Parker) and continuing to sign up for stuff (Singing Hills Cycle 1-3, Dragon and Thief)... and the fact I only had like a 2 day gap and took 3-4 days off...
So, yesterday I read In Death 17.5, Singing Hills Cycle 2, and Laundry Files 3, but still have:
Crystal Calamity 2
Singing Hills Cycle 3
In Death 18
Dark Hunter 4
Malazan 3
Sun Eater 2.6
Illuminations (ebook)
Laundry Files 2.6 (ebook)
Dresden Files 14
Lady Sherlock 7
Heartstrikers 3
That's including BRs that start today, but luckily there's a 5 day lull until my next BR, and only a handful of BRs the rest of the month...
EDIT: Abandoning Chronicles of Amber & Jack Nightingale have cleared my year a bit, tho... next month I only have 18 BRs listed at the moment... maybe 25ish including any I'm forgetting... 2 Mystery Book Club books, 4 Dark Hunter & 4 In Death books, a few short stories, and the rest...

Things have been getting eerily quiet... Choko hasn't commented anywhere in 5 days (after being sick for a week)... Soo's pretty quiet...
I'd say Brian's quiet, but he's always quiet, except when he isn't :D

I’m on the mend now and need to catch up. I also started The Last of Us on HBOMax with wife and been trying to finish that series.

She also posted that the second one is in edits and then will finish off Mary Goodcrow. I don't know why but I had a hard time getting excited over her western. How are you liking it so far?

Missed the news/announcement... I don't have an RSS feed going or anything, for book news... just kinda learn stuff on a whim when I search...
New DFZ books is great, even if it sounds like the new series/trilogy is adding random new lore to the world with Fae/changeling creatures... (I get a bit wary when UF series slowly become kitchen sink series... but I trust Rachel Aaron, so far)...
Crystal Calamity has been a bit rough... only read the first book so far, and it took awhile to get into the story... wasn't quite as fun/funny as other series... probably because the time period wasn't historically great for women/minorities/Native Americans... the ending was pretty good, tho, and Nirkatze's comments about book 2 have been pretty positive... will be starting the 2nd book myself, shortly...

My husband and I just finished that! I absolutely loved it! We started playing the second game afterwards so I've been a bit MIA lately haha

Haha wouldn't blame you! It's suuuuuper heavy on story, almost like watching the show interspersed with some video-game action
Brian wrote: "I’d like to play the game but have an Xbox and not play Station. Makes me want to get one just to play it"
It's coming to Steam/PC next week... at least the first game...

@Brian--wishing you good health! Also fingers crossed that you'll only catch everything for the next year or two, and then you'll be immune to everything. ^_^
re: Crystal Calamity--I generally agree with Iain--I don't like it as much as the Heartstrikers so far (am very excited for new DFZ!), but I do think the second entry was stronger than the first. However, I like most things, so I'm not sure I'm such a good litmus test...
Speaking of things I didn't like though--@Narilka--I really liked Quarter Share, but I hated Half Share. Would be interested still in seeing if the third book is better though. Also curious to hear what you think Narilka! I'm not sure if Quarter Share or Legends & Lattes ended up teaching me more about Coffee. Probably Quarter Share.

Brian wrote: "I’ve never played a game on PC @Iain. Only Xbox I’d like it probably but always intimidated me. Xbox I just put the game in and wham I’m ready to go."
PC, I just plug the XBox for PC controller in, and wham I'm ready to go ;) (assuming the game has controller support on PC... if not, and the controls are simple enough, I turn on Joy2Key, a PC program that can map keyboard buttons to game controllers and accomplish the same thing, basically)...

I don't have an RSS feed or anything either. I just randomly check author blogs as the whim strikes and saw it :)

Ut oh. I'll have to check out your review about Half Share later. I'm enjoying Quarter Share so far but not to the level of Wizard's Butler. I still need to read Legends & Lattes :)

The gist: book 2 went a bit overboard with the romantic fantasy fulfillment... nothing really happens on-ship (altho some characters want to, they have rules)... part of the weirdness is the author is like 50 yr old dude, main character is barely 18, and alot of the love interests are 30-40 maybe?... it's been a little while now...
Most of that happens near the end of the book, tho... the first 75% is pretty focused on the coffee, training, and trading of it all, still...
I'm planning to continue with books 3+, but been swamped, as previously stated...

Felt like the whole unbelievable self-insertion masturbatory sex-fantasy stuff started a lot earlier than 75% in...

you probably right... I just cram it there in hindsight...
There was the whole plotline with the belt buckles, as well... and the brawny chick... and I forget what else...

I finally almost cleared my TBR for the month... all that's left:
Equoid & Illuminations from last month (ebooks)...
The Battle of Medicine Rocks & Memories of Ice that I'm late on...
Demon in White this week...
Survivor In Death & Seize the Night next week...
Still alot of pages, tho, at 3580...

That's a lot! lol. good problem to have

eyebook:
The Blackest Heart
The Broken Eye
Demon in White
Audio:
Last Argument of Kings
All of Us Villains
The Demon King
Ship of Destiny
In Death 17.5-20

But I'm not doing too bad now... I finally finished Howling Dark I need to go post in there still...
Still have
Demon in White and I want to fit in Black Sun too so I can read the sequel, and In Death 19 and 20!
....And Memories of Ice, but that's an eye-read which will take me a bit... I have some time off coming up though so fingers crossed I feel like eye-reading lol
I’ve been trying to ignore the glut of new BRs being added… pretend the 2nd half of the year will be more freeform… before I inevitably join some at the last minute…

Plus, I'm not sure... would it be better to reread Kushiel's Dart to try to catch all the references? Or better to let it lie and thus not potentially be annoyed by overlap or inconsistencies? Decisions, decisions...
POV-swapped re-tellings feel like a cash-grab for struggling authors that haven't been as successful with followup series in new IPs...
I kinda feel like that's why Hollows started back up... dunno what to say about Black Jewels, since Others felt pretty successful...
But Twilight did it, I think 50 Shades of Grey did it... I guess even Seanan McGuire did it with that 4th Newsflesh book, but it wasn't exactly a retelling...
I know Jacqueline Carey has written a few trilogies since Kushiel universe, but not too many, and nowhere near as successful...

It's the end of the month, and for once I'm all caught up... 6hrs left on Memories of Ice, and Illuminations is moldering in my ebook app...
3x audio speed has been going so well, lately, I'm tempted to speed up more, in the few apps that allow it...
But now, the burning question is: do I keep zoom zoom reading, or take this chance to try and catch up on spreadsheet stuff and Goodreads Reviews... the perennial question :D

I've been trying to develop my multitasking skill--grading papers and audiobooking at the same time... sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't...

I CAN, sometimes... but mostly with re-reads...

Weather be crazy... Stormed rushed in hard and fast... Took out a nearby tree, landed on shed and power line across the street and caught fire... Lucky the power cutting out put out the fire (or rain did)... Called 911... Seen 3 different fire trucks... Seem to just be monitoring until power company shows up?
8hrs without power... Back just in time to get ready for work...
I woke up a number of times through the night... Saw them working on it for at least 3hrs... Trying to cut down tree quietly at midnight...
There were 2000 people without power to start ... Down to 100 now according to outage map...
