Found another book we should read... since I'm hyping on Rachel Aaron right now... she released her new book over the summer, and I missed it... it's on KU, and you can get audio for $7.49 with KU ebook checkout...
The Last Stand of Mary Good Crow (Crystal Calamity #1)... sounds like a weird western variant of Rachel Aaron's other series (Eli Monpress, Heartstrikers, DFZ)... 1866 Montana, a crystal mine is discovered in Montana with some sort of valuable properties... upends the world, but the mines whisper and drive men crazy / into monsters... but the MC just hears a nice singing voice... plot seems to involves exploring deeper into the mines and uncovering secrets... beginning of a series...
I constantly want to find/read more weird westerns...

Need to read The Heretic Royal when it comes out!

Fuck Yea, we do... I need to know how things play out, now that Annwyl the Bloody has shown up in the North-North-Northlands amid the Blacksmith Queen's group...

I'll rave and make the Laundry Files thread tomorrow... probably set it to start around January 29th-ish... I'll have to look at the Upcoming BR list, again...

In other Rachel Aaron news, her SF trilogy as Rachel Bach (I think this is her married name/pseudonym, and Aaron is maiden name/pseudonym?... she wrote a LitRPG with husband and they both use Bach last name)... anyway... the Paradox trilogy is finally all on audio... more impetus for me to finish it... first 2 books got audio a decade ago... 3rd book got audio last week...

I am here to see what you think of it:)))

Awww awesome! I'll report back soon. Didn't get hardly any reading in today and what I did read was my physical book.

I already read the first 2 bach audiobooks at some point... so I need to see if I remember enough to skip to the finale...
And I feel the burn of too many BRs :D
Especially when I'm not reading much on my work days at the moment... I have to go on weekend sprees to keep up, like I did last Tuesday/Wednesday with all them GR Award books...

Are the Girl Genius books on sale?... I can't check, I don't think, with everything on sale... I own them all, but it's another series I'd like to see people try... nobody ever makes time for them, and I've read them like 3-4x...
Agatha H and the Airship City
Agatha H and the Clockwork Princess
Agatha H. and the Voice of the Castle
Agatha H. and the Siege of Mechanicsburg

I think the audio is worth it... the narrator did a phenomenal job with the voices/characters/accents... it's a very multicultural Europa book... comic turned novel/audiobook... the 4 existing books cover the first story arc of the series... the 2nd story arc is still ongoing in comics (and should be the final arc, i think)...
Hoopla also seems to have the 4 ebooks and the 4th audiobook only... I assume it's because the first 3 came out close to a decade ago, and then they focused on the comic for awhile, and only recently released the 4th book, and it took another year for audio, so it's newish...
Sounds good... we probably plenty booked up through the spring... we can revisit in March/April...

Any recommendations for this sale? So far I put:
Iron Prince
Rosewater
Beyond the Empire
Optional Retirement Plan
in my cart--I had some others, but I cross checked on Hoopla and was able to delete some.

:) I thought it looked fun, and I like RC Bray's narration. Lessee, I also selected some random books by Katherine Arden, Fonda Lee, Marissa Caruso, Josiah Bancroft, Mercedes Lackey, and Pat Barker that're on my TBR. Added to that Blood of Empire and Starless, which I loved, and would be interested in rereading with audio, and giving the following a try:
The Blood Trials
Hall of Smoke
Forest of a Thousand Lanterns
I'm feeling pretty jazzed up, today... a solid new Sanderson finale will do that... I finished Lost Metal... having to sleep and work the past 18hrs was rough... now I need to find something else to read... I settled on the Toast of Time... who else but Jodi Taylor wouldn't be crushed under the weight of post-Sanderson reading malaise :D

Have you seen the new Connelly and Lee Child releases?
I still love Michael Connelly / Bosch & Ballard & the rest... but Jack Reacher is starting to feel like a joke, especially since Andrew Child basically took over...
I read the blurb for the new Reacher book and it sounded corny AF... the whole blurb was designed for the punchline of "when Jack Reacher is after you, there is No Plan B"... Ba-Dum-Tsh...

About that sale - I am not even looking this time! I refuse to! Audible took all of my money the last two times around and I think I singlehandedly financed their yearly expenses in 2022... But I will join in reading whatever you guys decide to read:)))
Connelly and Child were 2 of the authors I read in 2012ish, early in my Kindle days, before I moved to Urban Fantasy...

Because of the dark tones of the series?... the books definitely get DARK, over time...
Because of the dark tones of the series?... the books definitely get DARK, over time...

I mostly avoid Dark books... it's also why some stuff ends up stuck on my TBR forever... but some series I just love too much to abandon, even tho the subject matter is dark... mostly Maberry... the last Rogue International book and Kagen the Damned were bother super dark...
I have the same problem with Audible sales I have with all book/game sales... buying things and then never reading/playing them... the lure of the sale, and a blurb that sounds interesting in the moment... I buy too many similar books, then don't want to read them all because too similar...

I may stop Joe Ledger with the main series. Or at least let his second series build up first then make a decision. I also have Kagen in my TBR that I just can't pick up yet after scanning the BR from earlier this year.

re: Connelly & Child--I haven't read any of their books either, but I'm also not very interested... I'm not much for straight-up mysteries or thrillers. I need me a more speculative bent.
re: St. Mary's--it's parsley. It cleanses the palate after every post-book ache.

I also stopped Joe Ledger at book 2 last year, because of real life, but I would like to pick it back up eventually... It does get dark though...
so dark... you don't even know... dark stuff happens in the original series, but the end of the first book and the whole 2nd book of the sequel series cranks it up 100x... it's so bad (for Joe)...

Choko wrote: "Now, how is that even possible??? The dude already has it hard, what more could be heaped up on him?"
You asked to know... it's bad... (view spoiler)
Yea... there's a reason Soo said she didn't finish the book the first time, I think... I had trouble with it myself, but finished...

Just found that Amazon has a 3rd Rogue Team International book listed for August 2023...
Cave 13: A Joe Ledger and Rogue Team International Novel... (view spoiler)

I paused at book 6. Book 2 isn't really dark in comparison...
