Robin P | 5775 comments I didn't realize I was reading back to back two books with the same theme. While The Midnight Library is the simpler, greeting-card version, Recursion is the noir, Twilight Zone take on time, memory, and choices. In this book, the author tries to give a somewhat scientific explanation, which didn't mean anything to me. I am still not sure if I understood why it was so hard for the main characters to "fix" the problem. I also have seen too many times the trope of the only 2 people understanding what is happening being a woman and a man, who fall in love and promise they will find each other anywhere in time.

It turns out both books have the same moral at the end - I don't think it's a spoiler to tell you that no life is perfect, life contains both happiness and sadness. This was a fast and engaging read, more so for me than The Midnight Library, and much less predictable.
