Vagabond Treehouse (2023) [Beware of Chicken 3 - December 4th]

I'm Level 80+ Sculptor now. I spend about 2 hours playing a day. lol
Only crafted 1 statue, made a cloak, smithed a dagger and killed a ton of mobs. At least I've only died once? XD

Playing a bit like Weed in the story. With, uh, less training all the skills because you have to forage/gather.
When you start, you end up going to the Training Hall. At the Training Hall, leave your character in Auto-Attack mode & hit the sparring dummy until you get to level 10.
If you want the Sculptor class, you have to create a class-less character.
1st is the Training Hall, then explore the castle and run around to do the basic Quests and small Requests. It's super easy to level up the first 20-30 levels.
Only one game server for America. We should be able to friend each other. Heh

Also Dresden Files is a no go for me. Perhaps it's the narrator or something but I just couldn't get into it much and found my mind wandering frequently

Wee~
The advantage to reading more/faster, is you can push through slogs fasters, and reach the good stuff...
And maybe see good series hiding in bad starts, that others don't have time for...

I think it took about 4-5 tries for me to get beyond Dresden #1. I did a mix of audiobook and print for that. Marsters' narration was SO bad back then! LoL

I'm listening to Defiance of the Fall: A LitRPG Adventure, and I realized that the way Zac fights could be easily Jason Voorhees without the mask and supernatural ghost deal.
I like the concepts and the way the author approached the story, but BOY do I wish he had made an effort to pay for a good editor or had the luck to have good beta readers.
Most of the story has a blatant 'echo' effect. He uses a certain word or phrase twice in a row. It happens over and over again.
I just wanna cut up the story and get rid of the fluff:

Dresden Files & Malazan - Both of them took work for me to get into & having the option for audio definitely helped with both books.
Dresden: The fact that I had recently gotten into trying audiobooks was one of the reasons why I made myself listen to the audio while hiking/etc. At home, I'd switch back to the book.
At this point, I don't have as much patience for bad narration, but I will stick out bad narration for a good story. So, in that manner, I'm sure I'd still get past the rough patches and end up loving the series. I've re-read the series a few times now and look forward to re-reading at some point.
Malazan: I've had the hardback for #1 for years. Tried to read it many times and always put it down for another book. Zero chance I would have read Malazan without audio. I consider Malazan as a bundle pack that cost a few hundred to read. I don't feel like I wasted money, but I won't gain re-read value now that I've finished it.
I look forward to trying other books by Erickson that is not a part of the Malazan world. I have zero interest in reading more books about Malazan.
Both Malazan and Dark Tower series feel like the author is a bigger presence than the characters/stories they have written. That kills the fun of reading those particular stories for me.
Stephen King & Steven Erikson are good writers. I like King more than Erickson. Mostly because King's books invite readers to venture into the darkness and explore the range of imagination. Erickson is more pompous in his style and demands the reader to conform into his writing.
It's pretty cool that a book can have such a wide variety of reactions and thoughts. That's one of the awesome things about the reading groups. Being able to discuss what we think and share. =)

would you consider Ready Player One to be litRpg? It shares many key elements of the genre however at the same time the characters aren't truly living in another game world.

I just saw a friend add this to his TBR: Legends & Lattes: A Novel of High Fantasy and Low Stakes
I'm intrigued! =D

Awww, Weed finally figured out a clue to solving one of the more obscure quests! I love the whimsical aspects that are in this series! =D
Choko, you'll love this part.

Weed has to go on a dungeon raid with his class. Classmates did research and found one by following clues in a porn book.
🤣🤣🤣

I'm reading on a different website because I liked the format a bit more on that one vs the one I sent you.
Thus far, I think I've read about 4 different translation groups for the story. It's a bit tricky when they don't use the same names/spelling.
The porn book was a book in Royal Road. Not in real life. LOL
Choko, are you running into bad translations? Part of the reason why I sent you that website is because it has the option to change font type & size. Makes it easy to adjust settings to make it easier to read.

The writing is definitely rough, but the story is entertaining.

Star Wars audiobooks have great narration that even includes background effects alongside various voices.

-- Narilka, LOL! I like your devious mind. hehehe
-- Julian, what's the book? I call the audiobooks with good soundtrack/effects/etc as audiodrama. It's like when they used to do radio dramas.

Although I've listened to other Star Wars books in the past and they all seem to be like that.

I haven't tried to read any of the stories for Star Wars or Star Trek. I have listened to the audiobooks for Alien. Those are well done.

Used up my Hoopla credits:
Northwest Angle -- Cork #11
A Conjuring of Assassins -- Chimera #2
Captain Vorpatril's Alliance -- almost done with re-read
The Last Adventure of Constance Verity (re-read #1, then catchup #2, for #3 release this year, January challenge)
Got 3 weeks to read all these... annoying that Chimera #3 never got an audiobook, for some reason...

I thought you also wanted to read Finn Fancy Necromancy, but you never say anything when I bring it up around here ;)
Constance Verity is fine, tho... I'm reading Soulsmith now... will probably read Captain Vorpatril next... then I'm open to Constance Verity or whatever... think I need to keep an eye on reading Where the Drowned Girls Go & Tiassa for BRs, as well... actually, might be late on the Drowned Girls, already...
So I'll probably squeeze in Drowned Girls next... it'll be a 2hr read...

Dyrk Ashton saw my one-liner Rise of Gods review, apparently... 4 stars, and I mentioned how the early chapters introduced tons of characters, before settling down... was kinda surprised to see him in my notification feed for giving the review a like...

It's a dystopian with zombies. Writing + plot is rough around the edges, but the author has a decent build on characters. If you read it, I'd be happy to chat about it here. =)
Plan to read #2 & 3 later this week.
