Maybe it will be a 6 book series?

It feels good to be reading again. :-)

EDIT: Yea:
Book Genres That Make the Most Money
Romance/Erotica – $1.44 billion. ...
Crime/Mystery – $728.2 million. ...
Religious/Inspirational – $720 million. ...
Science Fiction/Fantasy – $590.2 million. ...
Horror – $79.6 million."
I love a good mystery but I won't go near pure romance books. I like a good romance as a B or C side plot only...and even then I'm super duper picky about them.

@ Julian: there wasn't much data for genres below horror on that list... just assume it's less than Horror, which is already only 2% of all book sales...
@Soo: Sci-fi/Fantasy: Probably because they're similar and share a similar readership: Both tell stories about people with power we don't have today... whether it's magic or futuristic technology... aliens or trolls/orcs/goblins...
Also, Sci-fi's only been around for 150 years ago (I think people say Frankenstein is the original science fiction novel)... Fantasy has been around for 1000s of years...

I bet alot of people are going to start the year strong, thanks to rollover...
Slow and steady, for me... I actually had a better week than expected, given I had some extra days off this week, and usually end up not reading as much at home, these days...
Instead I finished The Wandering Inn: Book 1 and read The Conjuring of Zoth-Avarex: The Self-Proclaimed Greatest Dragon in the Multiverse & Unsouled, and started The Cuckoo's Calling... plus In an Absent Dream on day 1... that's all I've read, so far...

Too excited about the BR opportunities and then pushing to read when not engaged or don't have time. Makes it stressful and lose the fun.

Anyways, I got Etherwalker because he rated it 5 stars. If only the cool concepts were written into a cool story! =P
It was one of those that would get my interest for a few minutes and lose it within another few minutes. It's too bad. Story has potential but it didn't meet it, and I really feel like the book just ended in the middle of the arc vs a decent stopping point. Pacing is important darn it!
I followed through on my (secret) plan to update my shelves...
Condensed my yearly read shelves into decade shelves, condensed missed new releases from the last couple years into a single shelf, condensed all my audiobook shelves into a single descriptor shelf, added an ebook shelf while condensing, and sorted some more shelves with numbers...
Took 3hrs... not bad when messing with 3000 books... used batch edit, which timed out when doing more than 100-200 books at a time, so I had to do it in chunks... some of my shelves had 300-500 books on them...
Still want to identify some more short stories, based on page count, but other than that I'm happy... unless I decide to break up some of my oversized genre shelves...

Otherwise, I'd never crawl out of the organizing hole. It just gets deeper!
Have you guys checked out Storygraph? It's book review/etc website. Though, they want to look more appealing like an app vs website.
It's suppose to recommend books to you depending on what you read and how you rate it vs other readers. I've only spent a little time on it. The interface is too clunky for me to like.

I've revamped my shelves 2-3 times... first time around, I was literally giving each series a shelf... that became cumberson fast (Around 150 shelves)... especially since you can only view 100 shelves at a time, without having to switch shelf pages...
Then I revamped into genres... I started tracking yearly reads and listens when I transitioned to audiobooks 2014-2016... and I've slowly added subgenres over time...
My whole genre, subgenre thing is a shame, since I wasn't doing it from the beginning... that's half the reason my UF/PNR is clumped instead of separate... it's hard to go back and sort through 800 books and say if they're more UF or PNR... it's such a sliding scale...
I think, if I redid everything now, romance would just be a subgenre that I appended to other books, to indicate when romance fights for domanance over the plot... or a romance-heavy and romance-light shelf option...
And I should really make a Historical Fantasy shelf, instead of just using Steampunk as a catch-all for anything with supernatural creatures or steampowered contraptions in the past... would catch dieselpunk/etc at the same time... and weird westerns...

I caught the low-hanging short story fruit... mostly from my romance days... getting the rest would mean actually looking at 3000 books for anthologies and short stories in larger series...

Perusing my TBR shelves always reminds me that Time Pimp exists... which it should... I have it shelved in case I ever get the chance to read the ridiculous sounding book... it's only $3

Have fun!

Like, I'm behind on anime series by several years. It's good to have so many things I like to do and be able to do it at some point.
Sounds like you can make it work with skiing. Do you have good headphones?

With skiing I've got some earbuds but need to find a way to let it work. With a helmet on its not the most comfortable fit.

I wasn't too sure about it when I did the research, but I took a chance and got Aftershokz Aeropex. Hooks over your ears. Probably will fit under helmet.
I watch a wide range of anime. Anything from action, mystery, horror, school life, rom-coms, etc.
There's a bunch of anime, Asian dramas & stuff on Netflix I should watch but I haven't made time.
I caught Soo's notification bug... now my notifications are like 6-12hrs behind, and keep telling me comments I've already read are new...

The feed & group discussion are staying current. I keep a tab open for Vagabond, WI and Mystery Club. So, I just hit refresh for those.
Updated my personal tracker page with planned BRs. It wasn't as many as I thought. Yay for being manageable!

Same. It's annoying.

That's where I find out notifications are broken :D when they're not updating at all, anyway....

Somehow, I have over 100 friends... and I don't even know who 25-50% of them are... especially the ones that have changed name AND profile pic... they're basically strangers... half the time I'm just used to seeing them in the friend rating/review secton, at this point...
I used to think I didn't have many friends on here... then I stumble on someone that has less than a Top 8 total, still... and I'm like... somehow I became a social butterfly... even tho I still don't go out of my way to increase my friend count... I add people I BR with... and sometimes I accept randos if they give a decent reason... but generally I ignore randos and only accept BR friends...

Another fun comic on WebToon's Canvas: Velvet Vanilla

Mechs!
Plus, Indonesian Artists.
I’m turning over a new leaf too and actually buddy reading this year! I think my last BR was in 2019 😬

That's why I'm always wary of changing my profile pic even though the son that's in it with me is now 12 years old. I figure people won't know it's me.

My shelves say I've done over 500 BRs since late 2017... not sure it's 100% accurate... probably done more, since I didn't add that as a shelf until later...
Recenty redid my shelves, and now I can say I've done ~1700 audiobooks and ~1100 ebooks in the past decade... ~300 of them "ebooks" were short stories and novellas, half from author websites... so my audiobooks are WAY ahead on page count...

Wow Iain!!! That’s intense!
I’m not anywhere near your level.
I only started using GR properly in 2018 and consistently in 2019 so I don’t have these stats. But it’ll be fun to see in a few years.

Yea... I started using it solely for book tracking in 2013... discussions a bit in 2015... this group and serious Buddy Reads in 2017/2018...
Redid my shelves to count by decade yesterday, instead of yearly... now I have a goal for the 2020s vs 2010s :D
2020s will probably be slower than 2010s, but I also have 3 extra years to match it, since I didn't read much 2010-2012...

LOL
Started trying out audiobooks in 2017.
2017 - 329
2018 - 438
2019 - 579
2020 - 972
2021 - 709
Reading went up gradually. 2020 and 2021 are comparable. Only difference is that I read more webnovels & dedicated time to music in 2021. 2022 is probably the year I can hit 1000 books because I don't think the pandemic will quiet down until the tail end of this year. Maybe it'll happen. I'm totally cool if it doesn't. Gotta keep life interesting and not stay rooted into patterns. =)
