Started BOC3… half done already… loving it… 9hrs into 18hr audiobook, all read at work this morning…
Worst part is knowing I’ll have to wait for #4 when done… from what Soo said, it spunds like we can look forward to 2-3 more audiobooks, minumum, before we catch up to the web serial which started. Olyme 4 last April (since 2-3 were the 2 halves of Volume 2 serial)…

Is that something I've forgotten already, or coming towards the end? (view spoiler)
The first thing I thought, was "noodle noodle? or the Spirit Snake named Noodle?"

I just reached the noodle inn scene, I think... hilarious...
I feel like truly hilarious scenes that shock me these days, are more prone to lead to a burst of laughter + a hand clap to commemorate...
I really like the camaraderie that Jin Jo's disciples are accidentally spreading across the world, now, and where it might lead, now that Shallan is questioning her old destiny vs new priorities...

Heh you didn't have to wait a year+ like the rest of us. I was able to borrow 4 and wrap up the series.

Thank you for that head's up--I'll do some more research before finalizing the schedule.
Do Better is the anthology... it has all the short stories, and some new ones not seen elsewhere, including some non-canonical early scribblings...
I/we read everything up to 5.5, and I was getting lazy and planned to just save all the newer late series stuff for after #10... I'd read all the pre 5.5 stuff before... it mostly focuses on Marla POV... the 6+ stuff explores more different POVs and is less necessary in a chronological fashion... and some happens past the end of the series, I think?... would have to recheck...
If you have the ebook, each story has a Foreword explaining the chronological location and a bit about the writing process...

lists are nice... I think I had a vague list at some point in this thread... when me and Choko were Buddy Reading... good luck finding it tho...

I was thinking we'd make a new thread for 2024... been on my mind for a few weeks...
100 pages seems like more than enough... I think that's about how long the first thread ran... over 5000 comments...
EDIT: The first thread ran for 2 years, and only managed 2900 comments... more people, more talking, more comments :D

eh, yeah... even if I did find it I wouldn't be able to recreate the links...
BOC 3, Chapter 57: Jin Jo says dealing with cultivators is so damn stressful... cut to the governor of the town near Fah Ram, 1000 miles north, feeling a a sense of kindred spirits randomly :D

Need to read 42. 📚📚📚
I had a rough week, generally speaking... multiple slow burn books... 1 was an author I trusted so I muddled through and enjoyed the twists and turns in the 2nd half... the other was a new to me author, and I kind of veered off and started other things instead, and still need to return and finish (the Mystery Book Club book for the month)... only read 25% of that one so far, and it's an admittedly short book... under 8hrs at 1x speed...

Reign of Dragons is on Audible + until end of month. I'm listening to this shoddy story at 3.25x. May up to 3.5x.
Checked page count and it's over 600 pages on kindle. 🤣🤣🤣
I'm like, wow, not much happened in the 40+% I've listened to.
This could be used as an example for poor planning in character design, world setting, subpar fighting knowledge and sad panda choice to write an 'action' fantasy in rolly yawn 1st person.

I've been sticking to strong lead characters that overcome trauma/baddie. Lots of bonds & togetherness via food, growing business, etc.
The one I started the other day is fun, but I keep getting annoyed by the author's lack of knowledge about modernization standards in 1970's and up. I keep making grumpy faces every time it comes up! 😅😆
I'm like baby bottles have been around since late 1800's!!! Family being poor and not having a baby bottle is different from it not even being a developed item in 1977's!!!
Lame parts of a reincarnation centered plot. I could also be reading a poorly ripped off story based on a popular Chinese Webnovel, but I'd have to dig a lot more to find out if that's the case.

Oooh good to know! We read Black River Orchard in Spooktober and I had a good time with it

🤔🤔🤔
It may be Jin, followed by
Honestly, I just really like seeing how each character & important side characters evolve. Great togetherness and personal growth in the first 2 (original) volumes aka 1-4 books.
Book 5?/Volume 4 online goes into backstory mode and I wasn't a huge fan of any of the backstory leaps. They are good for overall story but awkwardly smacked into story flow. So necessary but like side stories with less polish.

Someone else recommended this too, when we were reading that... but I don't remember who... I put it down on my list for next year. ^_^

BoC is ongoing series and I highly doubt CasualFarmer can wrap up the whole thing in Volume4. Depending on how the arcs are written, it will take a few more volumes.

I meant in Black River Orchard... it's a horror story, after all, about some evil apple tree/orchard...

It was so much worse....

Only Amazon reviews will be on it and anything book related that you put on a Wishlist will also show up on a list.
I guess some people are excited about this?
Frankly, I don't trust Amazon reviews for books and rarely read them. It sucks that GR has gotten more troll accounts and I feel like I have to screen reviews on GR as well. At least on here, I can rely on friend's reviews.
The news about the different changes Amazon has made for books & collections make it seem like GR will be phased out.
I did another round of searching posts online for GR alternatives and there isn't another platform that is like GR. 😕

O..."
Noooo I don't like that news AT ALL
It doesn’t seem like a platform… just an extension of their existing website to push book sales… they added that point reward system last year…
But yea… GR better live on…
But yea… GR better live on…

Like Amazon Book Clubs, reading challenges, reading/other Kindle badges, etc
I think we'll have GR for another year or so. Maybe a couple of years and then it'll get the axe cause Amazon only cares about sales.
I think our best alternative option will be to find a Reading Tracker app that can import GR data for keeping lists/etc and use Discord to chat.
I haven't found a good alternative for reader reviews & rating.

15 hrs (time of audiobook, not your actual listening time) is just enough for 2 short books or 1 normal length book.
Ya'll with Audiobook.com membership - Do you get free with membership audiobooks like Audible Plus? Cause that annual fee is not worth 1 credit per month.
You get 1 credit per month + 1 VIP credit from a shortlist of book options each month...
The discounted price right now is better than full price, but it's not great... I mostly have it because not all audiobooks are available on Audible anymore... the 4th Tournament of Shadows book by Tilly Wallace is available on basically every marketplace EXCEPT Audible... same with them Brandon Sanderson secret projects...

I guess time will tell. It's probably a good idea to have a Plan B for if this actually happens.
