Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Lexi, I just found another book hidden away on a shelf that would work if the word doesn't have to be in the context of an address.
Take My Place Take My Place by Beate Boeker

It's a reread from 2012 so I'd rather read Ash Road but will read whatever we need.

Ash road works great, word count is fine so you can go ahead with that one.

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Excellent. Thanks.

message 205: by Jax (new)

Jax (jaxn) | 102 comments Finished Furyborn which was a surprisingly good YA fantasy. A little too much romance for my tastes but if you like magic this might be one to check out.

And last night I finished The Nothing Man. And then I checked all the door and windows. It was a really good serial killer thriller.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 570 comments I've read lost city of monkey God so it works for reverse. Home but exhausted. Finished a couple books including Interference. Will update sheet tomorrow.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 570 comments New Witch on the Block: A Paranormal Women's Fiction Novel would this work?

Or Love in Catalina Cove?

Ended up with a long plane delay and insomnia so got a lot of reading done on my trip.

Ella Wilson (readsbyella) | 49 comments Hi everyone,

I know that there is still a while before March. I was just wondering when do we start to plan for March and the books we hope to read and when we get our set of cards for March.

Nothing like being stuck waiting for a flight! You need lots of books with you when travelling.

Mary, Lexi checked it out so I've begun reading Ash Road to fit the 'address' slot. No doubt your reads will have furniture or ornaments in them somewhere to fill a gap.

We seem to be going pretty well, Team Pemberley!

message 210: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 736 comments Mary, glad you got some reading in and hope you get some rest now that you are home.

Ella, we should get the card for March in the next few days or so since we have 8 days left this month.

Also, we have about a week left. If anyone won't finish a book please remove it from the mini or color card so we know what needs to be filled. Thanks

The Eyre Affair
The Eyre Affair (Thursday Next, #1) by Jasper Fforde

What a hoot of book. I really enjoyed this, great fun. Loved all the craziness and the fast paced underlying thriller of a plot. Oh for a world where books and literature can cause protest marches and riots and people earnestly discuss who is the real writer of Shakespeare's works the way people nowadays argue about the makeup of some sports team.

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Lexi, I'll be able to read at least another short book this week after Ash Road. I have an outback romance which is about doctors in a medical centre which would fill a small town gap. Looks as though we need two there.
Wedding At Sunday Creek

Ella Wilson (readsbyella) | 49 comments I had to remove King of Scars as I don't think I would be able to finish it in time. This means that we now need a new book to fill in the 'must include a compass point within the text' section on the mini.

I was wondering if someone would be able to please fill that slot in. I'm sorry that I had to remove it but I just don't have the time to get through it. I do however believe I'll be able to finish It's In His Kiss as I am really focusing on it and Addie LaRue at the moment.

I got it covered. Moved Firekeeper's Daughter there and started The Windsor Knot which should fill the spot vacated by Firekeeper.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 570 comments I put Dearie into task 32. It's bio about Julie Childs who lived until age 92 with a still active career that she loved and she had 48 years with the love of her life. Also she survived breast cancer.

I think that qualifies as a happy ending.

I will not be offended if it gets replaced with something else.

I also filled in task 16.

Ash Road
Wow, what a terrific read! Even though it's aimed at younger readers it's a gripping and evocative depiction of a raging, out of control bushfire and the rural farming people living in its way. The focus is on the children left to fend for themselves for varying reasons and who learn what it is to grow up very quickly in the face of extreme danger.

What a life she had!

If it doesn't qualify for the happy ending I can easily read another M&B romance, have a few about the place--happy endings guaranteed there.

Jax (jaxn) | 102 comments Finished Firekeeper's Daughter over the weekend and it was surprisingly good. Slow start for me, but a good YA mystery.

The Windsor Knot also had a fair amount of errand running so listened to this one since it's been floating around on my tbr forever. It was charming if you like cozy mysteries.

Ella Wilson (readsbyella) | 49 comments Is it okay if I make a new spreadsheet thing where I can put some of the books I hope to read next month? others can add their hopefuls as well.

message 225: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 736 comments Ella, thank you for the good idea. The spreadsheet is now set up for March, and I moved your books over.

We should know our cards, including color cards sometime tomorrow

message 226: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 736 comments Even as we prepare for March, we still need 21 books if we are going to finish the Feb cards. I'll get the four I claimed but not more most likely.

Lexi | 736 comments Alina, Shannon and Jen, please come say hi, as it has been over a week since we have heard from you. Thank you

Shannon and Alina, how many of the books you have on the SS do you think you will get to, esp Shannon for your color cover book?

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Lexi I was having a look at the spreadsheets to see where we might have gaps to fill but can't see where you've used Ash Road although you've ticked it off as used.

I've read my designated books so can now fill any gaps. Any idea what we might be short of in the regular list?

message 230: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 736 comments Elisabeth, good catch, I've added it to the SS.

We mostly need books. Cards 1-5 are mostly left, as I tend to fill the higher letters first, but I can move things around.

message 231: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Thanks Lexi.
I've added another book and can possibly manage two if necessary.
Don't forget to add Ash Road to the Mini SS for an address title :)

message 232: by L (new)

L (alinaisreading) I finished The Merciful Crow earlier today, and although I didn't hate the writing, I found the book to be quite boring and it felt as if it was dragging on. 3.25/5

I've removed People We Meet on Vacation as I doubt I can finish it, but I should be able to finish the other two books for the mini. I'm also around 100 pages in both The Gilded Wolves and Ace of Spades so I'll see if I can finish one of those two after my books for the mini.
I hope everyone's having a great day so far :)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 570 comments I'll go on a short cozy/romance spree. I get a lot of audio book time at my office this time of year. Also my husband is working all weekend.

message 236: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 736 comments Thank you for sharing that, Ella.
Only change is that we have 5 Draw 2's next month (not 2). That means we will need to read 102, as versus 89 this month. The number of cards goes up each month.

Lots of colored cards to plan, esp blue and green, if anyone wants to ask on color covers or has any suggestions for other team members to read.

message 237: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 570 comments I'm going to read this for another challenge. Looks green to me but tin eye says it's blue. I think I have an issue judging green/blue because I always see green when other people see blue in real life.

I'm having trouble with the spreadsheet at the moment. It stopped letting me update it, so I closed it out and now I can't get it open again. I'll try again in a bit.

The Kiss Quotient (The Kiss Quotient, #1) by Helen Hoang

message 238: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 736 comments Mary, I hope the spreadsheet starts working for you. I see that cover as blue, but I can ask the captain group if you want. (I tend to see blue where others see green).

message 239: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 570 comments It's working now. Tin Eye says 82% blue.

message 241: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 570 comments I added 3 shorter books for Feb that work for some 0-5 cards.

Also, I've read A Justified Murder that someone has on the sheet. If that helps with moving books around.

message 242: by Jax (last edited Feb 23, 2022 09:06AM) (new)

Jax (jaxn) | 102 comments For February I added The Code Breaker which I'm halfway through. I can easily drag it into March if we have enough books for this month. (It might also be a blue 4 or 5 if we need it)

I also added three books that would fit for the color covers in March. Can someone just confirm that they meet the requirements?

message 243: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 570 comments I could read The Kiss Quotient or This Pen For Hire this week if needed for a wild card. If Shannon won't be able to finish.

Jax,

All the Light is fine, Cloud Cuckoo is only 1/3 blue and there was no link for Watching the English so I don't know what cover version you want to read.

If it is this version - Watching the English The Hidden Rules of English Behaviour by Kate Fox , it is good for green

message 246: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments I was planning to read The Mirror & the Light (Thomas Cromwell, #3) by Hilary Mantel which surprisingly TinEye says is green. I'll flip through and see if it fits any Green cards first because it's a long book and won't be a quick read.

Got it thanks. I figured out how to use tineye and it says that The Code Breaker isn't blue. I'm looking at it and it's very blue so I'll leave it to you on that one.

That is the cover I plan to use for Watching the English so consider that covered.

I'm on the wait list for Station Eleven which I notice you have on the list for that might fill a wild card. Also I realized that I have A Place to Hang the Moon by Kate Albus for green 9 (assuming the library comes through)

message 248: by Ella (new)

Ella Wilson (readsbyella) | 49 comments I am happy to cover any coloured cards with the books I've already listed I don't know f any fit but I think some could. I know Ugly Love would have worked for blue 6 as it's set in San Fransico but that is already covered. I am unsure if any of my other books will work for a coloured card.

message 249: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 736 comments Ella, I checked yours and I think two of your covers work for Blue and I have you down for 2 Wild Draw4 (the Blue 1 and 6). On second thought, I decided my book wasn't blue enough.

Jax, Code Breaker is blue. Tin eye is great for percent but not color labels, so I use it to see if a book cover crosses 50% but not necessarily for the color itself. I decided Station Eleven had too much blue and black together to be blue so putting Ella's book there instead. Hope that helps.
