I'm there with you Narilka...my goal in life was to buy a house so I'd have room for all my books...

All of which are in boxes right now, awaiting end of renovations and new shelves. If anyone knows how to link a picture from google drive that will load properly I would show you...

Nirkatze | 21012 comments Never heard of Threshold but it looks interesting!

I'm okay with next Monday. Emily?

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Here's my Google Photo link to see a moon shot I took last year:

https://photos.app.goo.gl/Zh2xYUGwmbR...

Link worked for me, but I'm the owner. Someone else has to try it and let me know if it works. lol

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments The postscript ends with Thomas thinking (view spoiler)

After that is the preview for #2 and starts with:

Finally, I can kill myself.

=D

You didn't ruin anything. Would have found out soon anyways!

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments I'll leave the link active for a week or so and then delete the photo. I don't actually use Google Photos anymore. Google has gotten weird with clunky interface stuff.

Thanks, Choko! =D

Nirkatze | 21012 comments Ah, I was trying to do the img embed thingy. I'll just put link in then. Here's my library! Or about 1/3 of it anyway. More walls not in the picture.

Very cool photo Soo!

message 1011: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments I like it!

Is that just in your bedroom or it is an office room?

When I was a teen to late 20's, I had bookshelves and crate w/ board shelves that took up a wall or two of my room. When I moved to VA, I got the master bedroom upstairs and it had a vaulted ceiling. My library wall was very high in that room.

Now I'm in a townhouse where my books are on two floors. LoL

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments If I was doing a bookcover challenge, The Unusual Second Life of Thomas Weaver (Middle Falls Time Travel, #1) by Shawn Inmon is probably the cover I would use for bad/cheesy/ cover. lol

Nirkatze | 21012 comments It's my third floor napping place. I want to build (climbable) bookshelves stretching from the second floor up to the vaulted third floor. :)

I can see the cheese in that cover. Bleu Cheese.

“It’s never too late to become a villain.”"

Our so very "generous" Weed: )))

message 1015: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Nirkatze, ooooo! You have high vaulted ceiling that goes up two floors? That's nice! Are you going to hire someone to make the shelves or try to do it yourself? A stud finder will probably be important and to not put holes in electrical wires. XD

message 1016: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments LMS: I know right? LoL

He's not really evil though. His heart is soft. Even if he doesn't think he has a soft heart.

Nirkatze | 21012 comments I'll do it myself. I built the shelves that are in the picture. I'm upgrading to a different style and making more space. Some day all of my books will have shelf space!!!

Tonari no Emily (emlfem) | 5115 comments Works for me for the second TTT (was that the right acronym :D)

Finished this morning before bed. I think I was just getting mad at (view spoiler)

Tonari no Emily (emlfem) | 5115 comments @Nirkatze ahhhh boooks! so many :D

Right now we're living with my husband's brother and wife, so we can't display all our books, but hopefully we'll be buying a house this year. I really want some built-in shelving rather than free-standing shelves so we can go to the ceiling

message 1020: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments When I get to the home I'll settle in... er, at some point in sooner vs later years, I'll totally design and build a library link of libraries for my books. *starry eyed*

message 1021: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments I guess we may need a new acronym for the series since it's not just about Thomas. LOL

TTT = Time Travel Thomas XD

I put #2 down for BR next Monday, 02/14.

Also, I read the other day that Travis Baldree is recording the narration for his book Legends & Lattes. I'll have to keep an eye out for the audio on Audible. =)

Nirkatze | 21012 comments @Emily--same! I'm using the pictures for reference. I plan on going full Beauty & the Beast Library Ladder :)

Your days will come soon, Soo, Emily! I've been dreaming this for years, and I'm finally going to tackle it this summer. There's tons of industrial pipe bookshelf tutorials online, and I made a few little prototypes last summer to try out the concept. I don't have any pictures yet, or I'd show. I really like the modular capability of it--instead of doing straight across shelves, I'm thinking of doing staggered shelves with lit holes to hang artwork and spaces to put knickknacks.

Tonari no Emily (emlfem) | 5115 comments @Nirkatze that's a good idea! Might have to keep that in mind for later :)

@Soo, Yay audio makes it so much easier to read. And we already know he's a decent narrator.

message 1024: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments - Nirkatze, I've had all sorts of different kind of shelving for my books. I haven't done complete custom builds yet because I want to do it once I know it's home for good vs for a while.

My design will build around the room space and not be standard bookshelves. =D Yay fun designs & creating!

- Since Travis is doing the recording for the audiobook now, I don't think it'll be available on audio until later. We can always wait for the audio release to do the BR.

Choko, what do you think? Legends & Lattes comes out on 2/22 and we planned to BR around then. We can see when the audiobook comes out and BR it via audio. Either way is ok with me.

Tonari no Emily (emlfem) | 5115 comments I'm ok with waiting for that one.

Nirkatze | 21012 comments @Soo, that sounds really cool, building around the space! I hope you get wicked space when you find your next home.

I love browsing pictures of home libraries online... better than cat pictures...

@Emily too--if y'all feel comfortable sharing pictures in the eventuality of your bookshelves, I'd love to see!

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments This is from 2012 and it doesn't look like that now. Don't have shots of the current disarray of my physical books. lol

That was just one part and most of the SF/F hardbacks + some papberbacks.

I think in 2019 or so, I was able to get baker shelves for cheap from a thrift store closing sale. 3 of them are the same, strong metal frames and 4 glass shelves. The three of them take up the same amount of space as the bookshelves in the photo. Double the depth of the shelves, so I have stuff stacked in front of the books. Before the current chaos, it was art, photos, knick-knacks & maybe other books in front. Right now, it's whatever will fit on the shelves as things are getting rearranged/etc.

When I moved into this townhouse, one of the first things I did was measuring everything and designing the placement for shelves. About half the walls on the main floor have bookshelves.

Nirkatze | 21012 comments That. Is. Awesome! I was admiring your level of knickknackery! Building the bookshelves in my house was also one of the first things I did (right after making blackout curtains for the bedroom).

When we moved into our current house I took one of the spare bedrooms and converted it to a "library" - one wall is book shelves, the other has a couch and an end table with a lamp. It's cozy :) Of course, that did not stop the book accumulation from over flowing lol The photo I use in my profile is a photo of one of my cats helping me in the library. He's standing on the Dragonlance shelf.

Legends & Lattes: Alright! I'll keep an eye out for the audiobook.

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Iain, I tried to listen to Dire: Seed last night and I just didn't care. I'm not sure how you read the whole series. The setup and writing for the story doesn't engage my interest.

Does it pick up or stay about the same? You gave Born #1 5 stars and I thought it was a middling 3 star.

I'm juggling the Audible Plus books around and trying to figure out which ones I want to read. Putting those books in between library and owned books. Get my membership worth out of Audible. =P

I really enjoyed the series the first time... they've been alright on re-read...

I'd say, the first book is a pretty good measure of the series...

They started as a WORM fanfic, apparently, and had some locations changed to Earth for traditional release...

message 1035: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Ah, ok. I think WORM and the Dire Saga are just not stories I have any interest in reading. The writing for Dire Saga was not good and characterizations and other stuff didn't really make sense within context of the story told.

I know I have WORM tabled as try as some point, but I think that may be a miss for me.

I can't love all stories! It's just not possible. Even if I want to like them all. XD

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments IN A V. 04... ‘Woman equals money. Relationship with any woman revolves around money. If you spend it – you get love in return. I don’t want a relationship like that…’

Weed had some twisted view on the matter. In his mind he compared beautiful girls to hippos feeding on money.

Haha! Poor, poor Weed!!!

He's not wrong though. There's the idea that dating does need to spend money, etc and that definitely happens even if people try to keep it casual for the first meeting.

A coffee meet up will cost whatever you drink/eat.

LoL Evan & Joe/Josephine/Joey interactions are hilarious. I can't believe she wants to go on a roadtrip at 16, but it makes sense. He should just go with her. =P

I don't remember the books having this amount of humor but it's great to hear. It makes me want to re-read the series. =)

message 1043: by Choko (new) - rated it 4 stars

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments I need to read them for the first time...

About LMS, I am in book 5, and Weed has found a way to exploit other players by getting them to carry stones for him and pay him for the privilege!!! It is funny, but sad at the same time...

message 1044: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Choko, oh yeah! That's the one where he builds a pyramid crypt for the king. lol

His grass porridge becomes legendary.

Well, I don't know if it's actually sad? It's an open ended game world and the players are doing it for a reason. They're joining the quest because it gains them fame, experience and rewards. It's higher for low level players than doing the errand quests.

Orphan X: There's not a lot of humor at the beginning of the series. It's more action/thriller than anything else. Though, there's always a bit of humor due to Evan learning how to be a regular person.

In the nitty gritty action parts now for #7.

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments LOL! Yup! They're very similar, but she has a more practical eye about life. She didn't have to struggle as hard to make money and stuff because he was taking care of her. Her outlook is different.

You know, I didn't think I would like her, but she's not what I expected and grew on me. =)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Orphan X #7:

That was very satisfying! I was amused, annoyed, WTH, cringed cause when does Evan ever come out undamaged, cheered, rolled my eyes and wanted to give Evan a hug.

Oh yeah! I liked the way crime was shown within the plot line. There's the darker, gritty aspect of guns & mansions, but there's also the virtual exhcanges that are harder to pin down.

If Audible sold the ARC/ALC, sounds like an editing error, that they didn't update to the release version...

I'll find out tomorrow, when I probably start... gonna read Orphan X before Silkworm
