The Perks Of Being A Book Addict discussion
ARCHIVE Team Challenge: UNO 2022
>
Team The Restaurant at the End of the Universe
I usually read 2-3 books at once. Weird, I've been told. I just finished a book yesterday and two today. And now I have to wait until Tuesday for the UNO challenge! I am going to read just one book between now and then because I can't just save a book. See you all on Tuesday.
I'm trying to finish a book about how we look at history.
It is at times interesting but I put it aside for the start of a challenge last year so I think I'll be fine if I don't finish now. It gets a bit dry at times. I want to start another book though and I'm trying to stop myself.
Dänah wrote: "I usually read 2-3 books at once. Weird, I've been told. I just finished a book yesterday and two today. And now I have to wait until Tuesday for the UNO challenge! I am going to read just one book..."Not weird to me. I typically have 3 - 4 books that I am reading at a time. I pick them up and put them down depending on different factors. I've read this way since I was child.
I think it's because of my ADHD, but I really have no idea. I just know that when a book slows down or if I'm not in the right "mood" for it, I'll pick up another one. There are also days where I will need "light and fluffy" and others where I will need a general fiction read, and still others where I will need a sports romance.
As in - my husband and our son will be watching the US v Canada soccer game in a few hours so I will most likely begin craving a soccer or hockey read LOL
But, no, multi readers are not weird or odd. They exist. The number of books we read at any given time may vary, but we are real.
Actually - it would be a cool study to see what traits make up a multi reader to see if there are any core items that could point to a person being or becoming a multi reader.
I know my literature minor did NOT help curb my multi read tendency.
Challenge related stupid questions - I know we have our first "hand" and our reads are in one of our messages in this thread.
Once we have all completed those reads and closed out this hand, are we then issued another hand for this round?
Also, (because I need to go back through and read the rules again) our completion posts are to be posted on this thread, using the samples provided a few messages up (with the google doc for tracking next reads)?
And finally - rereads are allowed, but the reread needs to be six months or older, correct?
Thanks for letting me ask the stupid questions. I'm finishing up one team challenge that has a reread rule, but it's only a day or so vs months so I wanted to make sure I have the proper rules for the proper challenges.
Can't wait to start this one!

I am going to read..."I used to read 3-4 books at once when I realized I was not enjoying it much and I lowered it down to 2 books at a time which is more fun to me. I think it helps when you don't like one book and you can switch to another. But when both books are not good, then I guess I got very unlucky when I picked them up.
Insiyah wrote: "Edited the sheet accordingly :) Thanks Alyana, and if you have any more suggestions feel free to let us know!"Can we also add a column on our tracking ss where we can put the cover color for our books? Or we can just highlight the book title if it matches the colored covers?
@Maggie - I appreciate your insights. After being a young child bookworm, I dropped off reading in later school years, picked it up again as a young adult, then dropped it, then re-picked it up in my 30s. I made myself finish most books even if I wasn't enjoying them. After audiobooks started working for me in my 40s I continued to push myself to finish reads while doing one print and one audio at a time. Now in my late 40s, I am getting frustrated with some audio, knowing that I would probably love the print. So I've now discovered that I should quit an audio and switch to the print if desired. I've also decided if I hate the print book I've started, I now have permission to quit. 100 pages is a good marker for me. I'm glad my reading hobby continues to evolve as I've changed. I think I just need to give myself permission to change (for the better!).

All 15 of our hands for February have already been dealt. You can view that on our team SS. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/... I also posted all of our cards for the month by number in one of the first posts on the thread.
Follow the above examples for completion posts. Some people prefer to use a tracking sheet to keep track of what a books works for. If you use the tracking sheet use the shorter completion post. If you don't use the tracking sheet post the longer version of the completion post. Using the tracking sheet is optional. I've been on some teams where members can't use the tracking sheet based on the devices they have. SS works great on computers but not on phone or tablet.
Rereads need to be older than six months since you last read.
UNO starts in 6 and a half hours. I am very ready to pick up a new book. Uno starts in the middle of the night for me, so I wanted to wish everyone happy reading!

One confusion - So I am supposed to read Dark Matter right now.(Red 0 and reverse). Where is that shown on the sheet? How do we know what we're supposed to be reading at any week ? that info is not on the sheet(or I cant find it anywhere :P)
BookishlyWise wrote: "One confusion - So I am supposed to read Dark Matter right now.(Red 0 and reverse). Where is that shown on the sheet? How do we know what we're supposed to be reading at any week ? that info is not..."Ash, you will be the one to put in the sheet what you will read (preferably when you finish a book). It's up to you what and how you like to read your books as long as you read them during the challenge.
Annalisa and Insiyah might add more answers to your question :)
Ash - there's no specific order for when you need to finish reading your books, as long as you complete them by the end of the month. As the team completes books, Annalisa and I will update the Feb cards accordingly until all the hands are filled in. So feel free to read any book you want as long as it fits at least one UNO card, and fit in your red book when you can. The sheet is for members to keep track of the books they plan to read and how it fits with UNO cards. It is completely optional, and if you find it easier to keep track of your books on your own, go for it. Just make sure that when you post your completion post, you mention all the eligible cards.
The completion posts will start coming in sometime in the next few days, so if you want, you can wait until there are a few posts up; that may help give you a better idea.

Question - I started to listen to Possession in January but quit the audiobook to special order a print book to my library. It just now came in and it's huge. I am starting over with the book - this can count towards this challenge, correct?
My first thought is no, because you started the audiobook already, but then you are starting it completely over so I think maybe. I’ll ask in the captains chat to see what they think.
Colleen, my first instinct of No was correct. You started the audiobook before February 1 so even though you are starting all over again the six month rule still applies so it would not count.

Can you please just make sure if it is a completion post for the SS you make that clear like "Completion Post on SS" that way we can differentiate. Also, make sure to let us know if it works for a reverse or not.
For someone using the SS your completion post would look like this:

Edited my post with Completion post on SS. Should I still put reverse on completion post if it's also in the tracking ss?

I'm asking for that incase you miss someone having read it and they can catch it for you. In this case there is no need but in the future please do.

P.S. I think the Goodreads notifications are messed up again. :(

Yes, they definitely are - I just saw all of these messages and didn't get anything in my notifications

I'm off to a bad start - I'll need someone to cover my deficit. It will be about 2 weeks before I can start and finish this book (it's super long) so if we have some speedy readers who can cover a couple for me that would be VERY helpful. *I'm looking at you Alyana ;) !

I can more than likely cover a book or two for you. I lowered my number of books a lot this year so I could focus on books that take me longer to read. I can just hold off and read the last of the Ice Planet Barbarian series which is like book candy to me. (Also, I got called for jury duty so I expect some good reading time while I wait for them to send me home.)
I should be able to cover a book or so as well - I already have more books than I expected on my Feb TBR.

SS Updated
I'm reading this month, but I'm behind on my ARC reading for January. I was conservative about what I read per month when I signed up so I will be able to read the Green book I signed up for. I'm in a slump though and I'm looking for a book that appeals to me and will fit cards in our hands. I also have some reads from this month already that I'm back tracking to see if they will meet any of our requirements.
This week has sucked in real life. My son is struggling and is sick. We finally got the meeting we needed with his school, but we ran into push back. I've been fighting to change his school for weeks and it was finally approved yesterday for a transfer next week. As a household we are just struggling to get through day by day. It SUCKS. I'm taking the next two days to hide away and just read books.
Then I'm hitting restart on the month on Monday.
It's hard Maggie. sorry that you're having a time of struggle but it's getting better! my best wishes for you and the family!! and I also hope you find a book that takes your mind away to wonderful places :)
BookishlyWise wrote: "It's hard Maggie. sorry that you're having a time of struggle but it's getting better! my best wishes for you and the family!! and I also hope you find a book that takes your mind away to wonderful..."Thank you!! I have found a few. I'm just about done with one by Julia Wolf that I've essentially read in one sitting and yesterday I binge read a Pippa Grant book. Both have helped. I really hopeful that after next week, I can find my balance again and just relax.
The up side to today is that we had an ice storm and school was closed. My daughter was going through my book shelves looking for something and she uncovered my old Kasey Michaels paperbacks. I forgot I even owned those.
I may have found a Blue Cover that could also be a skip and it was a fun read that I haven't read in years. :-) That's my next read for today!
It also makes me feel like I'm contributing and helping and getting something done which helps with my overall mental state.
Even if it is just a fun challenge. :-)

So sorry to hear that Maggie. Hope you'll get over the slump and find the book that will make you happy. All my best wishes for you and the family.

I have some random other challenges I do, old books on the TBR list challenge and 12+4. Besides the Towers and Wheel, does anyone know of these similar reading group challenges? I like the teamwork when it's not too strict or particular/specific topics or with minimum reads like 10 books a month :). I know some people can do it - not me!
