If so, I want to add Finn Fancy Necromancy to the near future, too... it's already loaded on my phone and waiting to go, when I stop being so busy with BRs and loans...

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments Mine too. I have it loaded up, so when we have a moment, you just say, and I will be there. Also, what about the next book in the Manners and Monsters series? It looks as if only you and I are hanging in there on that one...

I'm open to zooming ahead... Narilka & Saar don't seem to have much time for that series, with their limited reading time... it's already taken 3-4 months to read 2 short books, and I'd like to read more, sooner than later...

message 754: by Choko (new) - rated it 4 stars

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments Same here. For short books like that, I like them a bit closer together. Plus, they are a light read and are good to use for a respite while reading the big tomes...

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Moonlight Sculptor Mobile Game:

I am now a lv101 Sculptor! Woo!
I've sculpted a total of 4 things that give me a 2% experience boost for each kill. XD

I have a dragon familiar that's only good for making my pack carry more stuff. Doesn't do anything else really.

Plus a rabbit pet that gives me a 2% speed boost.

At least, I can summon a Golem to fight, but it's pretty weak and hits like 20. LoL

There's a bunch of skills and stuff to level up, but I have to rely on mobs dropping the skill books. I think the highest I have anything leveled up to is lv7.

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments Congratulations to all Cincinnati and the Bengals!!! It really hurt me that KC lost, but I don't begrudge the victory. Now they had better win the whole thing on the 13th of February! I will be very disappointed if they don't!

message 759: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Choko, as far as I know, there's no limit. There hasn't been a limit discussed within the story and I'm almost done with Vol16.

Julian, woohoo!

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments I am witnessing his first statue right now:) I am glad he is starting to embrace his Sculpture class:)

message 761: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments You know Hyun! He only see's everything as money. lol

Part of what I love about this series is how he's learning to become more than the small slice of life that he had crammed himself into and that development is awesome! So funny, ridiculous, sad and outrageous.

message 762: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Brian, I'm waiting to finish it, but I think you would enjoy Agincourt. No holds bar account of life & war as King Henry V drives his forces to take over the French throne. Lots of action and definitely grimdark.

That word grimdark. I was thinking about it and how it's come about. It's not like there weren't dark action/etc stories out before the word was popularized. Lots of horror stories are grimdark, but you wouldn't necessarily call a horror story grimdark? Or would you?

message 763: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Finished Agincourt and it was a smash-bash, disgusting success! As in, battle and war is gross and messy.

message 764: by Choko (new) - rated it 4 stars

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments I have read quite a few of his works, and he is all about the grit and gore of reality...

I'm really enjoying my Captain Vorpatril's Alliance re-read... been a few months since I re-read the "main" books in the series... all that's left, now, is this Ivan Vorpatril book, the last Miles Vorkosigan book CryoBurn and the Countess Vorkosigan book Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen...

message 773: by Soo (last edited Jan 31, 2022 05:46PM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments They're all good books. =D I'm glad you're enjoying a relaxing read.

Choko! When you get to Vol17, we will have to share a laugh and cry about the events in that volume.

message 774: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Because I bought some ebooks on Amazon, I got one of those spend $26 bucks and get $6 buck credit.

I have to do it within a few weeks. I could get the Dorothy Dunnett books for the other series to BR with the Erstwhile Corner group, but I'm on the fence. I mean, I know I'll get them eventually, but the plan was to get it when I'm going to read it.

Trying to think of books I want to get in ebook format. I prefer epub format. I dislike the mobi/azwi but grew to accept to a point because it's getting harder to download & keep personal files. The way digital is handled by all of the bookstores has changed & become limited to app vs download to your system & access easily without hacks.

message 776: by Brian (new)

Brian | 1681 comments Agincourt- you are right Soo. Cornwell throws you immediately into the frying pan on this book. If all of his books are like this I am going to go on a bender and start throwing him at the top of my reading list.

Nicholas Hook is a great character too. Born into trouble for sure I can't but hope he gets a break soon! Very violent and brutal beginning and I am hooked (no pun).

message 777: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments It was action packed, right? Talk about throwing into the frying pan and that St Martin or whatever his name is needs to die a long and lingering death. LOL

I don't think all of Cornwall's books will have this pacing, but I'm down to read them with you! =D

message 778: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments If I could hug a webserial, I would. lol

Agincourt was awesome! The other books have been blah to blah blahs. So, it's nice to be reading Legendary Moonlight Sculptor & getting a mix of laughs, ooooo's and subtleties to keep my imagination happy. Even with the somewhat off-kilter translation, I don't find it hard to dive into the story & enjoy all the elements of the series. =)

message 779: by Choko (new) - rated it 4 stars

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments We are snowed in today. This means I am going to try and finish out The God's War in the morning and after that, I am not even looking at anything but The Moonlight Sculpture! I can't with the Grim-Dark and Dystopian at this time anymore! Those are going to grind down my spirit completely, when I pile them up like that... Started with Malazan, then The Sward of Tyshall, The Prince of Thorns and now The G-ds War, and I am begging to think that life is a bleak, cruel, unforgiving, hapless, and bloody state of Doom!!! I need something light and happy and the web serials it is!!

message 780: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Eek, you loaded up with too many darker stories. Though, Caine will end well but it was always a dark story for that series.

LMS to save the day! It may have dark elements but it's definitely more funny than not. =)

I thought it was just me... it broke right when Nirkatze accepted my friend request :D

Wondered if maybe that was what was breaking it for some people and not others...

Tonari no Emily (emlfem) | 5115 comments Choko, definitely understand about the grimdark! I try to put in something light in between those because otherwise everything is depressing lol

Tonari no Emily (emlfem) | 5115 comments Had an exhausting day at work today, and now my brain is too mush for reading.

The Hungry Dreaming finally made it to Audible yesterday... 7 months late... I swear it got lost in Audible's production black hole... not the first time that's happened to Craig Schaefer...

Anyway... too late for me... I already read the ebook, in my haste...

I haven't quite finished the Pendergast books, yet, or started the Nora Kelly ones... 2 Pendergast left, I think... soon, tho... and I still need to read Relentless before Sierra Six...

If I'm only reading ~20 books/month, I'm pretty booked up, it seems...

I have vague plans to read Discworld this year, and I keep adding long BR re-reads...

message 792: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments It's a good line up for stories though. =D

I know when I read less, I'm more about enjoying the books vs pushing to trying new authors/series.

I'm mostly pushing on things I've already started... and the January list of new releases I missed in 2021/2022...

message 794: by Julian (new)

Julian | 759 comments Ooh I want to read Discworld eventually as well. I've got such a large backlog of books and BR's that I'm behind on but once caught up I'll probably join you at it Iain!

I've read the first book twice... did the re-read a few weeks ago... make time for that, and we're set to read #2 together at some point... the books are short, so they're no big commitment... but there's like 42 of them...

Having a Buddy should keep me on some kind of schedule, instead of letting it fall by the wayside... I read the first book for the first time a few years ago...

I had some idea of following specific characters, the first time I read the first book, but now I'm just gonna do them in publication order... see the connections as they come...

The first 2 books are 2 halves of a larger story, following Rincewind the kinda mage, and a variety of characters, being controlled by the gods in a game of celestial D&D...

The Color of Magic
The Light Fantastic
Equal Rites

message 798: by Julian (new)

Julian | 759 comments Should we try getting an official thread for Discworld?

message 799: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Nirkatze, if you haven't read Vorkosigan Saga, you should do that! Between your library and Audible Plus, you can read the WHOLE series. I recommend starting with The Warrior's Apprentice and filling in the chronological books later.
