Speaking of books I want to re-read, and get you guys to read... when it eases off a bit and St. Mary's is done...

There's Laundry Files (available on Hoopla)... think you guys picked up some on sale... The Atrocity Archives (they're more fun that the titles imply :D )

And Johannes Cabal the Necromancer... this is an author I wish was more successful... I've read pretty much everything he's written except Patreon stuff... each book is pretty unique, but builds nicely to a finale in book 5...

St. Mary 's #6... Up to Ch. 6... (view spoiler)[ Of course everything goes wrong!!! I felt bad for the guy that got his leg stuck... Bad luck, but it really was a good teaching experience for the new team.:)

I feel terrible for the lady and her fellow, for whom 10 years had passed and no time had passed for her... This has to be just so horrible, to think you know the other person, but his grief for all those years must have changed him tremendously... I hope they get to know each other again...

St. Mary 's #6 - Mary the Mammoth was the cutest thing!!! I wish they had kept her, but she would be happiest in Siberia... And those people are so happy to have her, she will be totally fine:)))

I think I picked up the Laundry files on a sale! If I can find the others am interested too.

And I was hoping book 2 of Ghosts of Gotham would delve into that! I'd like more Maddie focus. :) Though, I do have to say, (view spoiler)[I have a problem with the ancient being (like vampires) falling in love with people who are A FRACTION OF THEIR AGE. It seems very ew, and stalkery, and cradle-robbery, and I did think that Maddie in the book did not live up to my expectations of someone with three thousand years of life experiences. I rather prefer the Middle Falls approach to it--most characters avoided dating people who were waaaay younger than their mental and emotional age, and felt really weird about it when forced into such situations. @Emily--The bit about Medea--(view spoiler)[is not stated straight out in the book, so you didn't miss anything. She just says that her husband betrayed her, and that she did something unforgiveable in response. And thinks of her hands covered in blood. Unless you're familiar with the story of Medea, you wouldn't know that she killed her own children. At least I'm pretty sure it's never said straight out.

Medea was the daughter of the King of Colchis, who was the keeper of the Golden Fleece. When Jason and the Argonauts arrived, she fell in love with him, and helped him steal the Fleece and escape, with the understanding that he would marry her and take her away. One of the things she did to help them escape was to instruct him to kidnap her brother, then as they were leaving the island, she chopped him into pieces and tossed them behind them in the ocean, forcing her father & pursuers to stop and pick up the pieces so he could get a proper burial.

Once Jason arrived back home, he did marry Medea, and they had I think two sons, but then he started casting eyes at a younger woman, a princess, and arranged with the king of whatever city they were in at that time to set Medea aside and marry his daughter, and become the next king. Medea found out, killed the princess with the gift of a poisoned dress, and killed her children so that Jason would have nothing of her, and would feel the pain that she felt when he tore her life away from her. Then she left and received sanctuary in Athens, even marrying that king I think.

Also, she was the niece of Circe (also a witch, and the lady exiled to that island that Odysseus got stuck on), and I think visited her to be cleansed of the blood guilt of her brother's death. (hide spoiler)]

That's all I remember of her legend--so folks correct me where I got it wrong. Oh, and she was a witch, magic-user, and sworn to Hecate, but we got all of that in the book. (hide spoiler)]

I just finished St. Mary 's #6... I loved it!!! I think this one was my favorite so far, despite it not being the one with the highest steaks... Loved everything about it, but her as the chief training officer parts most of all! Her connection with her trainees and her inner monologue through those was so realistic to me, I could understand absolutely every emotion and feeling she went through. It is a bit scary how much I relate to her at times. Doesn't speak well of my mental state:)))

I thought Lies is for next week, am I wrong?

Almost done with St. Mary's #6... I agree, this is a really good one...

Altho... (view spoiler)[it's annoying when MCs ignore people for plot blunders... Dresden does it alot in Dresden Files... and here, Maxwell did it with the mammoth in the toilet (hide spoiler)]

That was the only hiccup for me, tho... and mostly because of how she acted afterwards...

The evaluations were great, everything else was great...

Read The Law this morning... did the audiobook... Jim Butcher recorded it himself... quality was pretty decent... interesting to see his take on the characters... altho some of it was probably inspired by listening to Marsters... shame there's no Toot Toot (wanted to see Jim's voice for that)...

Anyway... it was a nice enjoyable, low stakes story... almost anything is low stakes compared to the last book, tho...

It could have almost been the prologue / first section of the next book, I think... given what the next book is supposed to be... I wonder if it was done separately, because of the story structuring... the story is broken into parts, and I wondered if that was supposed to be similar to a law textbook or something?...

(view spoiler)[Either way, I enjoyed it... seems clear Dresden has some PTSD to work through, for like the third time in the series (his burned hand in the early books... the events of book 12, altho his near-death made that harder... and now this and Murphy...

I decided to pop in here because Iain said you were buddy reading The Law. I'm reading The Law too, and I should be done with it by now since it's so short, but I'm on day four and still not done. It's not because I don't like it. It's because when I finally get a chance to read it at the end of the day after I get in bed, I keep falling asleep, because I'm so tired! I've enjoyed what I've read so far. I'm loving the eccentric lawyer with the chickens! I have to say though, I can never get used to Harry driving the munstermobile. It just doesn't feel right. I still miss the old blue beetle.

After turning My Sister's Grave into a Mystery series Buddy Read, I had to find another thing to read today, and settled on Poor Man's Fight... traditional military sci-fi that the author financed by writing harem erotica turned plot-story-book: Good Intentions

The review that calls Poor Man's Fight "Die Hard in Space" really spoils the final combat sequence (I presume)... it's a decently long book... it start from a pretty dry beginning, with a futuristic society that really throws forced debt in the reader's face, and the military as one of the only ways out of that debt...

Then a large chunk of the first 2/3 of the book is basic training and first combat duty for more training... the a combat situation happens and MC gets some awards... now the Die Hard scenario... but there's still 1hr left at 2x speed, so maybe more happens... or maybe this situation just lasts longer than I think, given what's happened so far...

Either way, I'm glad I read this... tempted to rate it 5 stars, just for how much I've enjoyed the action sequences and the potential of the series...
