Oh, I'm curious to hear what you think of it! I was not for me.

So far my favourite read for this year's UNO has been Things We Lost to the Water. I'm so glad I picked it up. It had some significantly weaker parts but I really enjoyed the overall atmosphere and Nguyen's writing style.

Sorry, Karolyn, the other Captains are saying that it's not an interior room. So, that book won't work for that task.

Yes, second this. Also, if we end up with all the books claimed and you read a book in the remaining nine days that could be used somewhere, please put it in the overflow section. Which is at the very bottom of the Feb tab. Same deal, but instead of claiming a specific card, just put the book name, card options, and date read.

I'll ask. Seems more interior-y to me. But I'll check in with the captains.

message 207: by Sara (new)

Sara Hollingsworth | 643 comments Just got confirmation that Magpie Lane would work for that task.

Are you thinking for the “small town” mini Angela? Between the tree and the stream/lake I would think it fits what I’d want in my rural village getaway 😄

Karolyn | 271 comments Are there any books that anyone is worried about finishing? Im trying to decide what to read next and will look for a reverse. But curious if there is anything else to look for - especially color cards.

Happy Uno!

Everything at the moment is claimed at the moment, so feel free to read whatever you like. Especially stuff that might fit mini tasks. But it also wouldn't hurt to have a backup for 0 Blue and 5 Red.

How are those going by the way, Angela, Courtney? Do you think you'll finish in time, or should we be reading back ups just in case?

message 219: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments I will be done with mine by next Monday. :) I started my colored card last night.

message 220: by Narsku (new)

Narsku (goodreadscomnarsku) | 118 comments We have almost all the mini tasks, too! :)

What does the "Every aspect can be used only once" RE: the B track tasks mean? I read a book that was (partially) set in a village but figured I can't use it since we already had a book where the location "aspect" has been used. Am I interpreting this too strictly? Does it just mean we can't use the same small town twice - e.g. you could have St. Mary Mead only once despite binge reading the series in February?

message 221: by Sara (new)

That is a good question! We should check in on this, since I think we've already used twice the idea of the book being set in a small town. So, we should figure out if that's okay or not, and if not then we need to change one of our books and reasons out. I think though that this task wants us to get really creative. So like, maybe not just that it's in a small town, but maybe there's a scene set in a small town cafe. That cafe could be used as a reason. Or if there's a scene set through a small park, or has a parade or I don't know. Small town things. I think it can be pretty small things as long as it's in the book.

message 222: by Sara (new)

Sara Hollingsworth | 643 comments Also, Kylie, could you not resolve the comments that I made on the sheet, please? Especially if they're in the captain's section.

message 223: by Sara (new)

Sara Hollingsworth | 643 comments Okay, so here was what I was told when I asked:

"Sara, if you already used a book for the specific task that it is "set in a small town/village" (which is totally acceptable BTW), you cannot use another book for setting again.

But if another book has a similar setting, try to look for something else
- does someone go to church/is there a vicar/a butcher/policeman?
-is there a post office/shop/school/bakery mentioned? etc."

message 224: by Sara (new)

Sara Hollingsworth | 643 comments So, I'm thinking we need to change Andy's two entries on the mini because we've already used the setting of a small town as a reason for Kylie. And I don't think a persistent feeling of wanting to return works either. I think we need a specific small town thing, like some of the examples used above.

message 225: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 4431 comments Hello Sara, Team Manderley,

Just dropped by to clear another thing: the books you use for the B tasks don't necessarily need to be set in a small town (apart from the one you used for the setting specifically) as long as you find something that can be connected to life in a small town, like the ecamples mentioned above. Dare to be creative! :)

message 226: by Karolyn (new)

Karolyn | 271 comments I added no cell service. For me no cell phone / internet would be a dream come true 😄 But if that sounds like purgatory to the rest of the team I can change it.

Haha, I think I could live without both personally. As long as I had a library of books and a bookstore to shop in, I'd be a happy camper.

message 228: by Karolyn (new)

Karolyn | 271 comments I mean… everyone in the town disappears and no cell service. Think about how much reading we could get done!!

Do we know when we’ll get our hands for March?

hope it works but if not, we might need to find something else for these

The pub one works perfectly! I'm not so sure about the other one. What do you think, Narsku? Do you think the reason on B39 works?

message 232: by Sara (last edited Feb 23, 2022 04:39PM) (new)

Sara Hollingsworth | 643 comments Also, -drum roll- the March cards are out! I've put the March hands into the spreadsheet.

Our colored colors for March are:
2 Red
4 Red
5 Red
5 Yellow
8 Yellow
8 Yellow
1 Green
4 Green
9 Green
8 Blue

I've claimed the Red 2 and a Yellow 8, the rest are all up for grabs. Feel free to start claiming!

message 233: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments I can take the 8 blue and can look for another color if they do not fill up.

message 234: by Karolyn (new)

Karolyn | 271 comments I was able to grab one of the 8 Yellows and will look for others after work. It also looks like 1 Green is missing from the list on the right of the page (and I don't want to edit the file :) )

Are we able to start reading for March before March 1 or do we need to wait on the countdown to start?

message 235: by Kylie (new)

Oh, whoops! Must have missed a card. I'll fix that.

And yes, you can start reading for March now. As long as it was started during uno, and you finish in March, the book counts for March.

I read The Searcher. So it'd work for reverse too. And I've got Inheritance from the Eragon series if no one else can come up with anything or you don't get from the library in time. You could always claim it tentatively and we could fall to my backup or someone else.

message 240: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments My library has The Searcher. Should I do it? I am ashamed to admit that I have never read a Tana French book before.

I really enjoy Tana French. My library told me it will probably be 9 weeks, so if you want to give it a shot - go for it. I’ll still read it when I can get a copy… but probably not this month.

Sara Hollingsworth | 643 comments Angela wrote: "My library has The Searcher. Should I do it? I am ashamed to admit that I have never read a Tana French book before."

I'd say give it a shot. I didn't like The Searcher as much as some of her other works. But my mom loved it. So you should give it a chance and see what you think!

I think it works for Green 9! Since the location is Needless Street. That or Green 1 since one of the characters is named Olivia.
