He nods, "I'm okay, thank you." He says after a moment. He looked at her. "Are you okay?"

She looks down, his politeness hurting her, as she tries to ignore it. "Of course, I'm fine, I'm great really," if he wanted to be all wall-y then she would too.
"That's good." He said, nodding, his heart hurting a little. There was something off with him and he didn't know what exactly it was.
She decides to keep it strictly business, confused. He told her he wanted to try again, yet he won't even really talk to her. She names off a few aesthetics she wanted and quotes and looks at the time, and says, "Oh, it's been an hour and fifteen, you better go."
He looked at her, really good, before nodding and standing up. He grabbed his wallet and pulled out a ten dollar bill. "For my half." He said, he knew it was probably more than enough, but hey things were expensive now a days. He pulled out a pen and wrote his number on a napkin and handed it to her and smiled a little. A private smile. "See you later," he said before walking out.
She sat there for a few more minutes, thinking. For her, thinking was always dangerous, but it wasn't negative this time. She was happy albeit a little worried about him. She shakes her head at his money and pays the bill, leaving his money for the tip. She noticed the difference in his smile and was happy. Confused but happy.
Liam got into his car and started it. He was running super late. He buckled his seat belt and pulled out the parking lot. He drove slightly over the limit and somehow made it there on time.
She called Lillian, as she had gotten to school by her and well Liam left her without a ride. "Hey Lillian. I've got news. Can you pick me up from the little cafe on the corner of Main? Thanks."
Lillian was there five minutes later. She hopped out her car(bc obviously) and went inside to see where Skylar was. "Hey, sweetie!"
She smiles. "Hey, mum." She had been calling her mum for awhile now, knowing that Lillian didn't mind. "I was just here with Liam,"
"Oh?" She said, not knowing if this was a good thing or a bad thing.
She shakes her head in exasperation, "Yeah, our teacher, she paired us up together. I swear it was on purpose. He said he wanted to try again. He said that he wanted to go on dates and take it slower. And we're in here and he barely looks at me." She sighs, I miss him. But I don't want to lose myself again. He's like a drug to me and," she sighs, "like, I don't know how to describe it. He was doing the whole polite thing again." She looks down into her hands, not knowing what to do or how to feel.
"Skylar, okay, just remember to take care of yourself before him, okay? As much as you miss him, you are your number one priority." She started, "As for him being all polite and stuff, maybe he means like really slow. You know like friends to a date and on and on." She suggested.
"I know. I know. It's just weird. It feels off." Skylar says, unsure.
"It's the first time you two have talked for a month, right? So it's natural after what happened for it to feel a little weird," she said.
She smiles, laughing at how everything Lillian said made sense. "Yeah, yeah, you're right. I'm just overthinking."
Lillian smiled, happy to hear her laugh, "It's okay, are you ready to go?" She asked.
"Yeah," she says, smiling down at the ten dollar tip. "Let's go."
Lillian stood up and brushed herself off. "Do you want to go back to your room or should we go shopping or something?" She asked, not really wanting to go back to her house. Things were getting a little rocky between her and Jackson. They were getting into more fights. Jackson didn't like how much money was being used to keep Skylar booked in her hotel, but Lillian demanded they kept paying for it.
Skylar smiles brightly, "We can do whatever you want, I don't really want to go back there yet." She could tell something else was going on, but didn't want to pry.
"So tell me more about this project?" She asked as they both got into her car and started driving.
"It's over this book we read in English. I got excused from the other project because Miss Anglemyer was right there watching me fall apart. My grade in her class has slipped to a B and she knows how much I like having straight A's so she told she would find me a partner and we could both have extra credit. I think she had ulterior motives though, considering she knew and she picked Liam still."
Lillian laughed, "I think Miss Anglemyer knew things ended wrongly and wanted to help. And hey, she might be one of those teachers who uhm what's the word?" She thought for a moment, "Uh ships? I think that's it. She might be one of those teachers who ships her students."
"I bet she is. I can't imagine she would want to torture us," she says laughing.
Lillian laughed again as they were pulling into the parking lot.
Skylar felt like things were finally lining up in her life. She was independent, strong, eating and accepting of her place in life, no longer "wanting pity" as Liam had said. He had changed her, so maybe it was a good thing they had broken up? Her heart pounded as she thought about him. She looked at Lillian, "ooo what's this?"
"I found this cute little place on Facebook." She said as she was getting out the car. "I think you can pick out your toppings and then they crush it up and make ice cream with it but in these little rolls."
She smiles, her blinding, Liam smile. "That's so cool!" she says, happy for her hard work that got her to the place where she could be normal and eat ice cream when she wanted to.
"I know right! I thought we could check it out." Lillian smiled, proud of Skylar. She could tell Skylar wasn't fighting her anorexia anymore and she was so proud of her growth.
She smiles brightly at Lillian. "You're so awesome," she said.
"Anything for you, my sweet girl." She said, smiling just as bright. They walked into the parlor. Lillian order a strawberry and cream one.
Skylar ordered an Oreo one and got out her wallet, wanting to pay Lillian back for everything that she's done.
"Put that away." Lillian said, handing the clerk her credit card.
She looks at Lillian and says, "But-"
"It's okay, sweetie." She says as the clerk handed her the card back. "Let's go watch them make our ice creams, huh?"
She nods and follows Lillian.
They watch as the man makes their ice creams. He starts by taking the topping and crushing it up, then he pours the ice cream base on top and mixes it up. Then he spreads it out evenly and rolls the ice creams. When he is finished rolling the ice cream he puts them in a cup and hands it to them.
Skylar smiles at the man and says, "Thank you, it looks amazing!"
Lillian thanks the man and smiles at Skylar. They go sit down in one of the booths. "This is so pretty!" Lillian said.
"I can't believe I've never been here before. It's so beautiful."
She pulls out her phone and says, "One second." to Lillian. She takes a picture and sends it to Liam, reinputting his number into her phone. She types out, "first date?"

Lillian smiles, not having to ask who she sent that to. Liam had just finished practice and was in his car. He felt himself smile like a big ol' dummy at her text. He typed back, I'm in figuring that sounded chill. Right before he sent it though he added a smiley face. :) He hit send and threw the phone on the passenger seat.
Her phone buzzes and she checked it, getting a stupid grin on her face. I'm happy :) she decides to send, trying to extend the peace by saying what she thought first.
Lillian giggles a little, loving seeing her smile like that.Liam grabbed his phone back when he heard it buzz. He smiled even bigger and texted back, I'm happy too. :) He hit send before he over thought it too much.
She looks at Lillian with the same look on her face.
Okay, see you tomorrow at school. she sends, trying to not second guess herself, Just thought this place was cute.

Lillian starts to eat her ice cream, still smiling.See you tomorrow, Skylar. He texted back, he hit send and put the phone on silent. He pulled out the parking lot and drove back to his house.
She smiled, hoping that he liked her idea and wasn't just saying so. Skylar puts her phone back away and silences it, knowing he won't text her again. She heard Lillian giggle and saw her smiles and said, "Yeah, yeah, I know.. you know."
She clapped her hands excitedly, "I'm so excited for you, sweetie, you deserve everything and more."
She still has her "Liam smile" on. "Thank you Lillian," she says getting emotional about Liam for the first time in weeks.
"What is it, sweetheart?" Lillian asked, seeing her tear up.
Skylar looks embarrassed. "I don't know. I think some part of me needed him to be like I'm happy too. He even put a smiley face and it just, I don't know. It just made me miss him more."
