Are you reading The Hot Zone: The Terrifying True Story of the Origins of the Ebola Virus or 14?

My Peter Clines peeps know what I'm talkin' about ;)

EDIT: I just realized you said QUEEN termite and not GREEN termite... this comment makes less sense now...

Ah yes, and also how both the CDC and USAMRIID wanted to take control of the situation, seemingly not caring about the best way to do it. Seemed more like a power struggle.

Yea, it was cockroaches... but green bugs in general seem weird to me... and didn't one of the crazier guys eat the green bugs?...

I read Newsflesh years ago... tried Parasitology last year and was disappointed... stopped after book 2...

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Newsflesh is a great series. You need to add that your to TBR. =)

Emily, I know right? I had a friend that's traveling and he posted a vid with him eating fried large black ants. He could handle eating the body okay but didn't like trying the head at all. LOL

I've had chocolate covered ants I think or some sort of meal worms. It was crunchy and yuck texture like weird plastic. lol

I'm not sure I've BR'd it more than once, but me & you & Narilka definitely did a re-read around the release of book 4, or a year after...

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments LSM Humor: How to defeat a guy from hitting on the girl before he even meets her. LOL

Vol9.6

Pale looked at him as if he pitied him.

"It's hard for me to say them as well. I don't want to remember them either. So when I heard something I just added them up in numbers."

"Numbers?"

"Death 309 times, vegetable state 68 times, at least a month stay in hospital 93 times, lower-body paralysis 30 times, deaths that I cannot describe twice. Something that's not alive neither dead... "

LOL!!! The kind of threats made if anyone tries to date Weed's sister. The ones that made the threats are the 500+ sword dojo members. Hahahahahah

message 519: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments We read the books about twice in Vagabond. Once as Narilka was getting into it and then a re-read before the new book came out. We did BR's for #3 & 4 here.

Wow!!!

I wish everything had narration... I suck at making time for ebooks... and LMS 1.1 page 1, sentence 1, looks very rough / stilted... and I'm sure the fact it's a translation doesn't help...

message 522: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Choko, he's Scrooge McDuck! LoL

Iain: Yeah, this one you have to read online. There's no audio for it. It's easy reading though.

Yea, I know... I looked into it a bit, a few days/week ago... when I learned about the Royal Road aspect of it all, and the 2007ness :D

message 524: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments The first few chapters in the volume are a bit stiff. It's a mix of the translation and the absolutely miserable situation that Hyun is in. Once he sells his character, story moves quickly.

Narilka | 5685 comments I'd be in for a 14 reread :D

right?... Threshold series is always on my mind... so few Eldritch books out there, in my wheelhouse... I don't particularly want full-horror...

Generally, when it shows up in a series, I can't talk about it because it's megaspoilers... like in (view spoiler)

Narilka | 5685 comments Yeah, definitely Iain. So few books get Eldritch horror right. I'm still sad that Peter Clines decided to write a different series for a while.

I have a reputation for spoiling things... both myself and others... moreso on discord than GR... on GR, my spoilery spoilers are all tagged and aimed at re-readers... I just love talking about series mythologies and unproven fan theories...

On discord, some people get super angry about game spoilers in the idle game genre which tend to have tons of mechanics that unlocks over weeks or months... and I don't always tag everything I should, as a discussion gets out of hand...

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments LMS: Vol9.8

Hyun's sister, Hye Yeon just totally bribed the whole dojo to help her make a surprise birthday party for Hyun. She promised to hook them up on blind dates with pretty college girls. Hahahahah

These guys are all about working out, eating to be healthy & strong, no clue about clothes, styling or how to talk to girls and get a date. Hahahah

Julian | 759 comments @Emily lol makes you think if these scientists are aware about potentially being exposed and still go mingle how bad things are for other people

message 535: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments It's a funky disconnect. Part of it is not realizing that you are supposed to be taking precautions, or maybe stuck on routine. Another part is not knowing exactly what kind of material you are dealing with and treating it as the least dangerous. The mind is a funny thing.

The part about plastic bags and gloves were in the abridge audiobook. I thought it was going to lead to another spread.

Yeah no kidding!
Just finished it today and during the Reston part I was just waiting for people to start getting it. They really did get lucky there!
I do want to read a more updated book on Ebola, especially since the more recent outbreaks we had in the past ten years.

Tonari no Emily (emlfem) | 5115 comments I haven't read Threshold 3 and 4 yet mostly because I saw they weren't as good as the first 2. If we BR'd them I'd be up for it though!

message 548: by Julian (new)

Julian | 759 comments @Emily the author has another book that’s on the recent outbreak that happened around 2013-2016! I plan on reading it after the wandering inn.

message 550: by Julian (new)

Julian | 759 comments That’s the one! If it’s anything similar to the last book then it’ll be an interesting read.
