Vagabond Treehouse (2023) [Beware of Chicken 3 - December 4th]

Haha, not to mention its more fresh in your mind... I feel like if I put too many books in between another book, I won't remember much about it but fleeting impressions...

Iain, hahaha! I soooo get it! I am two weeks behind on my work paperwork and I feel completely overwhelmed even thinking about tackling it... I was doing so good doing it every end of the day for a while, but the holidays and now I don't even want to get close to the computer... I get it! Good luck:)

Reading The Junkie Quatrain... picked it up on sale sometime this past year...
Junkie is the term for the zombies in this anthology... I'm surprised how much worldbuilding and plot is being fit into this short story collection... it's 4 short stories... but they're all connected... it's really more like 4 connected chapters...
It starts with (view spoiler)
That's pretty much a story summary of the little book (first 66%)... not your usual vague spoilers...

I picked it up, because it's Peter Clines, of Threshold and Broken Room... Ex-Heroes and a few other works are all I have left of his to read... I think Ex-Heroes is superheroes in a zombie apocalypse scenario...
This little anthology thing is interesting... I paused for awhile, and am back at it, and just finishing the 3rd section... packed with surprises... (view spoiler)

The final section felt like the most coincidental of them all... (view spoiler)
My problem with short stories is always that they're too short, and don't give enough answers...

Happy New Year everyone!!"
Grats... I have alot left to do... I added ratings to the 2022 spreadsheet yesterday, for all books from February to June... next up, I need to do all that on Goodreads... probably do that tomorrow...
Then, I still need to break up July to October into what I read each month, and toss ratings on, then add that to GR as well... then I need to record November/December somewhere in the first place... so much work...
At least the Competition Spreadsheet is live, and off my to-do list...

I still have the Arc of the Scythe to read and missed Choko's BR last year. Let me know if you want to give it a go sometime this year :)

For some reason I was mixing up Ainsly and Anwyll in my head so some things got a bit confusing there when I kept forgetting who's who... It's funny how each book has the one big sex scene with the center sister's love interest (view spoiler)

In her early years, Laurenston/Aiken wrote like 50-75% sex scenes, it seemed like... now it's like 1-10% max... rest is hilarious story... Annwyl would probably be more memorable if you'd read the Dragon Kin series... she's the star of Dragon Actually, same with alot of the dragon humor... Briech, the one with the beautiful golden hair that found Ainsley in the tree, etc... they all have books... and there's a long plotline with the Blind God & the half-dragon kids of Annwyl and half the Southlands...
I'm not sure if Isadora will (view spoiler)

Isadora (view spoiler)
I'll get Dragon Actually, eventually! January is just probably not the best time given the packed BR schedule....

Very few authors commit to queer relationships in otherwise hetero series... it drives me crazy... I'm not saying I prefer queer relationships over hetero, or anything... but if an author sets up a relationship on a slow-burn for a half dozen books, then does a 180 at the last second, it pisses me off a bit...
The worst offender, in my eyes, is Rachel and Ivy in the first 6 Hollows books... I can't remember how well the Blaylock plotline was handled in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, because the series pissed me off eventually, for myriad other reasons...
I know the Halle Pack series had some M/M shifter relationships, especially in the companion Poconos Pack series, and a 3rd series I think...
For the longest time, it seemed like Nalini Singh was avoiding Aodhan & Illium in the Guild Hunter series, but it seems she finally committed recently in Archangel's Light, book 14 of the series...

@Narilka - I read the first book in the Scythe trilogy a few weeks ago and am planning on doing book 2 probably after I finish John Gwynne's Blood and Bones series.
@Emily - I've been wanting a complete set of the wheel of time series for forever now but always held off since I own it in both ebook and audiobook format. Hoping to get all the books in hardcover eventually with the original covers rather than the new ones

I decided to start The Wizard's Butler on audio today. I'm only a half hour in and enjoying it already. Thanks for the rec Iain :)

That's great to hear... my reading is / is going to be all over the place, I think... I've signed up for so many BRs, I need to jumbled them around a bit, to make sure I'm reading the things that catch my fancy / mood, as much as possible (or I'll inevitably have to bow out of some stuff, if they're not gripping me / interesting me... we'll see)...

Havent really had that happen to me, but yeah that would piss me off too! And its not that id prefer one or the other, but i do appreciate a bit of a mix since not everyone is straight, y'know?
Havent read any of the series you mentioned besides the first Black Dagger and that one was just not for me

There was a time when I read alot of PNR and Romances, after UF started drying up... BDB was never my favorite, either... but I toughed it out for awhile... twice, actually... I gave it a second shot... but I gave up, eventually, around book 9 (back when I would binge read stuff without raking long breaks between books... binge until you lose interest, rinse, repeat...)...

The fact Amber & Grimm are so short should help... hopefully you don't bow out of the series I setup as Vagabond reads :D

Laundry files and Heartstrikers? Were there any others? Those were the ones I'm most excited about... If anything I'd bow out of Amber and Grimm (even if they're the shorties xD) okay and maybe In Death, but I'm going as long as I can lol

My husband interrupted my reading about this last night. Hope the player is ok and they figure out what happened.
Jeremy Renner is in "critical but stable condition", after a snow plow ran over his leg in the Nevada mountains (I think it was a personal use SnowCat plow, not a municipal street plow or anything)... neighbor doctor had to do a tourniquet and he was airlifted to hospital...
Somehow, in a matter of months, I've gone from being a mod of 0 groups to 2 groups... I got an email asking for help in another group I used to be more active in, and after waffling for a week (and helping without being a mod), I decided to go ahead and be a mod...
I'd call it another half-mod job :D
And I'm not really doing anything over there I didn't already do... mostly sharing my vast knowledge/spreadsheet of New Release data each year, and making a couple monthly new release threads... shouldn't be too bad... (talking about GG&G: Girls, Guns, & Grimoires)

LOL yes I did... I suppose that counts as a Vagabond BR xD
I knew I was forgetting one other one!

I'm just really hoping I'll be able to keep up with them all... I don't want to drop any!

I was a little surprised it took him so long to do so--it never hurts to humor the local superstitions, right?
Glad you're jumping in Narilka!

Iain, you make an amazing Mod!!! We are all lucky to have you!

This one is... Ainsley? Already forgot who she is. Archer? Bookish? I should probably go read some summaries of the first two. I just remember people screaming "WAR MONK!" and sister #2 doing some fun crazy necromancyish things.
Oh yeah, and weren't there like, a million jokes about Ainsley still being six, and wait, was she in the room? Did she leave? Nah, she never came in the first place, right?

Also loving that Gruff is the clan "grudge holder." Heh.

And they're talking about details from Magic Tides... sounds like they moved to Wilmington to give Conlan a normal life... and because Curran bought a fort... and is remodeling it... there's a moat... sounds like Curran and Hugh are those competitive dads in the suburbs, lol... who has the bigger/better fort/moat?...
