I like that, "Minor Magics"....
I hate when sleep schedules get messed up like that... I have to wrench myself around from going to bed at 3am to getting up at 5am in two days... though I'll still probably be going to bed around three for the first week or two. Gah.

I laid down for 30-45 minutes, after saying that... thought about being tardy to work, but nah...
Anyway, yea... I really like the idea of Minor Magics... the message of the books seems to be that any talent, however small, can have big effects... pretty good message for kids...

I did a bit more research on them, and I'm not sure that they are, really... more that they fit the imprint--too dark for a regular children's story--and apparently Kingfisher was having a hard time getting them published. So she published them herself...
But they fit a theme, so I'll group them. :)

I know there's like, folders for every different challenge type.
Is it OK to just have one thread and put all your challenges in it, instead of having like five different threads to keep track of?
And if I did that, where would I put the thread?
Also thinking of just keeping using old threads from last year and adding to it... maybe even copying last years' challenge and moving it to a new reply, then continually reusing the top post...

People do all those things... I put my consolidated list (when I tried having/maintaining one) in the Individual Set Challenges folder: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
That folder is for people making up new challenges for themselves or copying ones from other groups... there's very little rules regarding challenges around here... more rules for keeping the group/folders organized, really...

It's given me a mini-book hang over lol I have no idea what I want to listen to next. Nothing seems appealing. Guess I'll give it a day or two before deciding.

One of Nathan Lowell's books Milk Run is in the audible sale right now. I'm picking it up, even though I was rather disgusted by Half Share... I might be willing to give more books in that series a try again...
Anyone have any recs/TBR pickups for this time through? Right now I have Dorothy Must Die, The Last Dragonslayer, Court of Assassins, Behind the Throne and Malice lounging in my cart, along with Milk Run...
Also, I signed up for Kobo's audiobook membership to give it a try... been looking around for other sources of audiobooks since Audible gives such a crap deal to its authors, and apparently Kobo treats them well. $9.99/mo and 1 credit/mo is cheaper than Audible's monthly plan, if not as cheap as the yearly plan.

Hey there Choko, how's it going? Sorry that I've taken so long to reply. You mentioned wanting to read Rogue Angel together? I've read the first book, and I do wanna read more, but there's a LOT of books in the series, and I'm afraid of burning out if I try to read them all, so I kinda only wanna try to read a few of em. Any suggestions on where we could go from here?

Hoopla has a bunch of the dramatized adaptations, so I'm in too!
Another week of being a good little reviewer... I set a weekly alarm, to remind myself... went off 2hrs ago while I was eating...
Also, changed the title of the thread, since it's a new year and we're caught up on St. Mary's...

@Choko: read Black Hat Bureau #3.5 on Kindle, and gonna be reading #4 & 5 in the next few days, off Hoopla... checked them out last month, so only have about another week to read them... over in the Mystery thread...

SOMETIMES that works... but on my BR tracker, every now and then it just says "failed to edit comment" and it is all gone... No pink text at that time though. I just need to get in the habit of copying everything before I post/edit... and it's still a pain to have to scroll forever down to the bottom to pick up my text and copy and refresh and paste and post GRRRR!!!
Just in a ranty mood. :p
And I copied this before posting. Yay me.
I mostly encounter it when I try to comment on a thread I left open before going to work, then come home 8-10hrs later and comment... oops...
And yea... i can see the issue with editing... i get hyper worried about saving changes while editing, anyway, because it's a huge undertaking...
When I'm doing big posts, I also drag the bottom right corner of the comment box, to expand the writing area (not sure everyone knows you can do that...

Same... I've found dragging the box to be very helpful too... and since I am continually updating my BR tracker as my go-to links page... and I like to leave threads open for books I am currently reading... (I have a whole workspace on Opera just for FBR)

I hate it when I spell "spoiler" wrong and it messes up the tags. *sigh*

How ya'll doing?
I was going to post in Wandering Inn but I decided against it. I'm not updated on anything and no idea how much time I have for GR or reading.
I got the latest WI books and plan to listen to them. Pretty sure they are still behind where I stopped in Vol8, but maybe it caught up? XD
We've been so worried about you...
I think we had Choko try and contact you on LinkedIn last summer...
GG&G has been asking about you, too... I think in the Kindle Unlimited thread...
(I'm a "half-mod" in both groups, now)... Around here, I'm a mod because of all the work I do on the spreadsheets... Yanique is a mod who does most threadmaking, now... over there at GG&G, Sonja asked me and some others to step up and take on a single task... I maintain the New Release thread over there, and make threads for New Release Book of the Month BRs (Mercy Thompson, Kate Daniels, and the tentpole releases, mainly)...

Wandering Inn: most of us have been waiting to read the newest release from November, until the next audiobook is released (it's been our thing sinice everyone caught up)... the audio is near the middle ofVolume 4 Volume 5 now, I think? (view spoiler)
The NEXT audiobook for Wandering Inn should be announced soon... I heard Andrew Parsneau was set to start recording it around now, or in the next week or so...
EDIT: corrected above... we're in volume 5 now... also just found an awesome chart on reddit, copied from discord, with all the info we need about audiobook plans:

Sorta coming out of it but it's like sorta. Missed all of ya'll though!
My roommate is all caught up with Wandering Inn. Which is weird but bound to happen when I stopped reading. lol
I dislike the new book pages. It's dumb. Makes it hard to see reviews & have to do extra steps to log books/edit/review. Meh

Any good thrillers I need to add to my list? I have 16 Audible credits I need to use up by start of March. That's when my membership renews.
Getting back into the easy series like Completionist & System Apocalypse, etc. I've set myself to be ok with disappointment. XD
Both authors are good, but I think they are branching out in a way that hurts their writing. Same deal with Michael Sullivan. Pitfalls of being an independent author/publisher/etc.

I am on my third attempt to read and complete Malazan series. On book 2 with Iain. I really enjoyed Kagen the Damned and about to read Son of the Poison Rose soon. Very dark but I enjoyed the first one.
I do have a bunch of thrillers to get to and my paperback collection as grown to out of control status. I need to focus and knock some out. lol

As for new thrillers the next Gray Man Burner is coming out in Feb and The Last Orphan as well. I think Iain and I are going to try and BR them when they release if there is time in the packed BR schedule

GG&G has kinda been dying for awhile... Sonja was feeling swamped as the only active mod... maybe/hopefully have new blood will help it live on... I'm taking care of New Releases (since it's the one thing I still chimed in on over there)... Sonja still does Pick if For Me, I think...
Meridith was brought on to take over Monthly Reading Plans & Bingo...
And Chrissy stepped up for the revamped Monthly Themes (replacing Book of the Month, which has dried up in interest)... for reading/discussing types of books, rather than specific books, and hopefully get more participation...
The book page changes are a disaster... also, some people see them and some don't... I saw them for months, then they reverted to the old page in November, and haven't come back, yet... some people that never saw them before, now do... they hide the useful stuff and expand the book cover and other stupid stuff, all in the name of mobile/app design and a shared UI on all platforms... UGH!!!

We have a HEAVY Buddy Read Schedule for 2023... I implemented a way to track it in the Buddy Read Request spreadsheet, to replace the old thread you missed having updated:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
(It's read-only, for everyone but logged in mods)...
The general 2023 plans include a bunch of stuff that would have otherwise been Vagabond thread discussions... tried to open it up to whole group...
Laundry Files, Heartstrikers, October Daye, and Sun Eater are the 3 series reads that moved to book threads... 3 are re-reads for me, and Sun Eater a ton of us picked up on sale last August...
Mystery Book Club has a bunch of New Releases coming up, including a surprise Alex Benedict book next week: Village in the Sky
This year Mystery Book Club just started Jack Nightingale paranormal mysteries (Kindle Unlimited), Verity Kent historical mysteries (Hoopla), and Manners & Monsters #3+ historical paranormal mystery (Hoopla)...
Group is also BRing a couple of other series: Chronicles of Amber, Sisters Grimm, Time Police, Choko started a weekly In Death BR and we're on book 10/11, there's talk of Rogue Angel & Five Warrior Angels, Crystal Calamity (new Rachel Aaron)...
Later in the year there's Of Blood & Bone (John Gwynne), Codex Alera, Lord of the Rings, Founders Trilogy (Foundryside)...
Basically, the group is the most active it's been in awhile...
Next month, me & Brian are planning to read 3 thrillers in 3 weeks here, mostly new releases:
Desert Star -- Bosch & Ballard -- Feb 7
The Last Orphan -- Orphan X -- Feb 14 release
Burner -- Gray Man -- Feb 21 release
As for best new reads, I/we did a bunch of Goodreads Choice Awards reads, back in November/December, and I really liked: Upgrade, The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches, Sleepwalk, Winter's Orbit, The Lost Metal, See You Yesterday, and obviously loved the Wandering Inn stuff...
Ilona Andrews also released Sweep of the Heart last month (audio a few days ago), and just released Magic Tides ebook a few days ago (about to read that)...

Clearly a bit excited to see you back... went off a typing cliff there :D
