Vagabond Treehouse (2023) [Beware of Chicken 3 - December 4th]

Not sure how work starting up again is going to affect things either--I'm often completely drained for the first month or so, before I remember How To Work And Live, so it's pretty likely I'll be spotty appearancewise for a while...
I *did* still read some--going to try to find the energy to get over and comment--finished:
Gideon the Ninth--really enjoyed the characters, world, voice, and word choice. The ending felt a bit rushed. Plenty of mysteries left for the following books, but a lot wrapped up too.
St. Mary's #...8? The one after the Markham short. Um... found it! And the Rest Is History. I just read through everyone's comments in the last two weeks that I've missed and it looks like St. Mary's has kinda stalled out? I thought I was two weeks behind but I don't know if anyone else has read this one yet. Anywho, it had a couple of hard hitting emotional spots, which I enjoyed because Conflict! (view spoiler) The William the Conqueror historical stuff was fun too, and had me looking up facts.
The Skull Throne--book 4 of the Demon Cycle--a lot of awful stuff happens in this series, but I just can't stop reading... and I actually really like the Graphic Audio rendition.
Almost done with Winter's Heart (sorry @Choko!! I WILL be over to type up things, because I HAVE THOUGHTS)
Starting One Day: The Extraordinary Story of an Ordinary 24 Hours in America today for a local book club on Friday--not really interested because I'm prejudiced against non-fiction (where are my DRAGONS?), but I'm giving the audio a try.
I also picked up the audiobook for Memories of Ice--I have NOT given up on Malazan, it just hasn't been what I need right now so it's stalled somewhat. Going to see if the audio can help move me forward since I haven't been reading as much as I'd like lately...
I don't know how much reading I'll do the next few weeks, but I'm looking forward to catching up on what y'all have been reading--clicking open the spoiler tags for Rich Man's War, Time of Witches, etc... really enjoyed all the little tidbits about what y'all have been reading and added some more to my TBR (looking at you, @Iain...)

Just don't disappear completely... I was beginning to think our little reading group was slowly dissolving... Soo AWOL, you AWOL, Emily and Choko and Brian and Julian super busy and commenting very little...

St. Mary's: I felt like we were waiting for you, to continue, and just wondering the other day what the plan was, if you didn't return... proof to my previous comment, that I posted before actually reading your whole post...
With this comment, I now feel I can continue with #8... I've done the 2 short stories between, with the Shakespeare and the My Name is Markham stuff... "none of this contemporary time BS" :D

I'm great for TBR suggestions, when I bother to read something new, or just mention yet more of my long list of already read favorites... having read around 3000 books, and nearly 1000 Urban Fantasies / Paranormal Romances...
I should pop into the WoT threads, considering I re-listened to the entire series in 2020...
And am also a big non-fan of non-fiction and the Classics...

If you have some time I hope you'll come comment on our Gideon the Ninth thread. Good to see you posting again :)

I am here buddy! Just been slowly reading through Mistborn #2. Been quiet lately since trying to enjoy the sun. Now I realize sun is overrated and too hot, Ill be back inside reading! lol

And yes Brian, the sun is totally overrated xD

I plan on starting St. Mary's after I finish the Sci-Fi one about the precog... She seems to be having some setbacks with boot camp right now... As I said, going slow because of being the only caregiver and trying to deal with everything at the same time... I truly apologize!

On a side note Iain I am loving the Poor Man’s fight series. I’m on book 3. What a hidden gem you found

I went through And the Rest is History pretty quickly! Agree with a lot of your main points..
Re Peterson (view spoiler)
I'm MOST thankful that (view spoiler)

No idea... this happens every couple years, tho... with Mary Robinette Kowal being a successful writer, her schedule doesn't always line up to release the audiobook on time...
Then, Audible has an annoying habit of just not listing a release date, it'll just exist one day, with a release date pretending it's been there since the ebook released, weeks/months prior...
I deal with this almost every year, with the Invisible Library series...
Best source of info on this stuff is generally twitter, if the narrator is active, but twitter locks you out after about 2 pages of scrolling, without an account, now...

I think I'll try next year though..

I’ve re-read October Daye a few times…
Re-reading the Tarot Sequence now… the first of three planned trilogies ended this year, but it’s been 3 years since the first 2 books came out… the easiest comparison is an M/M Hidden Legacy series with houses and titles linked to tarot cards…

Blasphemy! You always need more books :D

Finished my re-read of The Last Sun, and jumped right into The Hanged Man... it's honestly as if I've never read these before, my memory for the details is so terrible... clearly wasn't paying close enough attention...
But they ARE really good... and I was just on the author's GR page and saw a Q&A which indicated he's a heavy planner, and has outlines for the whole 9 book series... he says the first 3 books reveal the secrets that the MC has been keeping from the reader, the 2nd trilogy reveals the secrets that have been kept from the MC by those around him (there are mentions of more prophecies and instances of weird impossible powers)... and the final trilogy is the Endgame... has me really looking forward to all the books... hopefully the delays on book 3 were pandemic related, and not a sign of things to come... first 2 books came out in 2018-2019, and then nothing until this year...

You're not wrong xD
I’m starting to seriously doubt I read The Hanged Man, Tarot Sequence #2… if I did, I was paying terrible attention… I think I’d remember reading a book so similar to Hidden Legacy #2… all it’s missing is ninja ferrets…

Yea... there's no way I read Hanged Man before... and what a mistake that was... it was awesome...
On a sidenote, I love how the author clearly labels the climax of the story Endgame, and splits it into Parts if it needs to be multiple chapters... makes it clear we're heading into the final action sequence...
And, a dinosaur with arthritis might beat ninja ferrets... depending on the ramifications of winning it as a spoil of war at the end :D

Gonna start St. Mary's #8 now... if I read enough of it today, I can still do Tarot Sequence #3 tomorrow... priorities :D

Too bad that one wasn't on the sale ><
Re St. Mary's 8 (view spoiler)

Yeah, that was made me positive (view spoiler)
re: a dinosaur with arthritis might beat ninja ferrets whoa, where'd that come from?? I want to read that....
@Emily, ditto on everything. Though, per Max & Leon--(view spoiler) Can anyone confirm?
As for Ronan--(view spoiler)
@Choko--wishing you and your family good health and relaxation!

Been raving about Tarot Sequence, the past few days: The Last Sun, The Hanged Man, and soon to be The Hourglass Throne... the ebooks are on Hoopla, but not the audio... I got the first 2 a long while ago, and the 3rd book I picked up earlier this year and haven't read yet... the arthritic dinosaur was a minor character in Hanged Man, but I think it'll appear again in the next book, now that it's become property of the MC... the ninja ferrets featured heavily in Hidden Legacy #2, and in more minor roles in later books: White Hot... some reviews had fanart, but I'm not searching for it in the new and annoying book page...

Anytime I talk about something in here, especially more than once, I’m probably trying to get it added to your TBRs 😁😈
Muhahahaha
Muhahahaha

I'd be down for that, I've always wanted to read October Daye and haven't any. But next year sounds good. :)
@Choko do be good with words. :) Ditto that too.
@Iain--those books are already on my TBR! I just didn't realize until I looked at the cover. Waaaa so many books I want to read and so little time...

So, would we continue to age inside the bubble, or does it stop everything? I wouldn't mind if I could just go in it to sleep!
A bit further in Time for Witches. Getting into the Medea business, and things be heating up. The Hero concept ins interesting. And I felt really bad for poor Bill.
I could really use that bubble tech Choko, so let me know once you figure it out! I’m planning on marathoning Malazan next month…

From everything I've learned in LitRPGs, we just need someone to make a Virtual Reality MMORPG (VRMMORPG)... alot of them seem to work on compressed time, where it days pass in game (and feel like real time) while only hours/1 day pass in the real world...
In the Awaken Online series, the MC uses that to do his homework in the compressed time, then spend like 3 days in game before his next school day... the VRMMO also has this like bedchamber you can lay in while playing that stimulates your muscles, so you can also get a free workout and maybe some abs :D

After I year or more, back down at 2x speed after managing 3x before Covid, I forced myself back up to 2.4x for the most part, with a bit of a learning curve... 20% more reading accomplished :D
