Rachel B (rachel36) | 54 comments I'd like recommendations for *clean* science fiction (no sex or anything close to it, and preferably little-to-no violence and profanity).

I don't enjoy alien/space themes. Not interested in romance, either.

I especially like when characters have special powers (invisibility, mind reading, time travel, etc.)

Thanks in advance!

SamSpayedPI | 2306 comments Are you sure you don't mean paranormal, not science fiction? "Powers" tend to be in paranormal books. Powers are only "science fiction" if created by science, either on purpose (Captain America) or accidentally (The Hulk; Spiderman).

Rachel B (rachel36) | 54 comments I was thinking more SciFi - clones, experiments gone wrong, X-Men lol, etc.

When I hear "paranormal" I think vampires and witches or angels and demons, and I'm not interested in that.

Rouan | 139 comments You might like Zenna Henderson's People series. The first one is:

Pilgrimage: The Book of the People

Huh. I wouldn't consider X-Men to be science fiction, since their powers are caused by natural mutations; they aren't creations of science. To a certain extent, anyway. Wolverine's adamantium frame would be science fiction, or Cyclops' goggles, but not their underlying powers.

Rachel B (rachel36) | 54 comments Lol... Sorry, I don't actually know much about the genre. I just group special powers together and call it SciFi, and like reading about it. 😉

Eric Bruce | 235 comments You must cringe at some of the replies you've had . Selectively , some of Dean Koontz ' novels might appeal to you .

I've never read anything by him before, but I might check out the Odd Thomas series. Thanks for the recommendation!

I hate to be so argumentative, but if you really want little-to-no violence, Odd Thomas is probably not the best choice.

I don't think that's argumentative, lol. I appreciate helpful information!

Gillian Wiseman (gillianwiseman) | 241 comments I know you said no outer space type SF, but Becky Chambers' books meet just about all your other requirements; The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet being the first in her loosely connected series.

message 18: by Gillian (new)

Gillian Wiseman (gillianwiseman) | 241 comments Another author to try would be Isaac Asimov, especially the "Robot" series; they're older, so very clean, and they're about robots, mostly on earth, some in space around earth, and there are no superpowers, but a lot of good adventure.

Rachel B (rachel36) | 54 comments Thanks for the recommendations, Gillian, I'll check them out.

And thanks, bookel, for the lists. Brings me back to my childhood!
