Vagabond Treehouse (2023) [Beware of Chicken 3 - December 4th]

I think I can permanently get Hoopla to work if I stop by the library I signed up with for the permanent card... Let's see if I actually do that though LOL

They have definitely handled ebola there (level 4), and we actually have a whole section of the hospital ready for extreme isolation if the need arose.

All of the original figures (that are alive) are back in play! Story slowed down to setup for the final stages. I'm curious to see how this is going to actually end the trilogy.
In all, the True Bastards want the freedom to live and rule the Lot Lands.

I mostly forget that its there day to day honestly lol. It can be kinda scary if I really think about it, but I just have to trust all precautions/regulations are being followed. They have multiple layers of securities, etc.
As far skipping level 1 goes, I definitely didn't learn that. BSL1 we learned as minimal standard precautions as they don't work with microbes known to cause serious diseases. Just basic lab precautions. I'm curious what the book says about that, and I'll get back to you when I get there :D

As for interesting jobs, I feel like all of them have the cool points and the drudgery of everything between the exciting parts.

Talk about a blast from the past. I read the Hot Zone in school for one of my biology classes. Talk about a scary virus! Isn't there a TV show based on it? Its been too long to remember details though I remember being totally engrossed when I read it.

@Soo I'm a software engineer. Compared to some of the stuff you read here it's a pretty dull and safe career lol

Amazon/Audible have an unabridged version... not sure if anywhere sells the abridged version you got from the library...

Yea... alot has to happen to finish... but there was alot of setup in book 2, with the people from the other continent and stuff...

Gray Man #9 has been getting good... things are coming together and intersecting in the middle... all the good elements of a great Gray Man book are here...
When Court announced to the reader his intention to steal a CIA cargo plane (that was only in the area to transport a team sent to retrieve HIM and force him home for a sanctioned mission) I laughed out loud in my car :D ... classic Court... and explains why the author brought back the flight attendant from 1-2 books ago, that survived the shootout on a previous CIA cargo plane / incident...

Anyways, I was playing that and listening to Free Bastards. The middle is slower than should be. I'm heading into the last quarter and I'm super skeptical on how this will all end.
Jonathan French said he wants to write other stories and this will conclude this particular series. I'm going to bet that there will be a soft ending and he needs to follow up with another trilogy.

@Yanique or @Emily do either of you know at all by any chance?
Gray Man 9 keeps getting better and better...
1) Forgot to mention this earlier, but Gentry finally knows Brewer is out to kill him and/or get out of the Poison Apple program in general... he seemed on the fence about it in the last book, so it's a bit of a change of mind here... hate her...
2) The stolen plane thing didn't play out, but it led to an Old Hogs commando scenario that reminds me of some of the best old Jack Reacher books, where he teamed up with old Army team...
3) Now the rescued victims are proving to have a bevy of military skills... they might just survive (I trust Court to survive Gray Man books, but not many of his allies/clients)

As a layman, I think the "space suits" are a tradeoff in protection vs maneuverability... if they were 100% effective, it would probably be hard to do work in them...

Who uses items in video games?... they just go in my inventory to collect dust and try to reach x99/etc :D
I only use items in video games when there's some early game strat that lets you gain crazy levels and become OP... like rigging that monster hunter competition in Final Fantasy 9 so you get a Thunder Ring and can occasionally beat Thunder Dragons 40 levels early and gain crazy levels like 3 discs early...

authors that only write 1 book/year (or less) have it hard (if they want to finish one project before starting another)...
You see some authors like Gabalden or Brust or Mary Whalen Turner spend decades finishing a single series... never getting much chance to write anything else (or not having any other stories to write, I guess)...
Better than the alternative... there was this Margo Bond Collins that wrote some interesting books I liked all the blurbs for... but she released the first book in like 5-10 series to build interest and make money, and I was left feeling she started too many things, and wasn't going to have time to write sequels to them all in a timely manner, and I think I was right...
EDIT: Just checked, and she's filled out some series now, but she's started a ton more, and half still only have one book... she has over 20 open series... enough to require 2 pages of listings (2nd page only has 1 entry): https://www.goodreads.com/series/list...

Gray Man: Ahh yeah! You're getting me hyped for the new one that will come out. =D
Moonlight Sculptor Game: The dungeons are meant to be done as a party. The game is setup for people to join a guild and do stuff together.
I haven't decided if I'm going to play the game that in depth. It is a time hog. Even with the auto functions built in, still a time hog. Enjoying it for now. See how long I keep playing once I deem it safe to go back out for light hikes. Heh
Margo Collins --- Without even looking her up, I would have zero interest in trying her stuff. LoL Just from what you wrote there.

I worry way too much about authors getting old and dying before finishing their great series...

Finished One Minute Out... sounds like Relentless is another no-downtime book... seems to be a trend:
Court does a solo mission for his morals... gets a bit hurt... then it's thrown into the thick of things, with a CIA-sanctioned mission while still recovering...
Ending was great... "look on the plus side, free knife!!!" (sticking out of Court's shoulder/side)

Let me know when you get around to Free Bastards and write out your thoughts. I totally want to read what you think of the ending. I need someone to talk about it!!!
Don't read my review for Free Bastards. I'm done and wrote a review. =P

I want to do a popcorn read before I start the library loan book, If I Had Your Face. That one will probably be backstabby and full of drama.

It seems the biosafety levels are either different because it was in the 80s, or maybe USAMRED does things a little differently?
As far as tears in positive pressure suits, I don't think its super common, but obviously its super notable when it happens. Most breaches in containment are due to human error. But luckily, people wear at least two layers of gloves underneath the suits too.
The science described is pretty good for a lay person, but I was thrown out of the audio for a minute because the narrator pronounced Psuedomonas so weird lol
Emily's library had the unabridged version... not sure the abridged version is for sale anywhere, anymore... I didn't see it on Amazon/Audible when I looked...
So she gets the full-book experience, no summaries...

Two strikes for romance audiobooks. I'm sorry I paid money for the second one. *grumble grumble*
Dresden re-read has me looking at Dresden news... Butcher was 40% thru the next Cinder Spire book at Dragon Con in September... planned to be done by his Halloween birthday, and working on Dresden now... not sure how close that came to true, but I'm cautiously optimistic...

Also I just realized that for the first time in months my currently reading is a single book.
I keep confusing Andrea Vernon and the Corporation for UltraHuman Protection with Velveteen vs. The Junior Super Patriots, a Seanan McGuire series...
I should read Andrea Vernon and the Orlando People series... both sound up my alley...

Kane is pretty much on my instant buy list AND his books always go on sale. So, I don't have to wait too long to get the audiobooks. Woo~

Sounds like another henchman / superhero assistant series... it's such an interesting niche genre... with a hint of A. Lee Martinez wackiness...

I believe my review for #1 was in Audible's customer rave review highlight deal. First time the author messaged me on GR to let me know that my review was given a spotlight. lol
I've heard alot about Bahni Turpin... she narrated the Downside Ghosts series, and I know some people that re-read that a bunch... but I don't seem to have ever read anything she narrated, myself...

For some reason I can handle what Ebola does to bodies, but the part about eating bugs got me? Okay, self.
But then it went immediately into that vet handing them a bunch of dead monkeys full of Ebola only contained in a few layers of plastic bags which they handled with their BARE HANDS and just drove in the back of their Jeep??? I'm screaming.
