Wayland,

The books im reading at the moment, some of the characters can make 'gates' that allow people to go from one place to another (Kind of feels like Stargate) would that count as teleporting?

Sure

For Risa/No Weapons Allowed, does the "put the gun down or your girlfriend gets it" scenario count?

I'd say that's kind of stretching it, but if you're really stuck, go for it.

I'll wait and see if something more definite comes along.

Are you thinking more of a "leave your weapons at the door" policy?

Yeah. That, the old west "No guns in town," anything along those lines.

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 800 comments I need a wee bit assistance for Ultraverse summer bonus: "Don’t Pull On My Hair!- read a book where someone has a huge overreaction to something, where at least one city block is destroyed, or with someone in pigtails on the cover."
I am reading The Shadow of the Gods. Will it fit?
If not, can anyone confirm or deny if The City & the City has city destruction in it you think would fit? Or any other good ideas?

Thanks :)

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 3544 comments Mod
I used Pippi Longstocking for that with Sanderson's Reckoners as a backup.

message 109: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 800 comments Thanks :) I'm a Danish children's librarian (and Astrid Lindgren is the godmother of children's lit in Scandinavia) so Pippi Longstocking would be a rererererererererereread, so saving that for a last desperate moment ;) Going to have a look at Reckoners.

message 110: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 800 comments And you reckon Reckoners fit ;) ?
I haven't read it and it's available at my library.

message 111: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 800 comments Oh looks like a lot of city destruction will be going on in that one. Thanks :)

LOL. It's been a while since I read Reckoners, but I remember a lot of city destruction.

I’ve downloaded the audiobook, I have a relatively long train ride this week and I like to listen with my headphones on.

message 116: by Nadja (new)

Nadja | 232 comments I am really struggeling with this months villain. Does anyone has a recommendation for this prompt?

Born to Follow- read a book where someone is clearly not cut out to be a leader, with a particularly stupid character, or with some kind of a follower on the cover.

Thanks ^^

Shawnie | 3285 comments Mod
I found "particularly stupid character" fairly easy to identify in books I was reading. Don't you want to strangle the idiots for making bad decisions, doing stupid things? It happens in many books. I went with that.

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 3544 comments Mod
The Ocean at the End of the Lane had a pretty stupid character.

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 800 comments Wayland: question for Ultraverse ElectroCute, Shocking. I just read Arlo Finch and an important magical thing they do is called thunderclap, where they make a booming thunder Sound with their hands. Is that too far fetched to fit?

I have a question for Sludge / Down in the Sewers

I was wondering if I could put The Count of Monte Cristo since for a while, he was travelling in tunnel he dug between two cells of his prison.

Fannie wrote: "Hello,

I don't think that works. It's a tunnel, not any kind of sewer, and I recall it being a really brief part of the book and not on the cover. It is a fantastic book though.

message 126: by Fannie (new)

Fannie D'Ascola | 609 comments That's what I thought but I was tryig to find something to fit this 1200 pages book. :)

And yes, it was fantastic!

Les Miserables and The False Prince have sewer scenes. (One is much shorter than the other.)

Shawnie | 3285 comments Mod
Enclave has many sewer scenes, is around 275 pages, and I enjoyed it when I read it 10 years ago.

message 129: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 800 comments I read Evernight by Ross Mackenzie if you’re in the mood for some great childrens book magic. A large part of the book take place in sewers.

Vinca Russell (vinxlady) | 1572 comments Hi guys, I'm struggling to hit my last October bonus read - had a book lined up but the first few pages are just awful and I really can't bring myself to read the rest of it 😂

Any suggestions for this one?
Summoned- Read a book where a creature is summoned by some kind of ritual, where someone is raised away from others of their kind, or with some kind of ritual or magic circle on the cover.

Lel (lelspear) | 2430 comments Mod
I read The Summoning it wasn’t the best book but wasn’t the worst either

message 133: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 800 comments The Novice is quite good and has demon summoning as a key element.

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 800 comments For Codename: Firearm Special Forces: Does it have to be a modern interpretation of elite soldiers? I just finished Shadow of the Gods and there were quite a few highly trained fighters / soldiers on special missions.

Any ideas for Vulcan/Surak? (Read a book where a pacifist is important to the story, where someone tries hard to change an entire culture, or with a revolutionary of some kind on the cover.)

I can do a Powder Mage book but was hoping for something shorter.
