Have any of your friends started Wandering Inn?

I don't think most have checked out Wandering Inn. I know that one at least tried it but she doesn't read too much to begin with (1-3 books a year) so I don't know if the slow start will keep her hooked

This book is supposedly what caused him to eventually write Animal Farm and 1984 which are pretty famous pieces of literature.
Oh and was reading more of the hot zone. I didn't realize there were so many different strands of ebola and it's interesting seeing the differences between them. This book is as close as I ever want to get to ebola lol

Legendary Moonlight Sculptor
Here's a link to the translation: https://www.lightnovelpub.com/novel/t...
Lee Hyun is young man with inherited troubles. When his parents died, he was only a teen in high school. The family was in debt to mob like loan sharks. His grandmother is sick & he has a little sister. The loan sharks tried to strong arm him into becoming an indebted worker for them. He quit high school, moved his little family, and worked his butt off at under the counter jobs. It wasn't legal for him to work full time jobs and get that pay. So, years of that. Finally, he's of age and can get a real job.
That's where the story starts. XD
He ends up doing unconventional (for gaming) stuff and it's fun to see it unfold. He's socially awkward (mostly due to how he had to adjust to his circumstances), knows nothing about girls and driven to take care of his grandma & sister.
I don't think the translations were clear, but the reason why he played MMORPG was because it was his one outlet for down time and he was able to vent his frustrations and anger by fighting monsters in game.

I need some fiction / easy reads after the past few books have been nonfiction and Fahrenheit 451 (that book is a mess, really hard to follow)

Mapan is a trader. Weed asked him if he wants to go to a good spot to watch the battle. Mapan knew that there's a catch to this. He asked a few questions, but not the right one. And then the catch happened.
I totally did NOT expect that! ROLF!
#teamweed Hahahaha

Ghosts of Tomorrow
Smoke and Stone
Black Stone Heart
Also, I'm in for Battle Royale too

I'm sure there will be other takers.
Finally continuing with Gray Man 9… cutting it closer and closer on catching up before 11 comes out midFeb

I'm excited about the thriller releases too.
#9 is getting into alot of horrifying streamlined sex trafficking stuff... feels kinda inspired by the Epstein/Maxwell stuff... Ken Cage is a piece of work...

New Releases:
05/10 - Kagen the Damned
08/09 - The Art of Prophecy
02/15 - Moon Witch, Spider King
07/19 - Upgrade
06/07 - Farilane
06/21 - Locklands
03/15 - The Kaiju Preservation Society
05/03 - Book of Night

Doh! I need to join the BR for Crowbones. I thought it was for the Black Jewels series and didn't look at it twice cause I'm not happy with where she's going with that one. Which is LAME cause I loved that series!
ETA: Added more books! Looking at Audible's Upcoming Releases.
Starting Gray Man has delayed Lot Lands abit, but shouldn't be too long... I'll do Free Bastards right after Gray Man... then my schedule should be open to make some reading decisions of my own again :D
Maybe get on Finn Fancy Necromancy or Trouble With Peace...

Did you see how several of us have downloaded Hoopla? Julian did it and then I went to try it. Followed by Emily.
We're like book lemmings! LOL

*nudge nudge* https://www.lightnovelpub.com/novel/t...

And lol doesn't Kramer narrate most of Sanderson's books? He's one of the few narrators I know of, but is also kind of boring in my opinion as a narrator.

I saw you do it... how many credits you get each month?... it seems to vary by library network...
And I know... my schedule is pretty open again, just been a pretty scheduled couple of weeks... and I keep trying to make it worse, turning everything into a Buddy Read :D
work reading it down a bit, but rebounding... home reading is way up and has been compensating so far, this year...

I can borrow 10 at a time. 21 days loan period. Same as my library.
Kramer: I used to try and ignore the fact that Kramer is an inconsistent narrator and just listen to the audiobooks because I wanted to read the story.
Forcing myself to listen to the Wheel of Time killed any desire for me to put up with Kramer's narration. He actually did a good job on a few books, but I don't remember which ones. Probably a Sanderson book.
Only my opinion: Kramer doesn't seem to be a good professional. One that works on the book with the same quality regardless if he likes or dislikes a story. All narrators have a run where they're not as good as normal, but it's not often. Kramer is one of those mood narrators that can do a good job for a story he likes and a poor job on those he doesn't. It comes across in the narration. Bah!
Wheel of Time re-read ended up being self inflicted torture.

Speaking of WoT I feel like I could never audiobook it (new verb lol) since it would ruin my pronunciation head canon for some characters.
It wasn't too bad...
I'm more forgiving of Kramer... he IS slow as molasses, tho... speeding up is necessary...
I don't mind learning i mispronounced things... it's when a narrator screws up a real word that it can throw me out of the story... sometimes it's a real pronunciation, too, just not the common US pronunciation vs UK/world... other times they really do screw up...

The Hoopla UI is a recent change... I liked the old UI better, but the tradeoff for better speed controls and higher cap are worth it...

I stalled on WoT on #10. Audiobook has been a great way to re-read and finish series for me. So, I knuckled down and tried to do that with WoT.
Narration in the first few books were not as bad, but it gets progressively worse. Both Reading and Kramer would accent the story in a manner that spotlighted negative aspects or made them seem trite/negative.
Their tone of voice were so off putting that I got mad at the narration. I've read the books. The first 7, I read several times. I'm not new to the series and have firm ideas about the characters & plot in my head. So, I was dismayed by the insidious way that their negative narration made the story turn into one I didn't really recognize or enjoy.
Only upside to that whole ordeal was the way it made Malazan better in comparison. I was reading both series in 2020.
Because of the TV show, they had one of the actresses narrate WoT #1. I'm hoping she'll redo all of them. Then I can re-read by audio. XD
I only get 7 Hoopla credits / month... used to be 5...
I think it's 21 days for everyone, down to the second :D

I don't think my library has hoopla, so sad... I use Libby, in the US and in Australia since I've managed to finagle a library card in both places! Ha! Everywhere I've lived, I've gotten a library card.

Check out the first two posts on page 1. We chat about what we're reading in general and other stuff. =)
Hoopla: I let it do a location search, clicked on one of the listed libraries, signed up for a card and get a temp card. It may only work for 30 days, but it's 30 days of a different selection.
It looked like the new library I signed up for had all of the titles my library used to have.

I usually use Libby with them, so I had no idea that I could use Hoopla too. Live and learn!

It is interesting how preferences can differ. I prefer Libby for its interface and I only use the Overdrive interface when I have no choice. I find it way easier to search and manage holds with Libby. I use three libraries, and it is a breeze to switch around.
The ebooks are automatically sent to the built-in Overdrive at my Kobo.
The audiobooks I usually listen with Libby. Works super well both on my phone and in my car.
I rarely open the Overdrive app nowadays.
Which options do you find Libby lacking that Overdrive has? I haven't used Overdrive in a while (the built-in at Kobo doesn't count since it only loads the ebook to the Kobo), so I might be missing out on something interesting.
P.S.: my comment is mostly for the phone apps. I rarely use Overdrive on my computer.

In the audiobook do they discuss much about the ebola case that happened in Washington DC?
One thing that I consider interesting is that back in undergrad I had a roommate who worked in a biology lab. I remember back then he told me that about the different virology labs and differing levels based on how dangerous a virus was. The ebook goes into details of how dangerous working in these labs can be. He's finishing his PhD this summer at UCSF which is a major medical school, I need to remember to ask him if they have a level 4 lab over there.

In Overdrive, the main menu to access libraries, bookshelf, etc is accessible at all times. It's easy to switch libraries, because a link to them show up on that menu. Setting has more control & options. When I look at the bookshelf, I can see all of my books without scrolling.
I generally have an audiobook playing and do other stuff. I remember being frustrated with Libby because it would stop playing if it wasn't the main app opened.
A lot of software interface are made with the idea of being more user friendly. Libby has a nicer look, but limited user interface vs Overdrive. I'd rather have more options & control over the nicer look. I find the way Libby is made to be user friendly to be counterintuitive. I'm sure there have been changes. I've downloaded & tried Libby about 4 times just to see what the updates may be like.

I still have the ebook! Need to make time to skim it. Tha audiobook had all of the main topics and did go over the break in DC in a summary.
Yanique is a virologist. I wonder if she would mind you asking her questions.
Gray Man #9: finally some good crazy action sequence… Coury just impersonated a bowling ball on a tether ball line with a clothesline in Croatia… when the Europol agent was to scared to climb out the window with him and got caught/kidnapped… if only she knew what he did to that model in the hotel room in France a few books back :D

..."
All my devices are Windows/Android too.
I think they might have fixed the issue you had with it stopping playing. Mine is always open at the background and it doesn't stop.
But I can completely understand your preference. I was just wondering if it what as lacking at Libby would be something I cared about. I guess not, since it is working fine for me. :)

Have you tried Storygraph? It's supposed to be a user driven recommendation book website. People are encouraged to label the books with genre/mood/type.
Example: fantasy/feel good romance/light plot
I like the idea behind Storygraph, but I don't like the interface. I can't easily see how many books are in my Read, To Read, Audiobook/etc shelves/lists.
Even GR is trying to make the interface more 'touch screen/user friendly' and I've had the Beta page open a few times. I don't like it and I opt out of trying it every single time. If the Beta becomes the new normal for book pages and GR feed page, I'll be more annoyed. lol

The only funny thing about the last book I listened to was playing it at Audible app's max speed of 3.5x. Almost sounded like chipmunks. Almost. lol
