I've really upped my game... tempting Emily with 11 Buddy Reads simultaneously :D >:D
The Penric & Desdemona Binge Read that me and Yanique setup earlier today... all to be read in February, to go with the Short Month, Short Books, Monthly challenge...
I did it to myself too, tho... I still have 20 other BRs in February...

The Wandering Inn: Book 9 - Tears of Liscor is up for pre-order on Audible... it's not been correctly linked to the Wandering Inn series, yet... but I found it with a google search (much easier since I knew the working title ahead of time, thanks to reddit/discord)...
Just pre-ordered my copy... releases April 25th... pretty much right when I guessed it would, when I heard it was recording this month... I think it's not the first to release at this time, in the last few years...

About to double-post this over in the Wandering Inn thread...

Reading tomes is tanking my reading stats, after a strong start to the year XD
Since like Saturday, I've only finished like 1 book (Judgement in Death) and 1 very short story (Mother of the Year)... I tried those other books I listed the other day, and didn't finish them...
It'll all even out when I finish stuff... I have 5hrs left on Deadhouse Gates at 2x speed (so I've read 24 of 34hr audiobook)... and 6hrs left on Empire of Silence at 2.7x speed (so I've read 10 of 26hr audiobook)...
I feel like this is going to be a year of tomes for me, at least on the new book front... between Malazan, Sun Eater, unread Wandering Inn audiobooks... I'm look at at least about 20+ tomes this year... and plenty of other books are close to counting, like the Children of Time books...

It came together fast in the February challenge thread... I tempted Emily, just by having the Penric thread appear in notifications, and she popped in and was like DAMN YOU, IAIN... :D

That... is an ongoing theme, I feel. XD

Marking this to watch when I'm not at work! :D

Good luck... the reason me & Soo are the tempters, is because we read so much, and we've already read alot of the best known stuff that we've recommended you guys to read... so we have to "prospect for gold" to find the next great book/series out there :D

There's some good artwork done for Beware of Chicken. =D

@Soo: I'm still a few Pendergast books behind... last one I read was Verses for the Dead (#18)... but I saw #21 came out the other day, as it's on the New Release bookshelves at bookstores: The Cabinet of Dr. Leng... with a title like that, I'm not surprised the Pendergast wiki confirmed it has connections all the way back to The Cabinet of Curiosities (#3), nearly the beginning of the series... apparently it's the 3rd book in a quartet... altho it seems more accurate to say it's a the 2nd book in a trilogy with connections to an early work (presumably Dr. Leng is another supernaturally long-lived character, in the same vein as Constance)...
EDIT: I just read the blurb and (view spoiler)
I've talked before (incessently) about how I'm not a fan of Chong-Ra... but this book sounds like it takes the series into guaranteed SF/Fantasy territory, and not just hinting at it... maybe that'll make the Chong-Ra more palatable?...

There is... audio for Volume 2 comes out late March... sounds like the webnovel is only on Volume 3, chapter 58, on Royal Road, so we'd be mostly caught up on the story, if we waited for that to release, and then read both of those... it's "only" 2300 pages and counting... unlike Wandering Inn, which is like 33k-37k pages and counting, based on being over 10,000,000 words...

I'm reading Vol3 on Royal Road now. That's how I'm seeing the art posts via author notes/etc. It's not bad. There's a lot of the author in the character design & that's been interesting to sorta piece together. We do write what we know, etc.
The Cabinet of Dr. Leng - Plan to listen to this soon-ish. I didn't even read the book blurb. Just looked up series I'm reading or authors on Audible & grabbed the next to on list. XD
Will post thoughts after I listen to it.
Pendergast is one of your binge series from a few years ago that I picked up, even tho I have myriad problems with Pendergast, I can't seem to help reading the books :D
The books are littered with interesting characters and mysteries... I liked the last one I read, with the new forced FBI partner Coldmoon...
What do you think of the new narrator, Jefferson Mays?... the series has had like a half-dozen narrators, but Rene Auberjonois did books 8-18, and kinda became the voice of Pendergast for me... I knew they were going to have to get a new narrator since he passed, tho... I don't even remember what the earlier narrators sounded like, at this point...

That's a good one. You'll enjoy it. Hill has his own blend of pop culture/horror blend that works well. He doesn't make characters are well layered as his dad, Stephen King, but it's pretty good.
What is Chirp?
ETA: Read my review for the book. Overall, enjoyed it. Pacing is uneven, but I got over that with the audiobook. It was a mix of listening & reading ebook for me. =D

The narrator voices are different & are good narrators. So, the changes don't bother me that much. I think there are some aspects that seem a bit annoying, but I think that's due to some of the female voices/etc.
The authors for Pendergast have lots of interests & enjoy researching all sorts of topics. Lots of history, myths, fables, etc are woven together in all of their books, but it only works in Pendergast. I've audiobooked a bunch of their books, co-authored ones & solo, and they are not good at blending the fantastical with the mundane in a solid plot. XD

Website needs a bit of help/refresher. The sale prices are nice, but it'll be not as handy to have books in more than one app for series.
Will have to download app & check it out. See what listening speeds/etc.

I was amused to read that the story idea was initially meant to be a Harem story, a Viking cultivation deal and some other stuff. But it turned into a light Xianxia, slice of life tale instead. It's pretty cozy.
Beware of Chicken Rec: Vol1 can be read/listened to as a standalone. It stops at a decent point. Vol2 is more like half of a story arc. So you will want Vol3 out if you enjoy the series & want to keep going without a break.
I'm reading Vol3 on RR right now. It'll suck when I get caught up to the latest release. That'll be soon. Then I have to write a note on the book review & forget about it for like a year. xD

Trying to decide if I want to start listening to the "new" WI audiobooks or start from the beginning & listen to the end of the latest additions. Then go back to reading Vol8 on website. XD

OMG That's an adorable WI art! I'm trying to figure out who everyone is... So far, just... (view spoiler)
That is WI right? I feel like there's so many I can't guess...

I'm gonna bet it's on the WI Wiki with the info of who everyone is! I'll put my guesses in spoiler below.
My info for the series is a bit rusty but your guesses should be right.

Going with my gut, before reading Soo's guesses, I said the same thing about #1, and totally agree about #5, given the fanart I showed in the WI thread...

oooh! I got a lot of them :D

Also, I never think of Pisces as looking like that. Though it made sense after I read Emily's guesses.

Ooh, I see the ears! I was thinking maybe the same as Emily for 0 & 1 but what is up with #1 looking like he is maybe missing an eye??? Why is #4 on fire? Very fun teaser for future episodes...
