Oh, that's disappointing, Kirsten. Every once in a while I run into a narrator that I just can't listen to. Fortunately, that is rare. Sorry this one was so bad.

I finished reading Leopard's Scar
by Christine Feehan. My 4.63 rounded to 5 stars review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
As always, Feehan does an incredible job of bringing the main characters to life. The story grabbed my attention immediately and didn’t let up as I rapidly turned the pages. Overall, this action-packed romantic suspense has great characterization, several spicy and sizzling scenes, and plenty of action. I have read more than seventy books by this author across multiple series. This one has the right mix of romance, tension, action, and thrilling storyline.
Jess Kidd has many fans who will enjoy Dirty Little Fishes, her award-winning short story, available free in 'The Irish Times' and on her website. It is a creepy delight! 5★My review with links to the story
Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt
4+ stars
I liked this debut novel about an octopus, an elderly woman and a young man a great deal.

Currently reading the Mindf-ck series by S.T. Abby not sure why I didn't read these books earlier they are such quick reads!! I just started book 4 to 5 right now and I'm so invested in this story and these characters that I am not sure what I will do when I'm done lolI'm also reading Love on the Brain and honestly as someone who loved the Love Hypothesis I'm a little bored with this book and it hasn't been keeping me too interested which is why I've been reading other things currently.
Currently reading Dachshund Through the Snow. It is book #20 in a series that I enjoy. I am not nearly up to #20, but needed a book with a weather word (snow) in the title for a challenge. Even reading these completely out of order they are a lot of fun. I'd really like to read them straight through in order though so I get all the relationship building etc that occurs throughout the series.
I finished America the Beautiful: A Photographic Journey from Coast to Coast
by Publications International. My short 4 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This is a GR 2022 nominee for the history & biography category.
River of the Gods: Genius, Courage, and Betrayal in the Search for the Source of the NileIt was a good choice, well-written. I believe that readers with a strong interest in African exploration and its mid-19th century history would find this to be a more than satisfactory read. For me, it was a solid 3.5 ☆.
My review -- https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I had a typo in the link on my previous post of this one.Rook is a fictionalised account by Stephen G. Eoannou of ex-cons who teamed up to become an odd pair of "badfellows" and ended up on the FBI's most-wanted list.
3.5★ My review of Rook
The Really Wild Family series is a delightful introduction to wildlife for children. Great information and wonderful illustrations!Little Elephant: A Day in the Life of a Elephant Calf by Anna Brett is the latest one I've read.
My review of Little Elephant with several pictures
The Collected Stories of Katherine Anne Porter won the 1966 Pulitzer Prize for fiction. I recently read one of those stories, Flowering Judas, which is also the title story of a later collection. It takes place in the early 1920s in revolutionary Mexico. I can see why it made an impression in 1965.
My review of the story Flowering Judas
For my FTF BC I just finished reading a very well researched book, The Girls with No Names by Serena Burdick. Now I'm reading an ebook I won from GR, The Sun Rose in Paris by Penny Fields-Schneider.
Storm Echo #6 in Nalini Singh's phase 2 Psy-Changeling Trinity series (or #21 in her Psy-Changeling universe)Singh has created a fascinating alternate world which has kept me interested in the two series for 21 books. For her books, I prefer the UF component to the PNR because the latter's set up is very formulaic, as can be expected for anything still running with so many installments. The romantic pair included a member of the Mercants (third one so far) and a changeling. I liked how their relationship began; no struck-by-lightning situation like Alpha Night.

I finished Bowled Over Americano
by Carolyn Arnold. My 3.84 rounded to 4 stars review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, which was suspenseful, engaging, entertaining, and humorous. While it’s very different from the other books I have read by this author, I still found the writing style relatable, vivid, and irresistible. This was an excellent start to the series.
I enjoyed this and rounded it up to 4 starsThe Franchise Affair by Josephine Tey
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished two books today. Both were really good.
- 4★ - This was a really sweet romcom. Cute and funny, but a little repetitive. my Friendshipped review
- 5★ - Excellent mystery. I really wanted to know what happened. my All the Dangerous Things review
I'm now reading The Lost Ticket (physical) and Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun (ebook). I am starting The Villa (audio) tomorrow.
Richard Flanagan is a favourite author of mine, a Tasmanian, and I can see why The Sound of One Hand Clapping was on the award lists in 1998. It's the story of a migrant family who came to Tasmania in the 1950s. Australia wasn't war-torn Europe, but life for them was no picnic.
4.5★ My review of The Sound of One Hand Clapping
I finished The Lost Witch
by Paige Crutcher. My 3.26 rounded to 3 stars review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
The author did a great job of transporting me to this community in both timelines. The imagery was extraordinary. Overall, this was an entertaining story that kept me engaged. The rich storyline with its layered plot, several interesting characters, and plenty of action made this a pleasurable read.
However, the pacing in the middle section of the book was slow. My other quibble is that there were times when the writing was more telling than showing. This also affected the novel’s pacing.
I finished Cleopatra's Vendetta
by Avanti Centrae. My 4.52 rounded to 5 stars review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Centrae does a great job of world-building and makes the locations in the book come alive. She also adds cultural and historical aspects to the places and people making the reading experience an immersive one. What more could I ask for than intrigue, history, science, and mystery in an action thriller?
I finished Deep Sleep
by Steven Konkoly. My 4.5 rounded to 5 stars review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Steven Konkoly’s first book in the Devin Gray series is disconcerting, suspenseful, and action-packed. It has aspects of both political and military thrillers as well as a conspiracy thriller. Konkoly continues to bring great characters, entertaining story lines, and lots of action together in exhilarating novels. I’m looking forward to reading the next book soon.
The short story, Sweat, is from the American South. The acclaimed Harlem Renaissance writer, Zora Neale Hurston wrote wonderful, real dialogue. This is from 1926 - I loved it.
5★ My review of Sweat with links to the story online
I've been meaning to read Kent Haruf's much-loved Plainsong for years, and I'm glad I finally did. Wonderful people on the plains of Colorado. He wrote two more books about them, so I can see where they go.
4★ My review of Plainsong
I am currently reading "Why We Sleep" I recommend everyone read this book. Everyone should understand the importance of sleep and get a minimum of 7-8 hours of sleep every day.
I finished reading All the Dark Places
by Terri Parlato. My 3.98 rounded to 4 stars review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This debut novel is well crafted and hooked me in the first chapter.
It may not have won this year's GR Choice award for nonfiction, but it definitely merited being nominated.
An Immense World by Ed YongFor readers who like popular science books, this is a solid selection. For fans of comparative zoology, this is a must read.
My review -- https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
If it weren't for challenges, I might never have stumbled across this amazing story, just because I needed a UOusman Umar's memoir North to Paradise: My Journey Along the World's Most Dangerous Migrant Route, is unimagineable. It's amazing he survived his trek through Africa as a kid. Compelling story! (Lovely guy, too.)
4.5~5★ My review of North to Paradise
I read the classic
War and Remembrance by Herman WoukThis is one of the very few WW II novels I've read written by a Jewish WW II vet who also became a Pulitzer Prize winner. He was in the Navy, so there is a lot of authenticity in all of the naval parts.
My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished The Devil's Bidding
by P.L. Doss.My 3.84 rounded to 4 stars review:
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
P.L. Doss brings mystery, suspense, and realism to the third book in the Joplin/Halloran mystery series.
I finished reading A Noble Cunning: The Countess and the Tower
by Patricia Bernstein. My 3.19 rounded to 3 stars review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Patricia Bernstein brings to life the political and religious situation in Scotland and England. This novel is historical fiction set in the early 1700’s, but based on real events with names changed and fictional individuals added. Overall, the book was atmospheric and full of suspense. It is also very descriptive, which does a great job of giving readers a feeling of the time and place. However, it also slows the pace and adds to the instances of telling versus showing. Additionally, at the 95% point in the book, there is a fast jump in time with no transition.
I'm sure we've all been guilty of
Keeping Up Appearances
or worrying 'what will the neighbours think'. Aussie author Tricia Stringer gives us a group of older women in a small South Australian town who think they know all the town's secrets. HA! I can see why the author is so popular.
3.5★ My review of Keeping Up Appearances
